This will be my first DC as a DVC member. We cruise on DCL last Nov but were not members yet. Does DCL do anything like a welcome reception etc for DVC members? The DVC cruise rates were too good to pass up, saving us a little over $1400

There is usually a Member Celebration on embarkation day. If you don't receive a call from DVC before the cruise letting you know when/where, check the Personal Navigator that's available in the terminal or on-board the ship.

You will get invited to a meeting sometime during the cruise with fellow members where you will watch a short video and the castmembers will tell you about the latest DVC news, changes and explain the current offers/benefits if you purchase additional points during your cruise but it's not a hard sell. They will also have small give-a-ways, trivia and a raffle for shipboard credit. They will also be a Mickey Magnet on your door with "Welcome Home" on it.

My sister booked our cruise as nondvc members. Long story short my mom is paying for it and they never asked us about dvc discounts before. Should we call before we go and tell them we are dvc or should we show our member cards to someone when we board? Not sure what to do

When you get to the terminal there will be a dvc kiosk. Stop by and make sure your cabin number is listed as a dvc member. They can update it right there. They will give you your dvc lanyard too. The welcome get together is the day you board. It's about 2:30 or 3:00. We've always gone and they have free drinks, some give always, everyone gets something. I think we all got a bag and hat. Normally it's fun, but have to say the last time (May 2014) was painfully boring. We are cruising in November (I could not resist the dvc offer either) so I hope it's better than the last one.

And if you don't make it because you have something better to do, don't worry about it. The day you board can be busy and there is a lot of stuff to do on the cruise that might be more appealing than DVC presentations. To me, its always been a "if we don't have anything to do, we can swing through and get a free drink or two." We did once - I found it incredibly boring and we find that we'd rather use less crowded pools, explore the ship, get registered with the kids clubs, make sure we are signed up for all our wanted tastings and spa events, etc.

One time the Embarkation Day meet included Trivia Games which were fun and came with prizes.

Will the dvc lanyard only be available then or will it be mailed with our docs?

Does this apply even if you aren't doing a specific DVC cruise. My husband, kids and in laws are doing the Northern European DC next Spring (which doesn't offer any DVC discounts). Can we still check in as DVC members and attend any get togethers that might be happening? Any way (or need) to register as DVC members prior to the trip?

DVC members since 2013! WDW: CR('87), ASM('98), Poly('99), AS Sport('00), ASM('02), offsite('08), AKL('09), ASMo('12), BLT('14), AKL('14) DL: offsite('97) DCLpirate:: Magic('13), Magic('15)

The Member Celebration and any member freebies are available to all members on all DCL Cruises. DVC checks the ships manifest for DVC Members, so you really don't need to do anything prior to the cruise to let them know you are sailing on it.

We were on the WBPC cruise this past May, and we were welcomed by the DVC reps in the Miami ship terminal! They should know you are aboard!:thumbsup2

Is there a difference between the DVC Member Cruise and the Disney Cruises?

DVC Member cruises are chartered from DCL. They are rare, 1 or 2 at most a year. Next year there will be 2, a 4 night to the Bahamas, and 7 night Alaskan Member cruise.

Does the DVC member cruise use more points than regular cruise?

Typically, more. DVC charters the ship and sets the prices.

The Member Cruise point charts on the member website with the other Cruise (Disney Collection) point charts.

thanks, i just printed the point charts. Wow... if you dont have enough points, prbly cheaper paying cash than renting points for it. Wonder if all those goody gifts are worth the extra points/price. :)

I agree, I would never rent points to use for a Member Cruise. I do not rent out my own points, but if I did, I would consider doing that for the cash for a Member Cruise.

Experiencing a Member Cruise is probably the best way to determine if one is worth the extra price. For me, it's the entertainment primarily that makes the cruise worth it. Second would be the interaction with the fellow cruisers, and it seems that we do share common interests. The gifts, except for the pins and prints which I have always enjoyed getting, are a distant third reason why I have booked member cruises.

I will be going on my 3rd this August, and I have booked my 4th for next year.

On most days, the DVC desk on board also has gifts that they hand out. You should also get a magnet on your door and a gift inside your cabin.

Been aboard the Wonder and the Fantasy and DVC's presence on the Fantasy was greater. This could be that it is more recent and they are selling harder.

You will be hard press to miss what's going on with DVC onboard.....read the Navigator.
