Eric -- The lawyer that went to the Formula One race in Germany when asked how it was can only say -- Germany was hot, hot, hot and you know they don't have a/c!

Fiona,
we have a/c, but most people aren't very fond of it. One reason is that it consumes too much energy, the other is that often it causes a lot of health problems. In our old facility in Frankfurt we had a/c. When we moved to our brandnew facility our management took a poll, with the result that a majority of the employees were in favour of an a/c-free working place. So now we only have a/c in some training rooms and in our server-rooms where all the main-computers are located.
My car -as most of the newer cars in Germany- has not only a/c, but a fully automated one, which means that I only punch in the desired temp and the rest is handled by the computer. The last three weeks I even rode most of the time with the top down and the a/c on, kind of decadent, but cool;) Beemers, Benzes and Audis nearly all have standard-a/c and even the smaller cars usually are ordered with one. A used car without a/c is very hard to sell over here, so most people order one when they buy a new car.
Additionally buildings aren't cooled down as low as in the USA (I don't know about Canada): The rule of thumb (As recommended by our General Surgeon) is that the inside temp shouldn't be more than 12 to 17ºF below outside temp. So at temps in the 100s we usually still have about 85ºF inside, which makes many foreigners believe we haven't got any a/c at all.

Good afternoon!

Here's an update to the excursions we've all booked so far. I thought it would be nice to be able to keep an eye out for members of our group doing the same activities that we are doing.

Don't be surprised when you're in the water at Castaway Cay and some nice German starts throwing rare steaks in your direction. It shall just help you find some company to play with :teeth:

WOW, we just got or electric back on! We were without it for 3 hours.

Please keep all of our Northeast friends in mind as they try to make it home!

Tulirose-I miss you baby!

Dan

Hope all of the east coasters including Ohio and Canada have their power returned soon...luckily, most of PA (including us, get our power from a different power grid than the Niagara grid) so we have power. We had to check our emergency generators before I left work "just in case"... can't leave the hospital without power. We weren't affected at all.

Scootersmom...add us to the list in Cozumel...we are doing the Tulum ruins. Add us to the Key West list: Key West on their own...us!!

Dan--- Glad you got your power back on! Our house was only down for about 15 minutes, but DD's was out for 5 hours, we had her and the baby here in the a/c. Hot as blazes in their 3rd story apartment with no fans or a/c. They were going to sleep in our spare bedroom, but now don't need to. Don's workplace is still without power and so is our son-in-law's work.

Mary Jo--- Will add your plans to the list! Is this the weekend you leave for Vermont?

Welcome to Shirley and family! Glad you are joining us!

Cell phone list--- I am collecting cell phone numbers from anyone that has one and wants to share numbers to keep in touch during the cruise, in case of who-knows-what. :jester: Email or pm me if you'd like your number added and a list of the numbers emailed to you. I think I still owe an update to that list from before Josh and I went on vacation!

Eric & Anja--- A slightly belated, but sincere congrats on your 10th anniversary! Sounds like you had a good time and I bet Anja was not too upset over not following the agreement of no gifts this year. We will be celebrating our 10th on September 25th.

Amy--- Hope your knee is feeling better. I bet you were shook up worrying about poor Emily possibly getting hurt. Glad she was ok.

Hope the Twins are having a great time in Florida!

Mike--- I was able to view the Baltimore pics from Netscape. Great pics and nice to put some more faces to names.

Reneé-- Thanks for the directions to the HRC's!

Here's hoping that all our DIS friends have their power back soon and everyone made it home safely today.

Colleen

What we could do is post tons so when Rosemary does get back she'll have TONS to read.
All I could think of was poor Rich having to walk home from work again.

Jeff,

I sent a copy of your post to George at work so hopefully he will have time to work on your problem tomorrow. His office mate was hit by the latest worm-virus though and has been quite busy helping him re-build. Keep your fingers crossed that he'll find time.

Nancy

Ok, time to nap. I was hoping to get at least 6 hours of sleep tonight but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Oh, I dream that someday I'll have a full night's sleep real soon.

Hi Everyone, Rellingtwin made it to Fl safe and sound. But did have some car trouble. :( Looking like a BIG repair bill. But so glad to have her here.
Hope all our friends in the Northeast are doing OK.
Want to finish this post fast cause puter is acting strange tonight. Get bumped off without warning.
See you all soon
Later, Ave

Hi, my name is Lisa and I just registered with these boards. I assume this is the thread for the October 11, 2003 cruise? We will be cruising the Magic to the Western Caribbean.

We were cruising 4 years ago on (don't remember the name of the ship) but it was 3 days in Disney and then the 4 day cruise, also in October.

We just booked our cruise and we are so excited. There will be 9 of us total going...me, DH, our 4 kids, my mom, my dad, and my brother.

My family (me, DH and kids) will be driving down. Any tips to offer me or a good hotel to stay at the night before.

I'm so excited!! :Pinkbounc

Eric why waste good Steaks....... just ask the Galley for a bit of Brood from the food they defrost..... lets be honest if you were a Shark what would you want to eat Mike and Art or those steaks...................... :jester: :jester: :jester:

Hi the 9 of you Lisa, DH, our 4 kids, your mom, your dad, and your brother. welcome to our Crew..... you should send a mail to eric with all your details and he will update our lists and provide you with all info. The email address is cruisetoberfest2@yahoo.com.

to all you who had power outages we are sorry........... Here in Europe it is had to get a power outage and we do try but because the power companies have a huge european network if we lose a area they switch it to pull power from the next area or country... the last Major power outage germany had was years and years ago in Berlin since it was not part of that network (It is now ;) ) ... and it was for a total of 2 hours...

Jeff,
isn't it nice to have light just by the flip of switch :p
Perhaps our American friends just wanted to start energy saving and overdid it a bit :jester:
No more kidding: I just hope than no-one of our friends is affected too adversely by it, like being stuck in an elevator or in the subway. I hope that you're all powered up again soon.

Well I'm back at work, power was restored at 2:00a.m., looks like we should still get to do our Columbus trip this weekend.

Better try to get some people in here to work on their day off.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to Lisa and her crew!!!

Lisa, we're a talkative group, but don't be intimidated by that. A lot of us have been chatting for months, but we welcome all newcomers. If you send Eric your information, you will be added to our list and get all the updates of our plans.

It's going to be a GREAT cruise.

Lisa...welcome to our fun group...I see you are from Missouri and we spent a week there in June in your great state...loved it..we stayed in Branson but travelled everywhere from St. Louis to Kansas City!! Truly enjoyed our stay there!!

Scootersmom..yes, we are leaving for Vermont shortly...Sam worked last night so he will sleep in the car while I drive and Sarah navigates!! It will be interesting to see how the power outages affected the part of NY we go through. Feel sorry for those people trying to catch flights from any of the affected cities since the flights will probably be backed up from the outage. Most of PA had power except out by Erie, PA. so we were extremely lucky. You never realize how much you need electricity until you don't have it. Nice to see how everyone pulled together and there were no major problems.

Will meet bettemom and Kim on this trip so looking forward to that. Talk to everyone when we get back. Mary Jo
