Can any one recommend a cruise that would be good for a moderately autistic 19 year old? Of course, he would be interested in the Disney cruise until he figured there were not rides, and he was too big for the Kids club!

I will post this on the other part, just wondering if a cruise is something we will not be able to go on.,

If he likes Disney and their characters, I think he'd love Disney Cruise Line. We were on in Feb and there was a whole group from a "special needs" group home in Canada on and they LOVED it. The characters really played to them and they loved the Disney (Broadway-style) shows every evening. Also - Disney cruisers are very accepting and friendly so I think you'd be welcomed. My only concern - is he sensitive to sound?? There is music playing most places on a cruise ship and meals can be rather noisy.

I have an autistic 16 year old and would be interested to know this as well, I have looked into it a little bit I have thought about some things that I would look for in a cruise. I would like it to not be a mostly adults cruise that way if DS has a little meltdown he probably would'nt be the only one. I would prefer to not have to dress up for dinner every night since DS is very picky about the clothes he wears hes more of a casual and comfortable kind of guy. I would also like to eat our meals with just our family at our table, so we don't disturb anyone. The disney cruise looks great but it's very expensive I would think my DS16 and DS14 would be charged as adults, and I think DS16 would want to go in the Mickey pool with the slide which is a childrens pool and I think the party they have on deck with the characters and all the guests might be overwhelming, but we could always skip that. Sorry for the rambling but as you can see I have put some thought into this, and it's such a change from staying at a hotel and being able to choose where and when to eat and having the flexibility to come and go as you please, or with our kids as you need to . :) Linda

Personally I think you would be best off with Royal Caribbean. THey also have a very good special needs dept. depending on if you needed anything special. but they have more varied activities than most other lines.
