Cruise help needed!

I am thinking of booking DCL for our trip in Feb 2011, we will be travelling with a 2 and 5 year old, weather wise should it be pretty ok? I had previously booked a 4 night cruise back in 2007 but was too far pregnant and had to cancel. Should I go for the 3 or 4 night and will it be the new Dream ship? TIA

I would imagine it would be the Dream, which is scheduled to start its 3/4/5 day cruises at the end of January 2011 when the Wonder will move to LA

8 sailings in Feb 2011 all on Disney Dream, starting prices below for 2 ad & 2 ch, they include Insurance and transfers so that will bring price down if you don't want them.
Personally I would not do a 3 night cruise, 1st day you don't board until afternoon, last day you get off 8-9am so really its a 2.5 day cruise. 4 days is our minimum.
Never been in Feb, maybe check temps this year to give you an idea.

Thanks guys for the info...and the pricing. I thought it may be a good idea to start with a 3 day as my DH get sea sick on the ferry to scotland LOL

I know cruise ships are different so maybe I should look into the 4 day

I don't have the best sea legs but totally fine on the cruise ships, The Disney ships were built in the 80's I am sure the Dream will be even smoother 20+ years newer and lots bigger. Why don't you just wait until August and come with us lot http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2327473

I wish I could go this August but don't have any leave at work!!!

We rae looking at the 3 March 2011 now this would mean we would dock the day we are due to fly home have you ever done this before? Our flights home wont be until at least after lunch from MCO

There was a thread a few month back about ending you trip on a cruise, just about all of us said we would prefer at least a day or 2 back in Orlando, this is what we always do. Never flown home same day, it would be a massive downer but if thats how it falls then its possible.

Thanks Wayne, at least I have two dates scheduled, just need the go ahead from my sons school, i put the letter in today, he is only starting p1 so hope it's not a problem!

We flew home the same day as we docked after a 4 night DCL cruise. We had a car which we parked at the port and we drove to DTD, checked in with Virgin and wandered round DTD til we had to go the airport, was a nice last day

we also don't have sea legs and for about a week afterwards we still felt wobbly!!

I would DEFINATLY do the 4 day, on a three day, if you blink you will be off the ship!

Ferry to scotland>>>> dont even compare it, although my dn got a tad sea sick the first night, she soon got over it and doesnt even remember about it.

Compared to disney prices on land the disney cruise is quite expensive for the amount of days ................. has anyone been on the cruise and not found the experience worth it???

Depends what you are comparing it with, don't think its really possible. Yes its only a small room compared to a hotel but you have someone look after you 24/7, tell them you want ice twice a day, its there for you, every evening you come back to beds prepared with a towel animal and a chocolate. Food is available 24/7, evenings on a par with any top Disney restaurant but you can have 3 different entrees if you want or no entree and 4 desserts all included, hungry at 2am they have food to you within minutes. Characters around all the time. Broadway style shows. probably about the best kids clubs in the world.
Our cruise on the new Disney Dream next year is costing approx £80pppn. £240pn for 3 of us, how much would it cost for at Disney for hotel, food, park ticket, evening show, unlimited soda?
Pricing also varies massively, we have paid anywhere between £50-100pppn, some of the 10 night deals with free kids probably work out even cheaper.
You can cruise way cheaper, we have with RCCL, but not in the same league for a Disney fan. They have a unique product which we want.

I would DEFINATLY do the 4 day, on a three day, if you blink you will be off the ship!

Definitely go for a 4 night if you can ~ we had to do a 3 night as with our dates the 4 night was over Christmas itself and more than double the price. Obviously a 3 night was better than a no night but it was over FAR too quickly.

I have really serious motion sickness issues and ALWAYS get seasick on ferries (e.g. Statue of liberty, star ferry in HK, glass bottom boats, etc.) but I was perfectly fine on both of our cruises. So was DD, who also always gets seasick. So I wouldn't worry about that if I were you. We've done the 3 and the 4 night DCL cruises. Both were fun, but more is definitely better. And yes it was worth every penny. Most relaxing vacation we've ever had. All 4 of us enjoyed it immensely!!!

Thanks everyone. its so good to know that the motion sickness wont be as bad on a cruise ship this has always put my DH off before. I am hoping this will be the first of many cruises! I think it will be a lovely relaxing way to end our holiday

If you've got any worries at all about sea sickness I would suggest you get a pair of sea bands and try them:-

I suffer quite badly from motion sickness and before using these bands I couldn't even go on a rowing boat on a park lake let alone cross the English Channel without throwing up!

However, I've been using these bands for over 20 years now and they work a treat...I've even managed a 4 hour trip on a ferry in a storm and an overnight journey on a ferry without feeling sick at all
