Crowds New Years Day??

Does anyone have first hand experience regarding the crowds New Years Day?

Should we avoid the parks altogether, or is there another strategy??

HUGE crowds! We were at WDW Jan. 2003, we said if we ever went back at that time we would avoid the parks. On days we know we should avoid the parks we end up at Epcot, have dinner at WS.

Thanks, hopefully crowds will decrease after the first. I think I will avoid the parks that day!

We had EE at MK on NY day 2004. It worked great! Lots of people were "hanging" as we walked on rides until about 1 PM. Then, the masses came...

Best bet is to do the early park that day and leave. Really. It was great. We had enough by 1, and let everyone else deal with the crowds. Did everything we wanted to. As the week progressed, many of the people left too....

We were at MK first thing in the morning January 1, 2000. The park was empty!!!! It was amazing. We usually go in September so we are used to "relative emptiness" in the parks but this was something else! It picked up around lunchtime but the morning was fabulous.

Don't feel that you have to avoid the parks on New Years Day. Jan 1, 2003 and Jan 1, 2004 we headed to Epcot early, thinking that it's a nice large park that can easily absorb the crowds. We were right, and it didn't feel crowded at all. We even got a walk-in table for lunch at Biergarten in 2003. Since we were interested in getting an early night on NYE, we spent Dec. 31 both years at AK - not very crowded since there are no evening activities. MK, however, always felt crowded over the NY period, and in fact at one point in Frontierland, when both Splash and Big Thunder broke down at once, it was complete gridlock.
