Cruisers! State of FL is suing the CDC and Biden Admin

Haha, I gave my thoughts on the thread on the News and Rumors board. I don't have much positive to say about DeSantis, and to discuss his motivations would dive too quickly into the politics that aren't allowed.

But seriously, it's only a few more months... Now isn't the time for temper tantrums.

Well to be honest, it won't be a few more months for cruises. CDC really doesn't want anything to do with that. If my livelihood depended on the cruise industry, I would be fed up as well.

Yes, several would be more accurate. Likely by late fall. But at the end of the day... I hate to say "Oh well" but... there are a lot of people who have lost their livelihood or are struggling. It's unfortunately what happens during a pandemic. And while I understand wanting to get them back to work as soon as possible - safety should come first - not $. A cruise is pretty much the most at-risk, non-essential industry you can get. Maybe if DeSantis had been willing to show more caution/concern earlier on, the industry would have been able to resume earlier.

*sigh* The ol' "petri dish" comment. How is it the most at-risk? Some cruise lines are proposing 100% vaccinated crew and passengers, you can't go off in port on your own, etc. They have the most precautions than ANY other form of transportation or group setting. Cruise lines have been sailing throughout the pandemic. Royal Caribbean had only 10 cases out of 100,000 passengers. 10!

This is the mindset that keeps them held back from opening.

I'd rather be on a cruise ship with every single person vaccinated than on a plane for 1 hour.

Because you have a large amount of people in a relatively small confined area with shared plumbing, and cruise ships have long been notorious for infectious outbreaks, and we have no way of knowing how effective those vaccines are against transmission, and the ports of call won't have 100% people vaccinated either?

Passenger not allowed to leave their excursion group. It will be very controlled. Do you really think the cruise lines want another Diamond Princess issue (which wasn't even their fault)? The ships will have doctors and medical facilities onboard, they have revamped all of their ventilation systems. If you don't follow cruise news, you would have zero knowledge of what their ships actually consist of now.

They are sailing at like 35%-50% capacity and have all the same rules as land restaurants, no live entertainment, etc.

When you go to a restaurant, do you use their washrooms? Isn't that considered shared plumbing?

I haven't used a public washroom since Covid, so... moot point.

If they want to go ahead and reopen, great go ahead. Do I agree with it? No. If you think they should, then great. But quite frankly at this point I have more important things in my life to worry and argue about so I'll bow out.

It’s sad the closure of cruises out of Vancouver has a huge impact here to the local economy. Along with no travel in general. But summer Alaska cruises has been the bread and butter for many business here. And Victoria.
That being said, I personally wouldn’t go on a cruise. Maybe as mentioned if all passengers and crew were vaccinated but it would still be a hard maybe.
Plus being vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t get Covid. It just means you won’t get severely ill, hospitalized and die.
A poster on Dis just posted her fully vaccinated husband just got a mild case and they had to rebook WDW for next month.

And not even that, as a very small percentage will still get severely ill, even with the vaccine as we're now starting to see. I think in a year we'll have a lot better idea as to what the vaccine does/doesn't accomplish, especially regarding the variants. The idea that many have of, "Yay, we're vaccinated so let's just throw caution to the wind and open it up wide", could severely backfire, which is why I think many policymakers are trying to be cautious.

It will tied up in the courts for a long while. IMO it's a waste of time and don't think it will do anything. Honestly I don't like DeSantis and how he's handled any of this

Maybe but it's the wrong way to go about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they stick it to him due to this.

Unless the cruise lines don’t fall under FL business? Most are registered abroad. Not sure how all if that works TBH

There are many things in Canada that have not reopened, or that are still under restrictions.
In BC we’re having a 3rd wave. Restrictions in place, no indoor dining, traveling outside your area, no house gatherings, gym only for 1 on 1 training, etc, etc....
