We live in California and have considered taking one of the west coast DCL cruises. Ia it worth the money over the other cruise lines? It is rather expensive for the west coast. Even my travel agent was trying to persuade me to take another line. The thing is that we have a 1 and a half year old and he loves disney. Please help with advice. Thanks

Hi, I also live in California and am taking the cruise and yes, it is expensive. We have one daughter who is 5. I personally would wait to invest the money in a Disney Cruise if she was only 1 and 1/2 yrs old. They aren't even allowed in the pool unless they are potty trained and the nursery for that age you have to pay extra for and make reservations once you board. Also, chances are, she/he would not even remember it. Don't worry, the Disney magic doesn't wear off in the next few years...it just gets better!:flower:

At this point, the west coast cruises are going to be *very* expensive (I checked the other day, and for me DH & DD (22 months), it would cost the same for a cat 10 (inside cabin) as we paid 18 months ago for a Cat 6, veranda cabin). It would almost be cheeper to fly to the east coast & take one of the fall carribean cruises (Sepember is pretty inexpensive).

That being said, if you have your heart set on going on one, I'd look at the prices for the 6 day cruise leaving on 7/17 or 7/18, since it *might* be less expensive than the other west coast cruises.

Another west coaster here - We were thinking about it as well, - But, it turned out it was cheaper for us to do it out of Florida, and that includes airfare as well! (we wouldn't need airfare in CA) - We also thought we would much rather do the carribean ports rather than the Mexican ports - Nothing against Mexico - Cabo San Lucas is one of our favorite places. We could just do it cheaper to fly down there, stay at a 5 star, and it would still be cheaper -

Maybe if they bring a ship out here permanetly (sp?) - We would probably do it then -

you can definitely get a cheaper rate on another cruise line, going down to mexico! and if you're not too crazy about disney...forget it! as for excurison, they probably do similar things anyways!

but as for us, we figured it was a great opportunity...since our DSs loved it when we sailed from florida.

i think you just have to look at your options & priorities and decide what you really want...when we went, our youngest was 2, and he does remember! we look at the scrapbook often, watch the movie that my DH made of all our pix, and the little autograph/picture book that our DSs carried with them.

now, i'm hoping that they would have a 3rd ship soon, and just have dcl sail out of the west coast permanently! that would be great! :flower:

Thanks, my husband is totally against it, since we could almost pay to fly to japan and go to Disneyland there for the same price. Plus, we are already going to Disneyworld in October, so I appreciate the input. It makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one that thinks we should wait. Hopefully they will bring a ship out here so we can experience it in Mexico at a later time.

a DCL rep told me yesterday that we should see a ship permanently placed in CA in about 5-7 years.

We are a family of 4 and thru costco we were able to get Disney for cheaper than Carnival because Disney doesn't charge for our 1 year old daughter.
