Hi all - I was trying to use the search engine, but not having much luck. I was wondering if anyone's figured out the breakdown of the CRT costs and the results for TIW. I tried to do that this afternoon, but I couldn't get my numbers to square up.

Here's the setup - I had dinner at CRT on 12/4/10 and using a TIW card the cost came out to $50.08. I looked up the current CRT cost (for a mid-January date) and the total without TIW would be $59.68.

Based on the following breakdown for a one person reservation (from the Disney reservation site when you book CRT):
Sub-Total = $48.99
Tax = $3.19
Tip = $7.50
Total = $59.68

Now, it's stated that there is an 18% gratuity automatically figured in, so with the tip amount known, I think the tippable food amount is:
$7.50 = (Tipped Food)*18% => Tipped Food = $7.50/18% = $41.67

So then, the remainder of the sub-total cost must be the photo ($7.32).

Then the total cost for food (food + tax + tip) is $51.88
Total Food =$41.67 + $2.71 +$7.50
And the total cost of the photo (photo + tax) is $7.80
Total Photo = $7.32 + $0.48
This then matches the amount charged to the credit card ($59.68)
Total Cost = $51.88 + $7.80

Now here is where the math stops matching. For one person, using the TIW card:
TIW Food = Tipped Food * 80% (because TIW gets a 20% discount)
TIW Food = $41.67 * 80% = $33.34
With that value known, the new tip and tax can be determined
TIW Tip = $33.34 * 18% = $6.00
TIW Tax = $33.34 * 6.5% = $2.17

So the total cost for the food is $41.51
Total Food = $33.34 + $6.00 + $2.17
The photo package is the same ($7.80)
The new total cost is $49.31, which is slighly less than what I paid in December ($50.08 per person).

Any ideas where the extra costs could be coming from? Though, being off by less than a $1 is probably close enough for most planning purposes.

You are a glutton for punishment, and my eyes glazed over somewhere about 2/3 through, but did you account for the fact that the tip is based on the non-discounted amount for the food? I saw somewhere you said "new tip and tax" but it doesn't work that way. You pay the 18% tip amount on the food price BEFORE the TiW discount.

Thanks - I had missed that the TIW tip is based on the pre-discounted total food cost.

I updated my numbers and now I'm over by about $0.75 per person. I can't quite get it to match, but I think I'm in the ball park.

I'm hoping you mean a glutton for numerical punishment and not that I'm going to get flamed for this post! I'm an engineer by training...I like math...what can I say...

LOL - yes, that's what I meant! I try not to do any extra math if I don't have to! For something like CRT w/the TiW discount, I just gulped hard when I paid it, and smiled big when we got our credit back! :rotfl: Best for me just not to think about it too hard!
