CRT on DDP?

I keep reading that CRT is a bad use of dining credits and that it's better to pay oop, and I just cannot understand why. When I did the math, it came to just under $190 for myself, my husband, and our 4 year old (and 1 year old, but that doesn't matter) to eat there, including tip. since the tip is included with the ddp credits at CRT (if I'm not mistaken?), then I think using 2 credits makes sense for us. Another meal we are doing, for example, Tusker House breakfast, would cost $79ish plus tip to be paid oop, and is considered a good use of one credit, so why is CRT, which costs significantly more than twice as much including tip, considered a bad use of 2? Is my logic faulty?

CRT Dinner is an exception to that "rule". As you've noticed, the cost is roughly twice (or more) than the cost of a single credit meal elsewhere (or rather, the cost is higher than two other single credit meals elsewhere). (Lunch may also apply, but I haven't done the math for that.)

allearsnet lists $71.83 as the highest price for dinner at CRT and this includes the tax and tip. $35 per credit is the "break even" price point for the DDP right now (I think it's a little higher with the new pricing). So, for an adult, you're right at the break even point if you're going during the higher seasonal pricing. The regular pricing of $66.96 means you're actually "losing" a couple dollars each.

However, for kids, the highest price is $43.24, so they are making out like bandits on this one by using the DDP credits. And that's one reason your's looks better to use credits.

I'm stumped on what to do for this one too. Breakfast is around $45 correct?

It would be possible, but you don't want to do that. You want to use credits for the 5 yr old as the price for them is almost equal to a day's (or 2 days') cost for the DDP. You probably want to pay OOP for the adults, especially for breakfast. The cost for adults during normal season is $53, so you're losing almost $20 value per adult if using DDP. However, the cost for kids is $34 and the cost for them for one whole day on DDP is around $18.

I called and made the reservation because of this, I gave them my reservation number and wasn't charged. I think I still had to give my card info in case we don't show.

Was the card charged for the full meal price when you made the reservation? Or was the info just taken?

If you weren't charged, then there's nothing further to do. They will take the information and charge (for the full cost) if you cancel with less than 24 (or is CRT 48?) hours before the ADR, or if you simply don't show.

If you were charged, then you can call Disney Dining and see about getting them to modify the reservation to include the dining plan. This would refund the card right away. Be sure that they modify the ADR here and do not attempt to cancel and rebook! You may get a CM who says they cannot do this, if that's the case, politely hang up and try again. Alternatively, you can wait until you are dining and have them use the DDP instead. This is typically "safer" and easier, but ties the cost of the meal up for several months.

Thank you both! When I called to make the reservation I told the CM we would be on the dining plan and did give her our resort confirmation number. I was not charged on the cc I gave to secure the reservation. Do we have to tell the CM at check in at CRT that we are on the dining plan or is it basically taken care of already?

They will ask again. Just let them know again and you're all good to go!
