Cruise on points?

I did look at them briefly...So based upon 2008 sailing dates 4 night Disney Wonder do I understand this properly?

Category 9 stateroom...138 points first 2 adults..3rd/4th in room 91 points each...Thats' 458 points 2008..Thats for 4 nights?

Seems like ALOT OF POINTS! Not a cruise expert by any means, but couldn't you get a better "cash" deal than that..I would imagine there are codes out there etc like booking through Disney Vacations???

You are not crazy - that IS a lot of points and yes, you read the charts right if your 3rd & 4th persons are age 13+ and you're going in "regular" season!! They keep raising the required points for DCL every year so they're even more for 2009 & 2010!!! We used points to cruise (3 ppl) in July in a Cat 10. It took 392 points which was a little over 1 & a half years worth of points for us. I did not like being out of points and I don't think we will ever cruise on points again. But it DID save us about $3K cash tho.

DCL's cash prices are also quite high but a lot of people rent their points out and then use the cash to cruise...I am not comfortable with the renting idea though so to each his own.

I assume that the points you are going to use have to be vaild when the cruise sails (or can you "extend" your points that way?) For example I have some 2008 points that expire Mar 1. Can I book a June 2009 cruise using those points if I commit them now (since it usually takes a couple years points to cover the cruise)?

I believe that you have to bank & borrow all of your points into the UY year that the reservation occurs.

Agree. I tried to do that for 2010. They would only let me bank 2009 and borrow 2011 and add them to my UY 2010 points. The points I transferred from 2008 to 2009 could not be used.
