Cruise ever extended due to weather?

Hi-

I am new here so HELLO. My Wife and two kids and myself are on the Wonder 4 night Cruise in 2 weeks(19th). I posted a topic similar to this on cruise critic but wanted to post here to posibly get a tad more responses...

I have a question? With all the hurricane activity swelling about right now? Has anyone's cruise ever been extended due to weather? We are worried about the weather the carribean has been seeing lately...

We are scheduled to go to Nassau, CastawayCay and one day at sea? Has anyone ever been detoured around that itinerary? If so what was the second option? What I mean is where else is there to go? Another Island? I pray for the saftey of the cruiser's this week. And hope they have a great trip.. I also pray the Bahama's can stick this cat4 out!!!! Its not looking good for them at all!!!!

Can anyone reply with what thier trip was suppossed to be like but where they were sent instead due to weather?

Well, tomorrow's Wonder and Sunday's Wonder will be cruises to nowhere as of now. As far as extended cruises, as far as I know it's not happened before, but who knows what this weekend will bring.

What exactly is a cruise to NOWHERE? At sea the entire time? That kinda bums? How far is Bermuda? You would think it could go there if it isn't far? But I am not sure about the distance?

My kids are gonna be SO bummed. They were so excited to see the emerald blue water and such...The fish swimming between thier legs and all... So sad if CC gets SLAMMED!!! SO FREAKIN' SAD

A cruise to nowhere is indeed one that only includes sea days. In this particular case Disney has decided that this is the best way to keep its customers safe and happy. After all I don't think that it would be much fun to have rain and high seas the whole trip. What will the aftermath of the storm be, only time will tell, but since the Bahamas economy runs on tourism you can bet that the Government of the Bahamas will do everything possible to get the island up and running as soon as possible. Castaway cay, of course, might be another matter...this one was hit with a hurricane a few years ago and was closed to visitors for a while.

The one cruise I potentially see being extended is the Magic due in on Sat. morning. That is prime strike time for the hurrican, and all three ports on the east coast of Florida. They may have to wait until Sunday to dock.

My question would be what happens to the cruisers who are due to depart on Saturday?

I read on another post that DCL is offering a $300 onboard credit for those on the Wonder departing today since they won't be visiting any ports of call.

Not that I want anyone to miss out on the fun ports on call BUT $300 credits onboard seem awesome! Although, I guess everything would be full by then! I don't think that I would be all that adverse to a cruise to nowhere. EVERYONE complains about not having enough time to do everything so this would be a time to do it!

On our 4 day Disney cruise in Nov 2001 we went to Charleston, SC instead of Nassau and Freeport, then we made it to CC on the last full day as planned. The Hurricane (I think it was Michelle?) did hit CC, but I don't know at what force, probably a glancing blow, the damage wasn't that bad and the family beach was cleaned up nicely, still a little messy on the Adult beach. The weather was wonderful that day after the storm.

DCL does the best it can with available ports to keep us all happy and safe. For instance, we did an "eastern"....well actually, at that time, it was the only 7 day....and went to Key West due to a hurricane. The current Magic cruise will be extended till Monday--they're waiting out the storm in Galveston (see other post). DCL also offers great deals to passengers when these things happen.

So...a cruise to nowhere isn't really a bad deal. I'm sure you could get a full refund if you choose not to sail due to these changes.

The folks currently on the Magic won't be home Saturday, but Monday instead.
And next week's Magic cruise will be cut by 2 days.

I posted elsewhere that I'd love to hear how they are going to feed 3000 people for 2 extra days.
I don't see keeping folks entertained as a problem. That snow ball bingo jackpot is going to soar.

Only word from DD is that Costa Maya is beautiful and really unspoiled. I already had the news about ininerary changes from the boards before I talked to her.

On our cruise last May we took a galley tour and the chef said they always have enough food on board for an extra two days. This is DCL, they are PREPARED and plan for contingencies. It was fascinating to hear the chef say they prepared 10,000 meals EACH DAY when you count guests and crew.

Maybe some of the folks on the ship can post what's happening on the two extra days but I'm sure Disney will maintain their usual high standards.

I've never been worried about her safety. She's safer on the ship than anywhere else.

What I'm waiting on is to read the trip reports from the folks that are now on the Magic. They should be fascinating.

I am glad that you are not a worrier like me! But I know you are probably right~ she is a lot safer there than some other places. Plus, I know it's not ideal, but what a fun opportunity for people to get to know each other better! I am not surprised to hear they have extra food, only that they have only 2 days worth and not more! I wonder how many Mickey ice cream bars they go through?
