First trip to DL, did WDW in 2003.

We have booked a trip to DL arrive Dec 31 and depart Jan 7.

Doing the parks Jan 1 to 6

What are the crowds going to be like at this time?

How many days would you suggest at DL and DCA?

Recommendations for other attractions - thinking Universal for a day. (Kids are 11 and 14 and we are big ride people).

Thanks

i will be going the 5th-10th, so i wonder i those days will be crowded too.....i did however been to disney world the 3rd-10th and it could have not been any more empty. only thing to factor in is the 50th...

New Years Eve & Day is like Christmas-extremely crowded, but after that it gets back to being off-season and is nice. :)

CA schools will be out this week, and people expect it will be busy. In addition, the Rose Bowl will be on Jan 4, as opposed to the typical Jan 1, and many out-of-state types will be in town and some will go to DL. You should easily be able to thoroughly see DL and DCA during this time. If you want to see fireworks, shows, and parades, I would say four days would be enough for DL and DCA. Especially if you make an extra effort to get to the parks early and get a lot done before crowds set in.

If you have never been to USH, or have not been there for a long time, I would recommend it. We spent a day there in 2004 with our kids (ages 9-14). But only one day is needed for USH. And I would recommend making the USH rides a secondary priority. The movie sets and stage tours are much more fun and unique. The rides at USH are so-so, especially compared to DLR.

My DD's birthday is January 11th, she had her birthday "party" a few times at DL because the parks are empty. The only drawback is it can be pretty cold, even during the day the high might only be in the low 60's. Have a fabulous time :flower:

A great time to go. We were there that time 2 years and did not have to deal with very many crowds at all. Even with the 50th anniversary going on, things have not been that bad. Disney has added so many new things that there is so much to see and do that the crowds have not seemed that bad to me. They have even added a talking trash can!!!

Normally I'd go with the majority opinion and say crowds should be really light then... but I'm sorry to say, I think I'm with HydroGuy on this one.

I know several AZ school districts are also taking off the first week of Jan. 2006. Disneyland is a pretty quick, easy trip for us. I know quite a few families headed to DL that week.

I would just expect it to be a bit more crowded than you think it should be that week. I'm guessing it still won't be anywhere nearly as crazy as it is the week between Christmas and New Years (especially NYE)
We have gone then and still are able to do everything we want to - just have to plan a bit better and spread things out over more days so you can take much needed breaks from the crowds.
