Cruising the Dream on our 1st cruise ever!!! (5 Night Double Dip)

Thank you so much :goodvibes

Oh yes, they didn't use to, but there is now a 12 seat van that goes between Jambo House and Kidani Village. You can walk also, it takes about 10 minutes. And, all the park buses start at Kidani first and then pick up Jambo House guests, and if you're at Jambo House the DTD bus goes to Kidani. There are numerous ways to get between the two.

Those CMs were so wonderful! The reason I even thought to ask is because they were so helpful with Alison's situations that I hoped something could be worked out. It would have been heartbreaking to loose all those points.

I appreciate your complements :) I was trying to figure out all the settings the whole trip.

That 12 seat van is only to go back and forth between Jambo and Kidani correct? So I imagine it's running all the time? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make sure I get all the info I can before we stay there. :goodvibes

No problem at all, I am in love with the place and have been trying to learn everything I can also. Yes, just between Jambo and Kidani. It's running all the time, sometimes a 10 minute wait for the next one, so you could get to the resort you're trying to within the time you're waiting. Please ask any questions you need :)

We also have a thread dedicated to AKV that you're more than welcome to join. Lots of wonderful people who have been to AKL and AKV many many times. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2871510

After thoroughly enjoying the butterfly garden we headed towards Norway, more specifically to Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe. I had read the School Bread was fabulous and wanted to try it for myself.

Of course I couldn't resist taking a few pictures along the way.

these floating flower pots were so pretty.

another palm

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121222.jpg

I had been trying to take a good picture of these little beauties, so was glad to find a nice patch of them.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121223.jpg

this plant was so wild looking, the picture really doesn't do it justice.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121224.jpg

I've read that the gardeners get up on the roof and cut the grass by hand since they don't have a goat to do the duty.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121225.jpg

Since I had never actually noticed the Kringla Bakeri we had to find it, and it's across the way from Akershus Hall. A tiny little place, but full of wonderful goodies.

We choose the sweet pretzel

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121226.jpg

and of course the long awaited School Bread.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121227.jpg

We didn't eat our treats immediately, we saved them until we made it to the America GardensTheater. We were only a few minutes before the show, but it wasn't packed so were still able to get perfect seats. The sweet pretzel was a little disappointing because it was quite dry, but the School Bread was heavenly and absolutely on the favorite treat at WDW list. It was super soft and had some sort of delicious frosting like cream inside, and the top was coated in coconut. Yummy!!! I did get quite a headache from all the sugar but it was very worth it and I will definitely have more in the future.

The concert started soon after we finished our treats and was fabulous, I'm so glad we went. It was on the short side, only about 30 minutes, but I think they do different songs at each of the concerts during the day.

The lady in the background sang backup and lead in a few songs, she was awesome! I hate to say it, but almost better than the guys.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121234.jpg

They had a booth back in America with cds and t-shirts. And these fabulous topiaries. It took me ages to get one without kids in front, and somehow I missed the kid in the back.

Then we wandered through the bonsai garden in Japan. These were all so impressive.

This duck couple was so cute. They have this pool and waterfall near the Katsura Grill, which I had never seen before, and the ducks came out and walked around the tables outside looking for food. I'm sure they have gotten very used to people.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121260.jpg

The next thing on the agenda was to get to MK to go to Pecos Bill for dinner and to see the Main Street Electrical Parade which started at 9pm so we made our way out of Epcot and took the Monorail to MK. My feet were hurting so bad at this point, and it was surprising because the only time on the cruise my feet hurt was on CC day 1 when we did that long walk to the observation tower. I quickly realized that although I truly love the parks, the cruise was even more fabulous because we didn't get tuckered out.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121266.jpg

It was dark by the time we got to MK, and since my feet were hurting we decided to take the train to Frontierland which was a fabulous idea. The only thing was a lot of other people had the same idea and we had to wait for a second train to come. We had some fun with some other people waiting, we had gone through the turnstiles and were stuck. I'm sure we could have gotten out if we wanted to but it wasn't that big of a deal to wait. I think we could have walked to Frontierland in the time it took for the train to come back...

This is one of the times I failed to get food pictures, but we each had a taco salad. Pecos Bill has become one of our favorite CS choices at WDW so we were looking forward to this meal. They have a fabulous toppings bar with mushrooms, grilled onions, nacho cheese, along with the usual choices. The place was packed because it was on the parade route. We spied a table where a couple was just sitting and not eating, and since we had just left the cruise where we had been sitting with strangers all the time we asked the couple if we could sit with them. They didn't seem to mind, and we had a nice chat while waiting for the parade to come through.

I usually don't like parades but I had heard such good things about this one I had to see it for myself. We would probably have headed for the resort because we were both pretty tired, but this was the only evening we would be able to see it because we had dinner reservations the next two nights. I'm so glad we went, it was beautiful and lots of fun. I will definitely go out of my way to see this parade again. Unfortunately I failed on the picture front, but if you havne't seen this parade and you have the chance to, go. Mom had her birthday button on all week and Pete, on top of his dragon, waved to mom and yelled Happy Birthday! I think I teared up a little. The CMs are just so fabulous. :goodvibes

were the Pixar topiaries in Japan? does anyone know if they are there all the time...my little guy would love them. On our 1st trip to WDW in Feb we didn't do much Epcot (1/2 a day!) figuring there wouldn't be too much there for a 3yo and boy were we ever WRONG! So on our 13 day stay in Dec we want to hit Epcot up a far bit better! Again, he'd LOVE this part but I wouldn't know what to look for on a map!

Yep, they were in Japan. The only thing is they might just be there for the Flower and Garden Festival. They do have 'real' Cars at Hollywood Studios that you can take pictures with like a meet and greet. I'm pretty sure they're at the back near the stunt show.

Oops, unless you're asking about the Toy Story guys, they were in America.

bummer on just the F&G fest...we did hit the Cars and Toy Story characters "in person" but did you mean TS guys in America...is there an America in Epcot (see how dense I am about Epcot?). But probably still just for F&G huh?

I don't think I'm caught up yet but it sounds like you had an uneventful ride to WDW and I think its great that they offer a bus.

So glad everything worked out with your points. Woo Hoo for having more 2013 points to play with! :cool1: Perhaps an extra trip in the future.

Love Saana! Love the pics and the view. Love AKL!

The TS topiaries were in America, and I'm sure they're only there for the F&G Festival. Yes :) America is at the top of the World Showcase, acting as the 'host' for the rest of the countries.

Yes, it sounds like you must do some more exploring if Epcot, it is a totally different feel than the other parks, but then again they're all totally unique. I have never been able to pick a favorite.

You're less than a day behind, I just posted again last night the rest of that day.

I'm very glad they offer the transportation, it was $70 per person round trip. I investigated all the options, and if you have a bigger group than two you can probably be cheaper by renting a car or taxi. Two people was cheapest using Disney's transportation.

I was so relieved that the point situation worked out, I can't even express it in words. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with them all.

AKL is my ultimate favorite :goodvibes

Don't you just LOVE the school bread?! I would have never known about it, had it not been for the DIS.

Wow I really like all the Bonsai trees. So neat to see those!

So do you recommend Pecos Bill for a quick service at MK? I'm trying to remember the other restaurant that is equally as popular there but now I can't think of it. We've never done a QS restaurant at MK before so I need some help.

Aw so awesome that Pete saw your moms button:cloud9: Love when things work out like that!

The same with me, I would have never known it existed if not for seeing it on here in peoples' TRs. It was so delicious!!!

Oh yes, Pecos Bill is a very good choice in my opinion. It has a few options that I havnt found anywhere else in WDW which is very nice when you don't have or want to spend the time at a sit down. It also has some outdoor seating which we always like better. Are you thinking about Cosmic Ray's? I've heard a lot of people like that one.

I loved that mom was getting special birthday attention, it made the trip even more magical :) Every time we talked with a CM they would tell her happy birthday, Pete was just awesome because it was dark and he was at least ten feet in the air and saw her in a crowd of people. It was a very nice moment :)

Oh my, you must. It was so delicious! I had read on someone's TR that they always get it on every trip, but one time it was dry and disappointing, so I was crossing my fingers it was a good bakery day.

This was our second trip during the F&G Festival, and they really go all out. We went back to Epcot the next morning, so more to come.

What a wonderful problem to have! :rotfl:

I "borrowed" a couple of your pictures from this TR to use in mine. I hope you don't mind. I gave you full credit, but needed a couple cruise pictures for something I was writing about. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

Just got caught up with your report. So excited for you that they were able to switch your points around!

All caught up again! I like that they rotate where the various characters are each year. Last year the TS characters were at the front of the park.

After the lovely parade we made our way out of the park. We did stop to watch the fireworks, but the CMs kept making us move because we were stopping in the walkway. They had taped off areas that people were not allowed to stop, and if you did you had to be out of the white lines. They were very very strict about staying out of the walk way. Which was good for the people who were trying to walk, but annoying at the same time.

After the fireworks we tried to quickly make our way out of the park but of course tons of other people were doing the same thing. I remembered an excellent tip I'd read somewhere, to walk through the shops instead of the street since they go all the way through. This was an excellent plan. We made it out in one peace and actually got into the first bus to AKL. We did have to stand, and at an 18 minute ride back it seemed like ages, but that was better than having to wait for another bus.

It was late enough Zawadi Marketplace was closed so we couldn't cut through it like we usually do, we were so tired that extra bit of walking seemed like a lot! The pull-out bed already had sheets on it which was such a nice touch. I did check that they were fresh sheets since I've read a few horror stories about that, but they were perfectly find. I tried to catch up on my journal but didn't get far before falling asleep. It was a fabulous first day at WDW. Oh, I must mention that we both kept feeling like we were still on the ship, it was an odd sensation to say the least!

Day 2 Plans:

10am breakfast at Boma

back to Epcot to see more F&G Festival items

back to MK to do some rides

7:30 dinner at California Grill

I woke up at 8:50 and mom had already been up watching the animals for a while. I don't know how she wakes up early on vacation, sleeping in is one of life's luxuries for me. After getting ready I had some of my delicious Diet Mountain Dew that I had ordered from Garden Grocer. I had survied on Diet Coke on the cruise, but there's nothing like your favorite drink when you haven't had it for a while :cloud9: We watched the animals for a little while before heading to breakfast. Mom was not excited about this meal, we had tried Boma for dinner once before, and while I enjoyed it thoroughly she was not as impressed. I had heard such good things about breakfast I really wanted to try it, and she half heartedly agreed. Well it quickly became one of her favorites

There weren't too many people in there, so mom requested a table by the window which wasn't a problem. Isi from Puerto Rico was our wonderful server, and after ordering Jungle Juice as our beverages I realized I forgot the TiW card so quickly went back to the room for it. Mom kindly waited for me to go get food. Thankfully it wasn't too long of a walk. When I got back we headed to the buffet. There were tons and tons of choices, too many for one meal, it was hard to choose.

The most magnificent Jungle Juice :)

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121275.jpg

The highlight of breakfast was the bread pudding frech toast with pecan caramel sauce. Mom was in love. We met the chef who invented it, Chris, he was very very nice and informed us that there were no calories when eating at Disney during your birthday. That birthday button was magical :)

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121278.jpg

Look at all these delicious carbs :cloud9:

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121279.jpg

The pancakes were absolutely fabulous! So fluffy and light. Yummy Yummy Yummy!!! I like honey on my pancakes instead of syrup, and Isi brought me this which I thought was too cute.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121281.jpg

We decided on some healthy things as well. The asparagus man sang mom happy birthday after seeing her button. She was on cloud nine.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121280.jpg

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121276.jpg

we both also had an omlette

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121282.jpg

mom had another serving of the frech toast she loved it so much.

DisneyDreamandJamboHouse20121283.jpg

While waiting for the check I realized mom had not touched her giant glass of Jungle Juice, and instead of letting it go to waste I decided to go back to the room again and get a container to take it with us. I'm not sure if they would have frowned upon it, so I tried to be as sneaky as possible. Jungle Juice can not be wasted!!! I think we were so full we didn't eat anything until dinner. It was such a magnificent breakfast!

We sat by the pool for a while to let our tummies digest, and I finally got caught up in my journal. I had gotten a day behind which was not good.

A few pictures around the pool area.

Trying to catch up as I've gotten behind but I just had to mention that we saw the ducks in Japan during our Feb/March 2012 trip and the couple had babies. It was so cute having the ducklings come out to walk around our feet. One was trying to eat a little rubberband that was on the ground and I had to shoo it away. Naughty little thing!
