My husband, daughter and I started out 8/30 on 7 day Western and on Monday I was notified that my Mom had a stroke. Disney was wonderful helping me obtain airline tickets to Chicago for Tuesday-I departed Grand Cayman and was escorted by wonderful Disney staff.
My Mom is doing well under the circumstances and I am forever thankful to Disney.
For those of you who are wondering where was I after Monday, now you know.
We met a lot of Dis ears on board. My husband and daughter remained on ship and my daughter continued to have a wonderful time at the Oceaneers Club and my husband spent some time with our table partners who were so very nice and we had a tremendous amount in common with them.
Thanks to Disney!
We will be writing a special letter of thanks to them. It was very extraordinary how well they handled this situation; they could not have done better and we are so glad we chose Disney to cruise with!

I am so sad to hear this news. :( But I am glad to hear your Mom is doing okay and that Disney took care of you.

Donna!!! We were just saying yesterday as we left the ship that it was amazing we hadn't run into you since Monday. I'm so sorry to hear the news - I know how much you were looking forward to having a relaxing vacation! I'm glad to hear that your mother is doing better - I'll keep you all in my prayers. Are you going to try to go again next year?

My prayers are with you and your family. I think sending a thank you note would mean alot to the staff. I would have done the same thing you did. I would have let my hubby and kids stay on.

I hope your mother is feeling well and may she continue to be well.

God Bless you and your family!

Oh Donna!!! Tons of pixie dust to your Mom. I'm so glad Disney made things easy for you under what had to be very difficult circumstances!
I hope your mom continues to improve, and I hope you get to cruise again soon.

Donna, You and your mom will be in my prayers. DCL is great about making a bad situation a little easier to bear. This summer we were at WDW and due to leave in 2 days on our first Disney cruise when we got word that my dad wasn't expected to live. DCL gave us the option to reschedule our cruise anytime in 2004 and only charged us $85 per person. Thankfully, we were able to get home and spend 3 days with my dad before he died, who incidentally had a disabling stroke 6 years ago which left him in a wheelchair. And, thanks to DCL, we still have our Disney cruise to look forward to which we've rescheduled for May.

I hope that your Mom's stroke wasn't too disabling and that she will make a full recovery.

Donna

Donna, so sorry to hear about your Mom. I'm very happy to hear that Disney was able to be such a big help and that you were able to get back to her quickly.

Hope you can cruise again soon and enjoy the full cruise with your family.

I'm keeping you and your family in my prayers.

Donna,

Prayers for your mom.

Now the practical CPA question.

Did you have trip insurance and tell us how it reimbursement goes if you did

Jim

So sorry to hear about your mom. I am glad Disney came through for you. Hope your mom is up and about real soon!

Donna, I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune. I'm happy to hear though that your mother is better.

I too had a similar situation last year on our cruise. I knew my dad wasn't doing well, but on Wednesday I got a call from home saying to get home fast. I didn't make it on time, but Disney was fabulous. They helped me pack, arranged my airline tickets and ride to the airport.

I had insurance through Disney and they paid for my missed days on the ship, airfare home, hotel because I couldn't get home the same day and would have paid for meals (but I couldn't eat). I won't ever cruise without insurance. Before I had insurance because I feared missing the ship. Now I know you never know what could happen. With a hotel stay on land you may be able to cancel and not get charged too much, change airline tickets with a minimal charge (which may be waived), but without the insurance, all that money for the cruise is down the drain.

Donna I am sorry to hear your mom took ill.Glad she is on the mend.
Twhipple I am so sorry for your loss
It is nice to hear, though, in both situations that Disney took care of things. That is why we all keep coming back.
