Hi everyone-- can you please share your experiences with the on-board photos? I saw a recent price sheet for Shutters and was a little shocked at the digital pricing (compared to WDW PhotoPass, for example).

If you have been on a cruise recently, approximately how many photos/files did you receive (please indicate the length of your trip too)?

Approximately what percentage had the borders or text that cannot be changed added to them?

Were you pleased with the quality of the photos? Of course much depends on your family's ability to all smile together, but were you rushed and a lot of pics not so great? Or do the photographers take their time to get a good shot before moving onto the next family?

Where were your cruise photos taken throughout the trip? (Other than the obvious pre/post dinner posed ones)

Can the photographers take a photo of you with your OWN camera? (WDW PhotoPass will do this)

Thanks very much!

You can take photos yourself, I feel they overprice theirs. Their photographers will not take your photos for you but the CMs will.

We had photos taken in MDRs Palo at Castaway. At character meets, at character breakfasts.

Yes, we will definitely take a ton of photos ourselves. But will they take a picture of us? Its often hard to get a family photo on trips, and if we hand our camera off to the "professional" we have a hope that they can use the camera and frame it well vs. handing to another guest. Wasn't sure if they would only take photos using their camera so that we buy it.

Thank you.

As above the CM will take photos, the Shutters staff do not.

Thanks, I was replying before you were finished I think. I appreciate the info.

I will wait to see the pics onboard before buying, but am concerned they will be cheesy and have text and borders everywhere per the disclaimer. Hoping for some good ones, different than we can take ourselves.

All of our photos had the border, and there wasn't an option to remove the borders. I'm not sure if that has changed or not. We came home with 400 photos from our Alaska cruise and felt we definitely got our money's worth. Since it was our daughter's birthday, they went above and beyond to get great photos of her. They even gave her a magical moments certificate for taking the best photos lol.

The price of the Shutters package is high, but no more so than if you go to pretty much any photography studio. The value is very subjective and depends upon your situation and how much you can afford. We went on a cruise with our daughter, her husband, and grand-children. To us the photos are priceless, since we live in a different state than them. We got about 60 photos, so they came out to be about $6 a piece for us. Most of the photos were pretty good. The photographers were patient while taking our pictures and never tried to rush us. They were pretty good at posing us and they took several pictures each time.

On some of the other cruise lines, every time you turn around a photographer is taking your picture. They are much less intrusive on DCL. They pretty much stay around the main lobby and you sometimes see them in the MDR's. In fact if you are contemplating getting a photo package, you will probably be seeking them out.

Last year I brought 1 - Becoming Iron Man photo - but didn't buy any others. I travelled solo and just got CMs to take photos with the characters etc. I did have lots but didn't particularly like any of them. The only one I always seem to think I probably should get is the welcome onboard one but last year I just didn't like it so didn't bother. That one has the cruise you are sailing on on there so can be a nice momento

On our 3 night cruise, DH and I didnt bother getting a photo package and ended up buying 2 expensive photos ($20 EACH). This time its 7 nights and with our two youngest so we are planning on buying just the all digital package and printing what we want because we want formal night photos and all other photos. This way I'm not having to drag my phone/camera around and can just enjoy it.

We always get the digital package. The way I see it, we have to like at least 15 of their pictures to break even , and that's never been a problem. I don't mind the borders they add. We like going to the plain backdrop photographers too. They rarely, if ever, put a border on those, and there's hardly ever a crowd. I guess I don't pay attention to if they are rushing me...I sent my girls up for individual pics, then together, then we join in for family shots...it's never an issue. We've gotten over 100 pics on some 7 days trips, around 60 on a 4 day. Leaving soon, so I'll see
