So I just had to post after our recent trip. It was our first visit to CRT...I was sooo excited now that I finally have a girl I had an excuse to take the family! My boys actually did just fine;)...but the food was one of the worst meals of the trip!!

Don't get me wrong...the castle was beautiful and a really neat experience...and the princesses really loved on my DD...but what a dissapointment with the food...and if I had actually paid and didn't have free dining I would have been really upset.

I order the hen I think it was? blah...so bland and tasted like it came out of the microwave...the appetizers selection was bad too...who wants funky cheeses (and small amounts too). I get that they are trying to be more "elegant" there with their food...but we all left just not satisfied. Every other one table service meal was better.

Okay..enough of my rant. Just wanted to share our experience....and while the experience was sweet...we won't be back for the food!

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. I have been to CRT twice but only at breakfast. The food is okay, nothing to write home about, but definitely not terrible. Thank goodness, now that my DD is older we don't have to spend DDP credits there anymore. She prefers Akershus anyways, as they usually have her favorite princess, Ariel, there.

You aren't paying for the food at CRT, you are paying for the experience. My recommendation - do breakfast first thing in the morning.

Thanks for sharing b/c I going back and forth with this one and I'm paying for our DxDDP. What did your kids have?

I completely agree. This is my post on another thread.

Ate at the castle last Sunday night. This was our 3rd visit for dinner (4 visits total including breakfast). Not only did the menu change, but the food was AWFUL. DD ordered the "fried chicken" (more like roasted chicken), DH/DS/and I ordered the Roasted Beef Tenderloin. There was nothing tender about it. Dry, dry, dry. Desserts were mediocre. The only thing we enjoyed was the Shrimp Cocktail and Cheese apps. What a disappointing waste of 2 credits. Sad since we've always enjoyed dinner there. The experience caused us to end up cancelling our Thurs breakfast. We won't be going back anytime soon. :sad2:

This.. While the food wasnt anything to write home about, it wasnt horrible, at least breakfast wasnt.

UGHHH I hate seeing this and the seeing the new menu. My DD picked this restaurant and I so wish I could convince her to switch it but she has her little heart set on it. We haven't been to CRT yet so I am going with it but I am still :scared1: over the price and the new menu.

This is the exact reason i canceled our dinner at the castle. Yes is would be sweet on our honeymoon, but we much rather have some good food we can eat!

We will go back when we have children, hopefully by then the menu will be better.

Always has been, always will be. :confused3

Dining at CRT is about dining in the castle. You do it once to say you did it and you do it again if you really liked the atmosphere. You eat what you can and pick up a hot dog later if you get hungry.

I've never actually had an awful meal there, but I've never gone in expecting a good one either.

We loved the meal at CRT we had about 2 weeks ago. Both DH & I had some sort of Beef thing and it was delicious. Our girls loved their food too. We will definitely be going back.

and if I had actually paid and didn't have free dining I would have been really upset.

If you think WDW gave you free food, you are mistaken. The restaurants get paid the same amount of money during "free dining". WDW is taking a hit on your theme park tickets or your room, but the restaurants are getting their money. If the food was really an issue, than you should be very unhappy. The food was paid for. Never forget that you paid rack-rate for your room!

My point in expressing this is because I have seen several people excuse bad service and/or food with the same sentiment as you: "If this wasn't free, I would be really upset". It wasn't free--that is just the way the promotion is worded to make you feel like it's a big bargain or because it really is a deep discount on your package.

What a shame...it looks like they changed the menu when they started having the princesses at dinner instead of just the fairy godmother and the mice.

The salad I *loved* is gone! :sad1:

And the chicken dish I liked is no longer there either.

Back in the 90s, the food was actually really good. When breakfast became super popular in the early 00s, the food at breakfast was still pretty good, but not all that great. I loved it, but I admit I was the exception.

Now I still like the food at breakfast, but don't love it. It's become a once-every-four-or-five-years sort of meal. I remember ten years ago the adult breakfast was still $15.99 plus tax - *vastly* under-priced. Now it has nearly tripled, and still full every morning.

Can't speak to dinner, as I've never had it there. There's probably an odd duck like me out there somewhere who loves the food at dinner as well.

We had Thanksgiving dinner there last year, traditional turkey meal, was pretty good, service was excellent. Had breakfast there this past Sept & it was fabulous albeit expensive. There was only a couple strawberries in the fruit bowl so we asked for more & they brought out another bowl of fruit for each of us. DD wanted another croissant & they brought out a whole plate of croissants that we wound up taking with us. Grandson didn't get a cinnaman roll off the pastry platter so they brought more of those too. The boys wanted more bacon and sure enough they brought out a big plate of that too. So I certainly can't complain it was all delish.

I'm confused--your first sentence, "Always has been, always will be."--you seem to be agreeing about the food being awful. Then, in your last sentence, you say that you have never actually had an awful meal there. Which is it?

I had lunch there last year and actually enjoyed the food. While it wasn't the best, it certainly wasn't awful. Although, with the new menu change, we'll have to see what happens when we go this December. Crossing my fingers!

Such a shame. Our experience last year for dinner, before the Princesses invaded, was fantastic. However, I see the lamb is off the menu as is the prime rib. I am glad we have been there, done that and had a wonderful time. Not likely to be back until I am the Grandma.

Blessed With Triplets, what other table service dinners did you have, Im curious. Thanks!:cool1:

I would agree that the food did leave a little something to be desired, I also had the "fried" chicken without any seasoning! haha.. My fiancee LOVED the mac and cheese that came with it though! He had a fish dish that he really liked! We loved the apps...shrimp cocktail and cheeses were good. My mom did say the beef was a little dry, but my sister had a delicious vegetarian dish, but it was super tomatoey! But I agree with the other poster that said it is the experience! I would def. do it again just for that experience! We might try breakfast next time we go!! To OP sorry you didn't enjoy it! I read on here that the food was a little bland so I went in expecting that, so I wasn't really disappointed! I hope it gets better and you can give it another chance in the future!:goodvibes

Although pricey for a breakfast meal, breakfast was pretty good. They brought a plate of assorted pastries to the table and a bowl of fresh, cut mixed fruit. Then you had a choice of three breakfast entrees: stuffed french toast, or a yogurt, fruit and granola platter, or a traditional platter with eggs, bacon, potatoes.

The food was fresh and it was all you can eat.

To be honest, based on the reviews I have read previously, I would hesitate to try CRT for lunch or dinner. However, if CRT is a must, I would recommend breakfast.

Sorry the OP didn't have a good meal - we had the opposite experience. We ate at CRT for dinner a little over a month ago & we thought the food was very good - the beef tenderloin was absolutely fantastic! We had always done breakfast at CRT in the past - from now on, we will probably be eating there for dinner.
