We are going on our very first trip to DW in May! We have not told our kids yet b/c we just want it to be the biggest surprise ever! They are dd (7yr), ds (5yr), and dd (1yr). Oh my goodness, i'm so excited! :)

I have a few CRT questions for you.
We made dinner ADRs for CRT. Just wondering if little kids wear costumes more often than not or if they are usually just in park attire.

If you took your child to CRT and had them dress up, did you feel like it added to the experience enough to make it worth going back to the hotel to change or lugging the outfits around?
If you did have your children dress up, did you also dress in more dressy clothes?

Will my 1 yr old also get a wand? Using the DDP, I know she doesn't get her own meal, which is fine... but I am hoping she'll still get a wand. I know she won't really play with it yet but i'd love to have it for her baby box.

And last but not least, I have a food question. This really is for any of the disney restaurants, not just CRT. Can you substitute foods? Like if you don't like broccoli, can you request something else or if you would rather have Prime Rib with ajus rather than the Cabernet Sauce, can you ask for that or is that frowned upon? Just curious. :)

Thanks for your help!

I've done breakfast there, not dinner, but quite a few girls (including our DD2) were in princess dresses. Our boys (DS2 and DS3) were also dressed up (Peter Pan and Jack Sparrow, respectively), but were probably some of the few who did.

We let them stay in costume all day, but had changes of clothes ready for them if they got too hot, etc. I wore a nicer shirt over my t-shirt and then just took it off afterwards.

All children, reagrdless of whether or not they're "paying", get the wishing star and a wand or a sword.

I haven't tried, myself, but I've seen reports that generally you can swap out items for equivalent items on the menu. Having something specially prepared that's not regularly on the menu probably isn't likely, unless it's an allergy issue.

There are some exceptions -- if you're getting one of the "chef's menu" meal, such as the ones at Le Cellier or Chefs de France, there are absolutely no substitutions allowed, not even swapping sides.

a few of the questions. We have only done lunch - 3 times. Until recently dinner did not have the princesses at the meal.

Some kids dress up and some do not. It's close to 50-50. Generally our daughter puts on her dress an hour or so before the meal. This past trip she had a BBB appointment so it was like two hours. That gives her a time to go around as a princess. We have not changed our clothes for a meal but you're likely to see this a bit more at dinner.

I believe my daughter gets more enjoyment from being dressed up. This past trip she was dressed as Ariel and Ariel was at the meal. (I have pictures but am restraining myself from putting them in the post.) We usually rent a locker for the dress when not in use. I think most of the dresses are pretty durable.

Your one year old should get a wand like her older sister.

As for the food, you can, and should if it's what you want, make requests. CRT tends to be pre-plated. Requests may slow you meal but they come out pretty quickly. More importantly the question is whether they have the ingredients on hand. With a limited menu not everything is available and the jus may be used in the sauce or reserved for another location. Ask; there's no harm in doing so.

^^^ When we went to for dinner CRT last June the kiddos didn't get dressed up. We all wore casual matching Mickey themed outfits. Next time DD wants to dress up in a princess outfit. I doubt DS would want to dress up as he prefers to be comfortable vs. being dressed up. We'll just go casual. My DN went last month and she brought her DD's outfit to the park, had her changed in the bathroom then headed over to BBB before her appointment there.

When we went dinner didn't showcase the princesses, only the Fairy Godmother and the Mice (Susie and Pearla). Now dinner will have all the princesses too.

All the children in your party will get a wand or a sword (depending on gender). It doesn't matter whether or not they paid for the meal.

Finally, you can request substitutions if you wish. They'll let you know if they can accommodate your requests. The only exception might be if you are on the dining plan. I know there are instances where you can't make any substitutions.

Hope you have a great time! :goodvibes

Planning for our first trip at the end of the year and I was talking to a friend at work about CRT. He mentioned the kids getting swords and wands.

I can say with almost absolute certainly that my daughter would much prefer getting a sword to a wand. Is that going to be a problem?

Thanks,

Been to breakfast and dinner. Would say that at both times at breakfast about 20% of girls dressed up. Put my DD in a cinderella t shirt the first time which made her happy and saved me carrying the dress afterwards.

At dinner more like 80% dressed up to be honest.

They are fairly good at swapping food. My DD is very picky and last trip they noticed that she had eaten very little of her starter and offered to get her another one. With entree she didn't like whatever pasta it was served with and the server said she could get a plain dish if she preferred. on that occasion we didn't go to the trouble but this time around we will ask.

Don't think they will swap a jus but they will happily omit it.

Wand and sword and wishing star definitely ok for all kids. When we went for breakfast in 2007 we had booked for four but that morning my son was ill. The server went to the trouble of sending my daughter back to the resort with a sword and star for DS so that he wouldn't be disappointed.

Also last trip we heard a little boy asking for a wand like his sister. They swapped his sword with no problem at all.

When we went in 2008 my 10 month old got a wand and wishing star. On another note, since I don't think anyone mentioned it, at CRT your 1 year old will also be brought out "toddler" food. I think at lunch it was buttered noodles. There is no charge. They also get the dessert and a drink. This applied to our almost 3 year old in 2006 also.

My 10 month old son also got a sword and wishing star. We went in Sept 2009. He also got the pasta, and it was during lunch.

So, just to recap, several princesses now appear at dinner? My DD loves them and if we would only get to see Cindy, she would be disappointed. Which princesses have been seen at dinner? My DD's fave is Ariel by far and I know the Grotto will be closed while we are there so that would be a bonus, although I know they don't guarantee anyone being present.

TIA!

Oh, how was the food at dinner? I've read the menus and it seems like a better value. Does it include appetizers and desserts?:goodvibes

We were just there March 23, 2010 for our son's 5th birthday. He was dressed as a pirate since he did Pirate's League that morning. Although only make-up and bandana. His clothes were a polo and shorts - normal clothes. About half the girls were dressed for the dinner when we were there. None of the boys were dressed up that I can remember. Sorry, I can't speak about substituting food since we didn't really ask.

At our dinner, Cinderella greeted at the door. Belle in her blue dress, Aurora, Snow White and Jasmine came to the tables.

We told our son that we were going to Disney but not what we were doing there. I had the pleasure of telling him, as we checked in, that we were eating dinner at the Castle. His face was something I'll never forget.

Enjoy!! It's a wonderful experience.

PS as I'm typing this, a Disney World commercial came on. I got teary eyed thinking about how much fun we had and how much I want to go back.

Thanks! I'm so glad you had a good time. We are going 5/25 and haven't told our children yet. I'll wait til the tickets come in the mail, but I'll probably wait until that day to tell the about dinner at the Castle! Yay!
