Crowds President’s Day

WDW vet who has not been to Disneyland in 20 years. Kids ages 7 and 5 are begging to go to Disneyland this year. The kids have off of school a few days around Presidents‘ Day and we are considering a trip to CA and two days at Disneyland. How crowded will it be? We are used to navigating fairly crowded times at WDW, but would only have 2 days at Disneyland. Is it worth it or would be better off trying to plan a Disneyland trip for summer? Thanks!

I went Fri-Sun this year and it wasn’t bad at all. Friday was definitely the most crowded. Saturday and Sunday were much better due to AP blockouts. Also I assume many locals are busy doing other things due to the long weekend.

Nope, not too bad. We get some crowds but honestly, summer is worse. We always go on President's Day weekend as my husband's birthday falls around the same time.

I think the biggest issue can be more rides down for refurb during this time of year. However there is no way to know the refurb schedule this far in advance.

How about the rest of Presidents' Day week? DD's school is on a balanced calendar (aka year-round school) and she has a break that whole week. We went in early February 2017 (when she was still in preschool), really liked the low crowds, and didn't mind the rain at all. If we arrived on Sunday or President's Day and stayed the rest of the week, would we still see low February crowds? Or is it popular to have that whole week off out west?

I went to Disneyland this past Presidents day. It was me and my Fiance's first time to Disneyland, but we are WDW vets. It was a lot of fun! I didn't find the crowds too unmanageable. We did the maxpass on our phones since we had no idea where the fastpass ticket areas were. It also was helpful with getting fast passes for rides that had no more paper fast passes. It's really easy to walk back and forth between the two parks, we did park hoppers and crisscrossed all day. It was freezing cold when we were there, but we are from Florida so the cold feels colder to us. I would pick a colder day over a super hot day so I'd do this over summer. Some rides might be closed for refurbishment, they do that during the off season. We lucked out and didn't have much closed while we were there.

Have fun!

There are schools in UT or AZ that have the whole week off. (I can't remember which State) The last two years we've gone around Presidents' Day, and it can get crowded, but I still prefer it over summer and holiday crowds.

The Tuesday after President’s Day in 2017 is one of the craziest days I’ve ever seen. Security lines stretched to Harbor before the park opened, and all the closures inside kept the crowds concentrated so much that it was insane. I felt very bad for the people I talked to who had planned visits thinking it would be “empty because it’s a weekday in February.” Also the hours were short.

That year (2017) the Friday before was pouring rain and it was empty (they closed early, Main Street was flooded), but this year, the Friday before was pretty crowded... so a lot depends on weather and refurbs and it’s pretty unpredictable.
