Disney ships are the only cruise ships to have four captains – the ship’s captain, Captain Mickey, Captain Hook and Captain Jack Sparrow.

With Captain Minnie, do the ships now have five captains?

I believe, other than the actual ship's captain, the other ranks are honorary, not actual ranks.

Also, be aware there are 2 actual captains onboard:
There are two captains on any cruise ship at all times. One is the Ship’s Captain, and the second captain in command is called the Staff Captain. The Staff Captain will be on duty when the Captain is sleeping or needs to do an inspection, for example.

The main authority will, however, always rest with the Captain.

Exception to the last being if the Captain is incapacitated. Then the Staff Captain takes over. If the Staff Captain is also incapacitated, the Safety Officer takes over.

When I was on the Celebrity Edge, Captain Kate was doing her spiel at the Muster Drill and went over that. Then quipped "If ALL of us are incapacitated, you can safely assume you're having a better day than we are."

But the odds of all three being incapacitated are super slim and would have to take something serious to have happened.

So, slightly off topic, I use to work for a shipping company and one year we did the office Christmas party on a Bay area yacht cruise. With the ship staff that came in plus the all of the captains that work in the office and the captain of the yacht, there were over 20 captains on that ship.

from a legal perspective they can call anyone they want 'captain'

when I boarded a vessel I asked to speak to the MASTER .... btw during boardings for drug/migrant interdiction

I chuckled years ago when Disney introduced (during a cruise) their half dozen 'captains'

maybe next year they will call then Commadores or Admirals

legally there is ONE MASTER of a vessel ......

<One needs a certain license to be MASTER ........ anyone can be captain>

I may be misremembering, but I thought at one point Disney recognized one of their Captains as Commodore. That was the one that was senior to the rest of them.

You are correct. Commodore Tom retired during Covid. He was Captain for all 4 ships' Maiden Voyages before the Wish and retired before the Maiden voyage.

my favorite captain is Captain Fabian. We cruised the Panama Canal with him in 2014 and had him again this summer in Alaska. He has a great sense of humor when he makes the announcements. And he is very approachable and interesting to talk to when you meet him. He actually was in the atrium between dinners on multiple evenings to meet guests.

Is that the same Captain Fabian that was on Princess? Is he on DCL now?
I don’t think so. According to the DCL Blog he was already on the team that was on site for building the Magic and Wonder. I know he was in Germany for the Fantasy and Dream being built. He did a talk about this on our PC cruise. And when talking to him, he told me (I am from Germany) how much he loved his time in Germany.
