Question for the cruisers -
What did you do on your Nassau day?

Like David we stayed on the ship as well. Next time I promised DW I would take her to the Atlantis aquarium. She would have liked to have seen that.

I went over to Atlantis to check the place out and gamble a bit. I was impressed by their pool complex. It's large and very nice. Other than that I had no desire to do much else.

We basically stayed on the boat. We got off and walked around downtown for maybe 90 minutes, but the rest of the day was on the ship. We had the podcast Palo brunch from 10-noon and then the podcast wine tasting from 4-5, so we chose to do that stuff instead of spending much time on Nassau.

We stayed on the boat. This cruise was the most crowded I had ever seen it around the adult pool. I guess everyone got the memo that it wasn't worth getting off the ship. :)

Bailed my Mother out of jail. She's such a troublemaker!

JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!

Listened to Pete and stayed on the boat.

Atlantis is beautiful - we own timeshare there instead of DVC. Other than that, I would agree with your sentiments of Nassau - stay on the boat! I would have loved to have done the cruise - need to get my wife's school system to consider this a research trip!

If Nassau is so miserable, then why does DCL stop there? :confused3

Seems odd when the main attraction seems to be an fantastic, but expensive water park.

Hi mainegal:

I'm wondering that too. Must not be many choices of islands for such a short cruise.

Mark

We were talking to the ship's food manager as we were closing out Palo on Nassau day and we asked the same question. He said on a 3 or 4 night sailing, there just aren't many other options knowing they also have to stop at Castaway Cay and then get back to port in time. They used to stop at Freeport but that was even worse than Nassau. And he did say they monitor who gets off the ship and who doesn't to determine itineraries. If they go to a port any the vast majority of the guests are staying on the ship, they rethink the stop. Even though many of us took Pete's advice and stayed on the ship, there were a lot of cruisers that did get off the ship. Perhaps they should listen to Pete??

We walked around Nassau a bit, it was really dirty. Half of our group went to Atlantis, and the rest stayed on the ship.

Let's see, what did we do on the Nassau day? Oh, not much.
First it was a quick bite to eat on Deck 9, just some coffee and a roll.
Then it was the wonderful talk by Mark, the Disney historian.
Then Palo Brunch at 10:00 - outstanding!
Following that it was off to the Spa. We first went to the Rain Forest room for a while then Val went for a 75 minute hot oil massage while I went to the pool for a short bit.
Later there was the Martini tasting - I guess we found out we really aren't martini folks at that one.
Following that was the Wine tasting, where we found a whole bunch of wines that we really didn't care for. There was one wine that we did enjoy and strangely enough, once its name was revealed we realized it was indeed one of the wines on our cheap wine list (see my sig)
After that - it was time for a nap and then getting ready for Dinner.

Somebody mentioned that we had stopped at an island that day, but we must have missed it. :sail:

I did get off the ship for awhile, even took the time to get my passport stamped

Poked around in a few shops, took a few pictures. Was going to do one of the horse drawn carriage rides, but due to the temperature, the horses were off snoozing

Did notice that besides the crew that had gotten off after dinner, some cruisers were coming back to the ship about 1:30 a.m.

Jeff - our day sounds similar to yours! We didn't do the spa or the wine tasting and also realized we are also not martini people (although after you drink enough, some started to taste okay!) We had Palo dinner that night and realized on the next cruise we will have to make sure we don't schedule so much on Nassau day!

I was most amused by Alicia & Paul's description of their attempt to go into Nassau. Now when a US Army 1SG decides to turn around and go back to the ship you know that Pete wasn't exaggerating.

OTOH, our table-mate Chris spent the day at Atlantis and really loved it. He brought back some of the brochures/maps and it really did look interesting. We may try that on Podcast Cruise II.

Only 579 Days!!!

Here's our mini Nassau trip report.

Myself 49, daughter 26 and granddaughter 9 booked the Blue Lagoon Island Dolphin Swim thru Disney for $195 per person. Disney walked us off the ship around 10am to catch our ferry. The ferry ride is about 45 minutes, a narration points out many famous homes and you get a great view of the Atlantis resort.

Once at Blue Lagoon Island you get a short presentation about the Dolphins and instructions on what will happen once your in the water. After getting our life preservers, we got into the cold water. We met our Dolphins, then we got to hug, kiss and dance with them. The grand finale was being pushed through the water by our Dolphins. We're guessing that we spent about an hour in the water with them. Once done we looked at the pictures and dvd you could purchase. We bought the pic's of our Dolphin's kissing each of us and the dvd of our swim, that package cost about $117. Make sure you have cash or credit card.

After our Dolphin encounter we spent some time at Blue Lagoon's Beach. The ferry back to Nassau leaves at 1pm, 2pm, and the last one at 4pm. So you can spend a good amount of time at their Beach.

I asked my granddaughter what her favorite memory from the cruise was, she smiled and said the Dolphin Swim. I think it was well worth the money.

Thank You again to Pete, Tracy and the entire Podcast Team for a vacation of a lifetime. :worship:

More than happy to answer any questions.

I went on the Caribbean Queen Snorkel Tour... It was really nice. What was also good about it was that it did not take all day. We met at 1:45 at the Cadillac lounge, had about a 10 minute walk to our little boat... had about a 20 minute boat ride to Athol Island where we snorkled right near in really nice blue water, saw a bunch of cool fish... then the boat took us back and the crew pointed out some celebrities houses and such. We were back on the boat around 5-5:30ish. Enough time to go in the pool and get ready for dinner. This cost 37 dollars per person and included equipment. We brought our own drinks on board, but you could have purchased soda and chips from them.

We should have listened to Pete and stayed on the ship...

We went diving at Stuart Cove's, but compared to other sites in the Caribbean, the reef was in poor condition and the dive operation was poorly run. For PC2.0, we will definitely schedule a spa day instead.

My mom wanted to walk around a bit so we got off the boat and walked around. We were only off about an hour and got right back to the ship. It was pretty terrible. I spent most of the day at the adult pool (and by day I mean trip) and then headed back to the island a bit in the evening with Rex, Don, and Dustin. It wasn't all that much better at night, other than being harder to see the filth of course.
