Crowds on MLK weekend?

We're new to the club and thinking up trip ideas. What have members' experiences been with crowds on Martin Luther King weekend? We're always walking that tightrope of avoiding crowds but not missing too much school.

Weekends are genearlly busier year round. Weekends around school vacations tend to be even more so.

The DVC resorts usually reflect this with higher occupancy. MK is always busier, but all parks will be busy.

We were there last year at that time and didn't find the crowds to bad at all...

We were there last year, arriving on Sunday and leaving on Friday and didn't find the crowds bad at all. Of course, last year was an exceptional year after 9/11.

However, the past several years I have been at WDW all or part of MLK weekend and crowds were not overwhelming. Most of the time we've stayed at OKW. This year we'll be at BWV.

I'll be down there over MLK weekend also! 3 nights at BCV and 1 night at VWL. Can't wait!

I'm sure that any size crowds will seem small to me, since I'm normally tied to peak times to go to WDW (Easter, Christmas). By comparison, MLK weekend will seem positively tranquil! Well, anyway, I hope so!

I know that I should know this, but when is MLK weekend? We're staying at WLV in February, and I'm wondering if we'll be there then. I'm willing to take on the extra crowds if I get extra park hours in return.

This year, MLK actual "day" falls on January 20th. We have been several years for that weekend - low points AND low crowds. If you are commando-park types, though, (we are not) be aware that parks close early during that time of year. I am going again this year, taking my 82-year-old mom and staying at the Beach Club Villas. Staying Jan. 17 - 22. Can't wait!!!

MLK weekend is our annual Drinking Around the World trip - last year was average for a holiday weekend. Most popular attractions had lines - nothing too major. I will say this though = DVC's with the exception of OKW are mostly booked up. Nothing except OKW had the Sunday available in any type of unit - as of last week calling). I'm not sure what's left at OKW. We're BCV & VWL owners and couldn't get in given less than 7 mos out.

We checked CRO and rooms were available at the resorts, but that was a month or so ago. We haven't had any news from the waitlist - we're waitlisted at BWV and BCV.
