I finally recieved a reply to the email I sent to DCL Guest Communications. I is a full page long if any of you who were on the cruise with us would like to read it I can have my husband scan it at work and I can email it to you. Just sent me your email address and I'll send you a copy.

I also just got my letter today. It too is 1 page long, (do not have scanner, so can't do that).

It is a pleasant letter that does not say too much other than that the smoke was spotted on video, alarms did sound, and the teenage boys all reported the fire at about the same time (I am doing this by memory as I left letter at office).
I had specifically asked certain questions, and this answered one of them.

How fire started-answer still under investigation of Coast Guard )Ithink)
If you want more info, email me, or just ask on this board (but I will not have letter in front of me until tomorrow)

Can you post some highlights from the letter for us?

Thanks.

Sounds like same letter except nothing re medical claim (as we did not have that concern like you daughter)

Thanks for posting the response!

What's interesting is that the Coast Guard is still investigating the fire, but DCL has taken steps to prevent a future problem. So, I assume, there must be a probable cause to the fire that led DCL to prevent a future problem and it's just not official yet. At least I hope so. Otherwise, it would be quiet upsetting if they didn't know what caused it which I find difficult to believe.

According to DCL, they are investigating multiple causes and for every possible cause they are taking remedial action. They are working with the Coast Guard and marine engineers to do all they can to prevent such a thing from happening again. :)

Just a thought...
I know that a lot of the fire cruisers have criticized Disney for being guarded in the information they are releasing, taking a long time to send letters, etc.
I can't say that I really blame them...personally, I would be guarded too if I knew that it whatever I released would immediately end up on the internet!
(Of course, I'm just as anxious as anyone to read the info' tho').

We all want to know exactly what happened - but the world we live in (lawyers, 24 hour CNN, stockholders, internet) just doesn't allow it. We can only trust that they have taken appropriate action - really, Disney doesn't want it to happen again as much as we don't want it to happen again.

My concern with Disney was not the same as others(at least I don't think it was). True, I was curious about what caused the fire. And also how it was discovered. I told DCL communications I felt the fire crew did a wonderful job in putting out the fire and protecting us. My concern was mainly in how they handled my daughter's exposure to the smoke both during the fire and after. I have no inclination to sue Disney I wrote to them so that maybe in the future they will handle things differently. I would think they would be more concerned that a 10 yr old started coughing during and continued for the remainder of the cruise. This was brought to the attention of guest services and they were unconcerned. True we were disappointed about the loss of Mickey pool, but this was not my main concern in writing them.
Do I still dream of another Disney cruise? Yes I check out the boards regularly.

For all of you who still want to know the outcome of the Disney and Coast Guard investigaton....you may never know.

As many of you know, I work for the local fire department here on Hilton Head Island.
One of my responsibilities is getting the "Incident Reports" for people who need them, ie, insurance companies, investigators, property owners, newspapers, etc.

This is how it works here and in most places, according to our Fire Marshal. And since the ship was in International waters at the time...who knows what the rules are.

There is a structure, car, or whatever type of fire it is. The rigs and the boys report to the fire, do their thing - put the fire out, do salvage and overhaul, etc. Then the investigators are called in- if needed.

When the boys get back to the station, they do type into the computer the "Iincident Report". The computer automatically puts in who, what, when, where. The boys then write a "narrative" that tells what they did on the fire scene. The ones who ususally write are the ones in charge at the secne. This report is the one that is available to the public.

If there is an investigation called for, we have our own investigation team, state,
insurance, and outside invesitgators can be called in. They come in do their investigation and report. This report is NOT available to the public. If this report is needed for insurance purposes or any other purpose, then it has to be supobened(spelling) by the court.

Although Disney may issue some type of a statement at a later date, I doubt if any of us will ever find out the real cause of this fire.
