Where are my manners?

A Big Cruisetoberfest Welcome to both cdnmickeylover and dvcChrisVWL (alikat99's DH). Happy to have you join our precruise discussions and looking forward to many postings from you both.

This was the big weekend. On Friday night I attended my 30th H.S. reunion. WHAT A BLAST!!! I had such fun. It was a great night. And then Saturday night, I invited "The Old Crowd" to our home so they could meet (or see again) DH and DS. Tulirich did not go to the reunion with me. He told me to go and have a great time (but not too much fun) and to tell him all about it when I return home. Saturday at the house went very well too. I was a little nervous because some of the old crowd had *old issues* between them but it could not had gone any better and I worried needless about things from the past that were left in the past.

Sad part is that those two days were followed by today with a wake and tomorrow with the funeral of our son's Grandmaster in the Martial Arts who died suddenly and tragically at age 51.

Hi Rosemary and Mary,

You got me there-OUCH!! The nearer I get to the big FOUR-OH, the more confused I get - Add the Pina Colada and the beers from the evening before and you see what happens

Hi Folks,

I've got a mail from up north - Canada - and one from TwinAve (Mary's DS), so perhaps the next update will be necessary sooner than planned :bounce:
And I take a holy oath that I will never again mix up Rellingtwin and Tulirose or they've found a new way to earn themselves a drink ;) I happened to me last year once, it happened again this time, and the next time it will cost me two Konk Coolers!!!

I forgive you, Eric. No worries. ;)

Hey Dan, my man! Where is you?

Eric - Looks like you and me are keeping this thread from dropping into oblivion. Hey, all the rest of you guys. Let's get posting!

Taswira, I was actually thinking of this cruise, I wasn't aware that the Disney Club credit was a promotional deal. I guess I'll wait until they announce it.

Viking, I'll bring an unusual flavor of scnapps too. I especially enjoy cinnamon. Maybe we can meet one night and have a scnapps party with the Dissers. I wonder how many different types we can come up with? How bad of a hangover would that make? I especially don't want to "hangover" the veranda afterward. Is anyone staying under me? You might want to change cabins .

Welcome to cdnmickeylover. There are a few of us newcomers that weren't a part of the group last year. Keep checking this site, I already feel like I know them and can't wait to meet everybody.

Sorry to miss dvcChrisVWL..Welcome to the fold. Hope to get to know you and yours before the cruise.

Jmalk,

that sounds great! Hanging over the railing and paying your tribute to Poseidon isn't a problem for the people on the verandah below yours, but for the people aft of you ;)

cdnmickeylover,
I want say anything about you coming from "up north" again; I just checked the coordinates of Toronto"s Pearson airport and discoverd that you are about 7º South of Frankfurt (And about 80º West), which is approximately the same latitude as Sothern France or Northern Spain.

Rosemary,
I think after the return of the Cruisears-Gang our thread will become more lively. BTW, we will be offline from 09/07 til 09/21 as we will be on the wonderful island of Fuerteventura. I think we have an Internet-Cafe in the club we're staying at, but I do not intend to come close to a 'puter during my vacation.

We received our docs for our 9/28 cruise yesterday. Rosemary will we have this thread hopping after we get back. I will try and post to this thread while we are cruising to answer any questions that you might have. Mike

Lurker leaving.

Viking -- didn't realize what the coordinates for Toronto were. I guess we really aren't that far north afterall. I have to admit that after the mandatory courses in high school I never took geography again.

Hi to everyone else. Looking forward to meeting everyone and hopefully this thread will make the time pass faster. In the meantime we are planning for our trip this September. First ever stay at the All Star Sports. Am slowly working our way through all of the resorts and praying that the cdn dollar goes up rather than down!

cdnmickeylover

cdnmickeylover,

we stayed at the All Stars Movies last year and loved it!! In 99 we stayed at the Dixie Landings which is also very nice, but to be honest not worth the extrabucks as we use our room at WDW mainly for changing, showering and sleeping. The All Star Resorts are beautifully themed, have good bus connections and are a bargain - As far as you can call anything at WDW a bargain ;)
Talking about the currency exchange rate: Last year when we were in the States the Dollar was high and the Euro low - It cost us a lot of money. This year I received a bonus from my company which was given in Dollars: Now the Dollar was comparatively low and the Euro high  That's a great example for good old Murphy :(
We're hoping that the Dolar is going down until next year as this will make things easier for us. We plan on staying for three weeks in the States before the cruise, so we're really talking about Big Bucks. Every Cent the Dollar drops will pay for a good dinner or some shopping ;)

As long as the dollar is high until mid-June of next year. Then it can fall for your trip here in Sept-Oct.

Not much posting lately - family came and went so I've been trying to catch up on some chores. Also we couldn't wait til the 9/14 and 9/21 cruises so DH and I are going to spend Labor Day weekend in DC. (I can't believe I have the weekend off and my partner actually volunteered to work the holiday also.)
So we have been busy trying to plan that trip, turn it around for the 2 weeks in Fl, then turn it around again in 3 days to fly back to Fl for a wedding we are in.
I'm getting tired after just reading all the stuff we have to do in the 2 months. Well at least it's not work. I'd like to stay busy doing those kind of things instead of going to work any day.

Viking,

Are you bringing Apfelkorn? That stuff brings back memories! I think I still have an old shot glass around here that I had engraved with "Apfelkorn" (so I would not forget the name) that I got in Germany. Yup! Found it!

I really miss jägerschnitzel. And spätzle. And fries with mayo in a wax paper cone with a piece of schnitzel. And lots of other foods from Germany!

Fries with mayo! I remember getting that at a little place just outside the Frankfurt Zoo! Ah, the memories . . . :o

So, is there a limit to how many pages this post can become? Right now we are on page 19 and we still have over a year to go! Does the thread start getting cut off from the oldest posting at some point? Or will it grow like a beanstalk?

Yes Chris,
I intend to bring Apfelkorn :p

Shari,
I didn't know that you've been to Frankfurt. When, and how did you like it?
I've been to the zoo so many times I can't count it. My highschool was located just about 50 meters from the zoo main entrance (NO JOKES NOW, ROSEMARY!!! ;) ), and my Dad is a supporting member of the Frankfurt Zoological Society. They just finished building the Cat Jungle and the remodelling of the seal pool. The zoo is downsizing the number of animal, but upsizing the areas for the remaining animals,.

Rosemary there is your opening to take a shot a Eric;) Lurker leaving:wave: Mike

Viking - I make a lot of trips to Africa in my work, and often I have gone through Frankfurt and chosen to stay a bit. But that was when Lufthansa flew to Nairobi. Since they discontinued that, I have not been back to Germany.

Have to mention: Ever since I submitted my "age as of Cruisetoberfest II" to you, I have accidentally been giving that age to anyone who asks. I even did so when posting my age on another thread for a cruise coming up soon. :(

If you happen to come to Frankfurt again, consider your personal guide booked. I'm a real rarity: A native Frankfurter (Please no sausage jokes, Papa ;) ) BTW, the Frankfurters (The sausages) aren't from Frankfurt, they are from Neu Isenburg, a small town 5 miles south of Frankfurt.
If Lufthansa starts flying to Nairobi again I will be one of the first to know: My team produces the navigational charts for Lufthansa, so we have to make the charts BEFORE they fly.

A REAL FRANKFURTER! I LIKE that! :teeth:

I'd love to have a real Frankfurter as my guide! Please DO let me know if Lufthansa picks up the FRA-NBO route again, because I very much prefer Lufthansa. Besides, I'd like to build up my miles with them again since I was just shy of enough for a free trip. :p

I'm glad to hear they're still improving the zoo. I think the last photos I shot there were in late '98.
