Cruise Weather in August?

I'm thinking about booking my first Disney cruise in Aug. 2006. Just wondered about the weather. Will it be too hot? How about hurricanes?

We have cruised in August 5 times and here is our record.

CC 5 for 5

Tropical Depressions 1 for 5 (2001) - Raining in St. Thomas and bad sea conditions, everything was tied down on the decks when we left and you had to hold onto the walls walking in the halls that night. The next morning everything was fine.

hurricanes(2004) - 1 for 5 Charley this year, we were on the ship by 1 but some people had to board at Key West. Could not dock at GC so spent overnight at Cozumel and went to the Bahamas Thursday.

Yes it is hot, but on the ship there is always a breeze blowing. We are beach/water sports people so at port thats where we go. Did not like Key West the 1st time, trolley tour, too hot and boring. But this year did the jet ski tour and really enjoyed it.

We are booked for Aug. 2005 Wonder and 2006 Magic, so we enjoy all the heat we can get, have to store it for the Pa. winters.

We've cruised twice in August and while it was hot and humid we experienced no rain or hurricanes. BTW, if you decide to book the 8/19 cruise come over to the Cruise Meets board. There's a thread already started Calling All 8/19/06 Special Western Cruisers! AKA "The Cruisin' Castaways" .

Sailed a few times in August and never had hurricane problems but it is hot and humid...although as others have said, once underway the breeze on deck is pretty constant.

Key West in august was unbearable...even hotter than Cozumel!!!

I had a blast sailing the last three summers in August and for years we traveled in late August before school starts. We've never had a problem. The weather was hot, but we love that!

This year's hurricanes were nuts. If you travel early August I think you are safer.
