We are booked for Disney POL but now my daughter saw a travel network show on the Freedom of the Seas and she wants to do that. Would you change??????? Money is not an object.

My opinion, yes I would change. I LOVE Disney, don't get me wrong. But I have been on the Freedom and enjoyed every minute of it!!!

DH and I were planning a trip to Disney next year. Well, plans changed. Two days ago we booked a week on the Allure of the Seas, sister ship to the mega Oasis of the Seas. Allure's maiden voyage is this coming December. We are sailing her in March.

We will make it to Disney, just not for a couple more years!

Not b/c my 8yo saw a tv show, that's for sure. ;)

I might entertain the idea for a future vacation. But just for ummm....life lesson purposes...when we make a plan, we stick with it kind of thing.

But if you weren't entertaining the idea of a cruise before--I wouldn't change now just b/c your child asked.

If you research it and feel it may be a better vacation--then go for it. But in general, once we have our plans...we don't really change them except for a very good reason and my young ducklings going green over an advertisement (which is essentially the premise of the entire Travel channel) isn't a good reason IMHO.

Have you been to Disney before? How long ago? If your daughter has memories of it then I would consider changing. We are going on Freedom of the Seas this September. I have been on two other Royal Caribbean cruises and love them. I love all cruises though!

You'll have fun either way. :goodvibes

I'm taking my daughter on Freedom this August. We pretty much alternate between Disney and cruising with vacations now. When she was younger we strictly did Disney. We knew it was time to mix it up when we took her on an Alaska cruise and she asked us if the snow on the mountain we were on was real. :scared1: Time to get a dose of the real world now and then!!!

She really loves cruising...getting dressed up for dinners, attending the musical shows, etc. I love that she's exposed culturally to some of the rest of the world. Good stuff! :thumbsup2

I agree, love cruising, and a Disney cruise would be the best of both worlds :thumbsup2!

Our family has been blessed to enjoy a WDW grand gathering and also the Disney Magic C'mas cruise together. Looks as tho your DD, Caitlyn is 8yo, so definitely young enough to enjoy all the magic of Disney ship theme activities, tea w/Wendy, wonderful kiddie clubs, and characters on the ship. :goodvibes

We cruised Freedom's sister ship, Liberty of Seas, last year. It is indeed a huge floating resort with several interesting ports and many new adventures for all ages to enjoy. Our grands (13-9-5yo) just returned from Easter break LoS's cruise and absolutely loved every minute on ship - they enjoyed being spoiled by the ship's
wonderful service, activites such as the Flow Rider and ice skating lessons, rock wall climbing, mini golf and sizable water park and pool on board. Plus at the ports they enjoyed swimming with dolphins and climbing Dunn's Falls, etc. :)

Must admit, DH and I are spoiled also. IMO it really depends on age and interests, it's nice to spice it up sometimes, so we'd choose a cruise over WDW hands down any day! :lovestruc

To the OP...

Oh, you have an 8 year old? Definitely try a Disney cruise. She's at the perfect age for one! I have a 15 year old. That's why we choose Royal Carribean for many of our cruises.

We are tossing around the same question really. WDW or a cruise with our girls? On one hand WDW sounds great b/c of our dd's ages (6 & 2). BUT walking around in the July heat with the 4th crowds doesn't sound so appealing....BUT as of now dd2 isn't potty trained so no onboard swimming which will be a problem since dd6 will want to......and so the circle continues!:rotfl: We may run out of time before making a decision and go no where!

Although if money was no object it'd DEFINITELY be a Disney Cruise. Hands down. Money is an object for us so that is a no-go.

Sorry OP. I dont' think I was much help.:goodvibes

Why not do both? Just shorten your WDW trip and then go on a Disney cruise? We did that last year and LOVED it.

42 trips to Disney and then we discovered cruising. Of course the kids are all grown up and we do an occasional Disney trip with their families, but I'd rather cruise. We did our first Disney cruise a couple months ago, and I would prob feel differently if I needed all the free babysitting Disney does on the cruise or my kids wanted to stand in line for autographs, but I like almost all of the other cruise lines more. That free babysitting really costs when you see the difference in price of most cruiseships versus Disney.
