I know I should ask this on the cruise board, but a lot of you are vet cruisers so you'd know....

If we were to take a summer cruise and have a stateroom w/a verandah, is there a chance we could sleep with the sliding door open?

DH isn't thrilled at the idea of cruising but admits that it would be cool to have the door open at night while we sleep and hear the boat and the water.

I'm thinking it might be too hot; even at night. What do you think???

I don't see why not. I haven't sailed with a verandah, but if you don't mind the temps then you should be fine. I bet the breeze would be wonderful.

As long as the ship is neither a submarine nor a flying ship that is going to reach an altitude above 3,000 meters I think you will be just fine.

Check with your room steward. I think I recall that the air conditioner in the room does not function when the door is open. If that is not an issue then go for it.

I remember a trip where our teenage son was sharing a room with our daughter and he slept on the verandah.

Enjoy your trip. Don't forget to order a Mickey Bar from room service and enjoy it late in the evening with the moonlight shimmering on the water...

It is a great day to be alive.

Sailing in the summer--very hot and humid.

leaving the door opened will cause condensation to build up in the cabin making everything feel wet.

Also-- some ships the air conditioning turns off when the door is left open.

Feeling the breeze in your cabin? it doesnt happen.

You're gonna want it closed... the humidity will get you...

BUT... Might I suggest that when you want to get up in the morning, you call the night before and order a tray of coffee and some pastries from Room service and have it on your verandah? It's a very nice treat to start your day off with - even if you are going to have breakfast after... :goodvibes

Oh.. .and tell your husband... he will fall in love with cruising and will want to do it again even before he gets off the ship!!!

Our airconditioning worked fine with the door open. We found the cabin so cold that we had to keep the door open to let some warm air in.

If I remember correctly, it is requested that you do not sleep with your door open...although I can't tell you where I read that, if it was on the ship or where, but it is immediately coming to my mind as a "no no".

I seem to remember this being on a sign in the room somewhere, maybe on the inside of the stateroom door? I recall reading it onboard as well. It specifically mentioned condensation and the A/C I think.

the sign is on the balcony door above the handle
