Cruising The Canal May 1, 2015 (Roll Call in Post 1)

I always cut down the center of my crew necks to make the a v-neck. They don't unravel and are much more comfy that way

I have to be honest and say I am not sure if the shops are open on canal day but I do think they are. I remember once some of the staff, in uniforn, coming out onto deck 4 to watch the progress. Plus of course there is plenty of shopping time that day. I remember staff going round on deck on our first crossing selling the special tees but haven't noticed since. I would think the shops would be open.
if I remember correctly they were open. They can't be open when we are decked in a port

Gosh I must have really been "into" the operation of the canal, I don't remember t-shirts being sold on deck for our Jan.2011 Panama Canal cruise. Of course that doesn't mean it didn't happen (in fact I'm sure it did) I just don't remember.

Hi All

Just put a deposit on this cruise yesterday. Will be myself, and DW, celebrating our 25th anniversary on this cruise. So excited!

Hi All

Just put a deposit on this cruise yesterday. Will be myself, and DW, celebrating our 25th anniversary on this cruise. So excited!

This will be our 30th anniversary celebration and my dh ' s 50 birthday celebration, it's in June. We are bringing our teen son along to help us celebrate. Ha ha.

Are there still plans in the works for a private tour in Colombia? I had emailed to get on the list for updates, but never heard back. This is the one port I am really struggling with as far as excursions go.

I have e mailed them twice with no response. That doesn't make me comfortable working with them at this point. I also emailed DCL about the lack of options in Cartagena. Maybe if more people would email dcl, we could get some results. I believe they only go there twice a year.

I'm looking forward to hearing from the group that is going to panama canal in 2 weeks. Maybe we we will get some suggestions and learn more about this cruise. It is so hard to learn very much with so few people that have actually done this cruise. I know for us personally, we are in a unique situation, as that we are bringing a teenager with us and no one seems to have much advice since there are so few teens that have the opportunity to go. I know no matter what, it will be an awesome experience for everyone!

We've done this cruise before (no teen sorry) if I can be of any help ask away, either here or a pm is fine with me.

Hi all. Sorry I haven't been around that much. Had a few life changing events. No I am not a parent now, that will never happen by choice. I would like to see the shirt but to be honest this cruise is not a "big deal" to is like it is to others, so I probably won't be getting it, but if I like it you never know. Also I am part of a little SWA group as I have friends now coming on this sailing from SWA. So really looking forward to that. As to getting to the port early, we will, but only because we will be driving from Ft. Lauderdale and we will hit the road about just after 9 right when most are starting work. That's what we did this year and we had our car refueled and dropped off and on the shuttle to the port by 9:50.

I've never done palo. I think my DH and I will try it next year. Would everyone recommend us try the brunch or the dinner?

I am not a big fan of the dinner so I would recommend brunch. People will argue that dinner is better because of no kids. I will argue that on this cruise that will not make a huge difference because there will hardly be any kids on board. This time around though we are going to do both. Like I said we are not fans of the dinner but even less fans of the Taste Of California Menu, which they have had numerous times on long cruises and it doesn't resemble anything we eat here and is just a bad menu, and we don't want to let our free Palo go to waste since now it's dinner only for the free one.

brunch is our favorite, but dinner is good too! We plan on doing both.
Brunch is low key and you have the opportunity to try lots of different items.
make sure to save room for desert!!

At brunch your sever will take you on a tour of the buffet areas. there is a breakfast area, a seafood area, cheese and bread and italian cold cuts and deserts Plus you can order breakfast or lunch specialties from the kitchen. (eggs Benedict to Chicken parm

I didn't think kids were ever allowed in palo? Am I wrong?

I am sorry you misunderstood. You are correct no kids are allowed in Palo. What I was referring too was the fact that since there are kids in the main rooms, there will be none at Palo. My argument for this cruise is that there are going to be hardly any kids on board so that will not be a issue. That's all. Sorry about the confusion.

If you are only going to do one I would choose brunch. Just amazing. Dinner is dinner. A bit posher and some good food, but brunch is an occasion.

Oh, I get it. We are bringing our kid with us on the cruise but I'm kind of partial to him. He can do his own activity when we go to brunch.

I had been flip-flopping between Nachi Cocom and Mr. Sanchos for our Cozumel day. I finally made a decision and find out that they are both closed on Sundays!

I thought we were pretty well decided on most of our excursions. Now it looks like Puerto Vallarta is really the only day we have figured out for sure:rolleyes:.
