If I compete in a half marathon on Sunday, do you think I can make a cruise that leaves Sunday. I think the timing is right. Race starts at o'dark thirty and checkout is at 11. Anyone done it before? I ask because I notice the castaway challenges leave on the Monday not the Sunday

You can make it depending on your finish time. You need to leave Orlando around noon just to make sure you get there with no issues.

Just know you won't get to be apart of the Castaway Challenge so even if you run the 5K on the island you won't get the addition medal just the standard 5K one.

I think that Disney GOT the idea of the Challenge from people doing this. :)

Unless something really dramatic happens, yes you can make it. You might not feel great, but you can do it. Even with my slow slow pace, being slow post-race, sitting and putting arnica on my feet before putting on flipflops, etc, then taking the bus back to AOA and walking all the way to my LM room, I was back, changed, packed (DH and DS had taken most of our stuff), and out of that room before checkout time for this year's January Half. If we had been heading to a cruise we would have gone faster with everything post-race and hit the road to PC! Might even have been able to take Disney bus transportation (they tend to meet after 11ish), just to make sure no issues on the road to the port would stop us.

The standard 5K medal is pretty awesome now. It's not the hard plastic Mickey ears anymore, not since this year's Challenge. So if you go and have your own challenge, you'll still have a great medal, and you won't have had to pay the extra $75 for another 5K.

The Challenge cruise leaves on Monday b/c the January even has the full marathon on Sunday, and that wouldn't be OK to have the cruise leave that day.

I did this in Feb. I had finished the run, had a sit down and coffee before my husband drove me back to our resort (off site). I then had time to shower, eat breakfast and finish packing before our check out time at 10 am. There was then plenty of time to drive to PC to check in for the cruise.
Obviously it will depend on your start corral and run time what time you actually finish, but it is easily possible.
The Castaway Challenge departs the following day as they use the same timing equip etc for the 5k and don't have time to dismantle it all at the end of the race and get it to the ship in time for it to leave the same day. At least that is what was explained to us on our last cruise when we enquired why there couldn't be a Castaway Challenge on the Cruise departing on Sunday.
