CRT dinner questions

I currently hold a breakfast reservation and a dinner reservation at CRT during our spring break trip at the end of March. The trip is in part a celebration of my birthday (yay!!).

Help me decide which ADR to keep Here are the questions:

1. Will they do anything special if I tell them it’s my birthday and how do I let them know it’s my birthday?
2. DS, age 11, is a picky eater. Will they let him order a bigger portion from the kids menu?
3. If you’ve eaten bfast and dinner at CRT, which experience has the better food?

I'll answer with what I know

1. This seems to vary with servers. They usually do something a little special, make sure to note it on the reservation. Simply call Disney dining and have them add that you will be celebrating something special on this particular ADR. It also would not hurt for someone to mention it to your server if it seems that it was missed.

2. Not sure...we had a 1 1/2 year old and a 6 year old who are human garbage disposals!

3. We did an earlier dinner and absolutely loved it. Our server was amazing and attentive! He brought my 6 year old a special dessert and the princesses doted on her.

I'll answer based on our experiences last year when we celebrated my DS 10th birthday. We went the day after his birthday (mostly for his little sister and grandma who was along for the trip but since it was his birthday trip, I wanted to make it special).

1. We told them when I made the reservation that it was his birthday but even better, I read on here that they would do a special dessert if I called the CRT special events line. It's (407) 824-4477. They were great and it was so easy! Everything was over e-mail after the first call. I got him the chocolate crown dessert. It's an edible crown made of chocolate, filled with chocolate mousse covered with a raspberry glaze and served with seasonal berries on the side. And they wrote "Happy Birthday Prince (name)" on the edge of the plate. It was an additional $15 but it was adorable, delicious and made him feel really special so it was well worth it! They have a chocolate glass slipper dessert too which is the same price and very popular.

2. Yes! We were on deluxe dining plan at the time and the kids were allowed to get adult sized portions of any meal on the kids menu. My kids were 10, 6 and 2 at the time. My 6 year old got an adult sized portion of the chicken fingers and it was more than enough to feed him and his little sister. And the cheese and grapes appetizer was huge! They both couldn't finish it. My 10 year old doesn't eat meat so they didn't have a kids meal option for him but they absolutely would have made a kids meal adult sized for him if he had wanted that. Since your DS is 11 and already considered a Disney adult, I am sure they would make him an adult sized portion of the kids meal.

3. I do agree with others that mentioned that the food is not the star here. We've had both breakfast and dinner over the years. Breakfast is more mainstream and seemed like a lot of money for what it was. Dinner was fine, but definitely not the best signature we had. That being said, I'd keep the dinner reservation. Dinner is more relaxed. We felt less rushed and the princesses all came by twice (except Snow White who floated by the second time). At breakfast it just seemed busier and since we had a late breakfast reservation, I felt like they were trying to hurry us out. And there is something so regal about having a dinner celebration in the castle! We really enjoyed our dinner there.

When we dined there a few years ago DD, who was 10 at the time, was allowed to order an adult portion of chicken from the kids menu.

Be sure to pick up a birthday button from the hotel lobby when you arrive and wear it to your reservation. You might get a little extra pixie dust . Hope you have a wonderful birthday!!!

I was allowed to get waffles even though they are on the kids menu. The server was beyond okay with it. She even just added them as a side to my meal and not a substitution. She also offered a serving of them to every adult at our table.
