Rosemary and Shari,

thanks for helping me getting the info from the new folks.

Jmalk,
Welcome aboard, I'm looking forward to your mail.

Rich,
I know that you're Rich, and your son is Richie!! I intended to send my regards to Richie, after I adressed you and your senior wife (I couldn't resist;) ) in the mail and having greeted you, I just added some greetings for Richie - So please pass it to him :p

Shari,
I haven't lost weight on the cruise, but after it (Had to) and I'm still working on it. Call it fighting the midlife-crisis, but I have the firm intention to be in the shape of my life on my 40th BD. I now run 5 to 10 miles 6 days a week, started boxing and badminton, still pump iron and do aerobics and changed my diet. I already lost about 20lbs and go for another 20 within the next six months.

Gee - I think I'll have to lose at least 20 pounds before Cruisetoberfest. I mean, I have at least two and maybe three cruises between now and then, and cruises mean <I>eating</I>. But since muscle weighs more than fat . . .

If you're wondering why I'm answering at this ridiculous hour (It's 2 a.m. here in Idaho) it's because I've been making thumbnail pics of the <a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/porsche/parade2002/">Porsche Parade</A> and posting them at the request of my DH. He is currently flyfishing on the Dean River in British Columbia. Oh, the luxury of leisure. I'm pretty much stuck in my home office until I do another photo shoot near the end of the month. Would sure love to be on the Magic or Wonder right now!

Nice pics, Shari.
We also have a car that is celebrated on big meetings: The new Peugeot 206 CC. It's a small convertible with a retractable hardtop (Like the Mercedes SLK) and has been introduced to the market about 18 months ago. In this time they sold 20.000 alone in Germany and we already have more than a dozen clubs doing meetings, tours, etc. It may not be as posh as Porsche, but it is a lot of fun to drive and it is very affordable - compared to one of Zuffenhausen's beauties.

Yes - I'm familiar with Peugeot! Yours sounds NICE! As I said, I'm not too much into Porsche myself. This was the first time my DH has ever done a parade or concours. As for me - I spent a lot of time hanging out the window trying to shoot pictures (at his "command"). The stiff suspension on the Porsche does NOT make for a smooth ride or steady camera!

Do you shoot digital or "conventional" pics?

Viking - All the Porsche pics were shot with my Nikon 995 digital. For my wildlife photography, I shoot 35mm (usually my Nikon N90s and a variety of lenses) because that is required by most of my buyers. But I almost <I>always</I> carry my digital. Usually on a cruise that's all I take, but I'm thinking of also taking my SLR on Cruisetoberfest. Still, digital is so much easier if one wants to post the pics on the web ;-). Plus it means not having to carry or worry about film!

Forgot to mention - One reason I prefer the digital 995 over a digital SLR is that it has a "twist" body so I can rotate it and easily photograph myself if I want to. The pic of me in the captain's hat was a self-portrait with it. And actor <a href="http://www.anthonyhopkins.org/images/40_tony4.jpg">Anthony Hopkins shot this pic of himself</A> with it. Notice how he cut off the top of his head and one eye is straight while the other is slightly to the side (looking at the LCD trying to frame himself). There is sort of a knack to these self-portraits I think!

I prefer digital photograpy, too. I started with an Olympus about 3 years ago, switched to a JVC about 2 years ago and I'm thinking of getting the Minolta Dimage7i as my next camera. Additionally I use a Kodak Weathermatic APS for underwater shots and for the beach. And then I still have my first real camera: An ancient Minolta SRT 101 from the early seventies.

BTW: Nice shot of Dr. Lecter ;) Di he get a bite of you :jester: ?

The Dimage 7i is GREAT and I have even been thinking of adding that to my collection (not that I <I>need</I> another camera. About the one and only drawback of it is the battery life, but I think its other features make up for that so it's a good choice. Funny you mention the Minolta SRT101. I used to have a Minolta SRT 102 and almost think it took better shots than my Nikons. I was doing a lot of equestrian photography at the time - shot the 1984 Olympics with it and the pics were gorgeous. I held onto it until a couple of years ago when I sold it to a guy who works for a cruise line . . but I can't recall which line. Must be having a "senior moment"! As for APS - I have a Nikon Pronea 6i and I love the panorama pics I get with it.

Viking - regarding Hopkins: No, he didn't get a bite out of me! He did shoot four pics of himself with my camera, trying to get it right. That was the first time he ever held a digital camera, and he said he would go buy one the following week. FYI - I'm not "chummy" with him or anything. I sat with him at a fundraiser for the New Heritage Theatre, of which we are both charter members/supporters.

Did you get any sleep last night Mike??

Geez, it's hard to keep up with you all. I do have some questions..

1.) How do I avoid those that will try to get me up at an ungodly hour and..dare I say it..exercise! Or do I just stay away from Viking.
2.) How do I get someone to owe me a drink:tongue:
3.) Do I really have to give my correct age?
4.) Since things weigh less in water, doesn't that mean I can eat more and not gain weight?

By the way, are there many pre teens and teens in the group?

About 4 and a half hours last night Rosemary. I have a canon D30 digital slr with the 28-135mm is lens, 420ex flash, 50mm 1.8 lens and a 5 gig mindstor to store pics on.

First 35mm camera was a topcon purchased in Vietnam and the canon ae1, minolta maxxum 7000, minolta maxxum 7, first digital was a sony f707.

Mike

The only ones who will wake you at an ungodly hour will be your teens as they come in to go to sleep! Do NOT stay away from Viking. He's actually pretty harmless and very entertaining!

2.) How do I get someone to owe me a drink:tongue:

Be very upset when someone uses your name incorrectly because that is a topic that you are sensitive about and then the offending person apologizes profusely and offers to buy you a drink but then doesn't follow through. (I remembered Dan!)
3.) Do I really have to give my correct age?
Not if that is another topic you are as super sensitive about as someone else on this thread (no names will be mentioned here!)

4.) Since things weigh less in water, doesn't that mean I can eat more and not gain weight?
YES!!

By the way, are there many pre teens and teens in the group?
Not sure yet. Too early to tell. Our older teen will not be traveling with us this time. ;) ;)

papa - Your digital SLR is super. As I said, I just like being able to take pics of myself (or me with someone else) sometimes without having to use the timer. The Maxxum 7000 was a great camera too . . another of those I had. The main reason I switched from Minolta is that every time they came out with a new model, it was also necessary to buy new lenses. I think they have since standardized their specs a bit. Also, I'll admit that Canon <I>has</I> surpassed Nikon on the 35mm scene in recent years.

jmalk - 1.) How do I avoid those that will try to get me up at an ungodly hour and..dare I say it..exercise! Or do I just stay away from Viking. - <font color=C30003>Yes, staying away from Viking might help. Unfortunately, I'm only 2 doors down from him (Just kidding, Eric!)</font>
2.) How do I get someone to owe me a drink - <font color=C30003>You'll think of something! If all else fails, buy one for someone and then they'll owe you.</font>
3.) Do I really have to give my correct age? - <font color=C30003>Yes, you DO! Remember, age is a matter of ATTITUDE. Think YOUNG, but 'fess up to be fair to those of us who did in a careless moment!</font>
4.) Since things weigh less in water, doesn't that mean I can eat more and not gain weight? - <font color=C30003>Hmm. I've never been weighed in water. Maybe that would make me feel better ;-).</font>

My standard answer is <B><I>"Old enough to know better, but too young to care"</I></B>. Unfortunately, that wouldn't fit in the available space on Viking's list!

Taswira picked up the D30 refurbished. It was only half the price of a new one. Other than finding my soul mate of 30 years, children, grandchildren and the many wonder DIS friends that is the only other time that I have been lucky in my life;)

Eric is a joke miester. Some of which can not be repeated here.;)

Rosemary are we going to see Eric in leiderhosen next year????

Well, it seems like I have all the digital experts on this cruise next year. Maybe you can help me out here then.
I have been looking at the Olympus E20N but now you've mentioned the minolta. I currently have 2 - 35mm olympus which I've been VERY happy with. (They were recommended to me by a friend whose job dealt with alot of photography.)
I have looked at Sony but I wasn't thrilled with the storage medium. DH has some extra cards that he said I could use - these would fit in the olympus but not sony.
Can you give me an opinion, if you have one, concerning options I have looked at or at other options that I should still look into. I was hoping to have the new camera for next month's cruise but unless we can find a great deal or a 'no payments for X months' I may not get my wish.

Shari & Jenny,
we usually work out in the afternoon, but if you insist we can bang at your doors -especially Shari's- when we return from one of the clubs in the wee hours and herd you to the gym :jester:

Thanks Rosemary,
for your "Don't be afraid, he only wants to play"-remark. I think I will order the Big Dipper (Hi, Kathy ;) ) to take care of you on Castaway Cay - LOL

To everyone:
I just received the info from Jmalk and will do another update this weekend. So if anybody wants to have changes incorporated or has additional info, please relay it to me until Saturday night (EST).
