Hello- I had been thinking of taking my now 5 year old to DisneyLand next year...our main interest being Cars Land and the classic Disney rides (Peter Pan, Small world, etc)..he is not so into Star Wars yet...so now I am wondering if there will be a huge difference in crowd size the week of May 19th this year vs same week next year due to Star Wars being open? I am guessing many people are holding off on planning a trip until Star Wars is open....Is it worth trying to throw together a last minute trip now with the hopes of lower crowds or do you think by this time next year the crowd level will not be significantly different?
Thanks in advance!

In May 2020 SW:GE will have been open for a year, and in theory RotR will have been open at least a few months, and you will have the recent or impending opening of Marvel/Superhero Land in DCA.

If it’s open, that Spider-Man ride could increase crowds to DCA but might actually decrease the rush to RSR in Cars Land a little.

Really, it doesn’t matter much. If you are worried about crowds, the best thing to do is to figure out when you will be able to spend the most time at the parks. Because time (along with a bit of planning/knowledge) is the real antidote to crowds.

If you’d feel too rushed trying to pull it together now, just do it next year.

If you’re really ok with waiting the year, it may be your best bet. There is so much last minute work happening for project Stardust in preparation for SWGE that will be going right up until the last second. As a 5 year old boy, your son could probably care less about construction walls & the castle being covered up. I know it wouldn’t have impacted my son much at that age. But, as a mother planning your child’s trip, you want it to be magical. Things like construction walls blocking your view, or not being able to get the classic castle picture could really be disappointing. Although they’ll probably be some construction next May, it shouldn’t be nearly as much. That stuff might not matter to you, but I’m pointing it out in case it does.

The true DL fanatic in me wants to tell you to do both! There is no better way to celebrate a DL trip then to plan another DL trip as soon as humanely possible! Of course, I’ve been told I’m a bit obsessed & most likely I should seek professional help.

I’d go now because there are a lot of unknowns coming with SWL. The ticket deals are very good right now too. I would not expect a similar deal next year.

Grab that ticket and deal and go now! The parks will only keep getting busier & more expensive until the next economic downturn & who knows how that will hit you? The great part about DLR is you can plan a great trip at the last minute!
