Well,
It looks like my work will force us to reschedule our trip for the second week in January 2007. Can anyone tell me how the crowds and wether usually are then.

The crowds will be VERY low except for MLK weekend if you're there for that.Weather is very mild - usually 70's during the day and a bit chilly at night but still VERY nice :)

It's usually really slow. Even on MLK Weekend when we went a couple of years ago it wasn't bad. This year was the exception - we went during the passholder/DVC pre-view to Everest and it was CROWDED!

I have to elaborate on the weather portion of the OP's question. Whie I'm glad that MQuara has experienced mild weather in January, the weather is VERY unpredictable. You could have warm days with cool evenings as MQuara said, but you could also have mornings near freezing with daytime highs stuck in the 40s. And both of those could happen within a few days of each other!

We weren't there until the last few days of January but wanted to add...I spent a great deal of time on this board the days before I left this year and I do remember people saying the crowds were heavier then usual this year. Especially around the marathon time. Weather wise for us...it was cool but nice. Only one rain day (and hey, we needed the rest anyways). Nights were cold, but nothing jeans and a heavy sweatshirt didn't take care of. I hate the heat, so it was perfect for me with the exception it kept us out of the pool except for the last day and even then we shouldn't have tried to swim, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

We went this past January during the second week. Weekday crowds were non-existent. We got to the parks when they first opened and walked onto every ride.

On Saturday (weekend of MLK day), we went to Sea World, but I heard MK was very crowded. On Sunday we went to Epcot, which was extremely crowded. There was a huge church group (many hundreds of teenagers) in the park as well.

The weather was great - low 80's during the week. Then on Saturday it was very chilly and windy, in the 50s but felt much colder. Sunday was sunny but cool.

I would definately visit at this time of year again.

we've gone a few times in Jan and it has always been 80 one day, 50 the next ( sometimes lower at night) so i agree you just can't depend on the weather and even though the air temps aren't that bad( i mean relating it to Jan in Ohio ) the wind can make it seem tons colder. last trip was the first we actually needed our winter coats though, usually a sweatshirt and jeans had been enough at night, most days we've wore short/Capri's and tees.

we have found the crowds are always light except mlk day weekend, like a wait of 15mins mid afternoon for something like rnr is a really long wait.( that we gripe about :rotfl:) although some posted it was really crowded this yr. maybe due to ee? and MK is a zoo on weekend afternoons, esp. fantasy land

personally that is my favorite time to go since you can dress for the weather if need be, it doesn't seem to rain much and the parks are pretty empty. this yr the kids want to go to a water park (in Jan pools have been OK usually a day or 2 of our trips but not water park imo) so we are going earlier and hope we don't regret it.

just wanted to add, don't make the same mistake so many do and just pack summer clothes..it's unbelievable how many little kids i see in just shorts and lightweight shirts that must be absolutely freezing. we always take at least one warmer outfit just in case, usually don't need it but you need to prepare just in case

I believe that January is the best time to go. We've been in July, and we've been in April (going back in four weeks). But, our favorite trip was in January. The crowds were very low, and we had marvelous weather (January, 2004) with highs in the lower 70's and lows in the 50's. Regardless of the weather, it is a fabulous time of year to be at Disney World. And, if our kids weren't both in school now, we would try to go in January every year.

We were there January 13-24 this year. Yes, that includes MLK weekend. Crowds were great. I can remember a lot of attractions have 0-15 minute wait. We tried to get there first thing each morning, that helped a lot. Weather, a few days was really chilly (especially a night)...but most of the time it was T-shirt/jeans weather. 2 days we were able to wear shorts! It is now my new favorite time to go, if fact, we are going back January 18-29 2007!!

We were there at the same time. We also noticed the huge crowds at Epcot, but really we didn't have to wait for much. We were there in 2000 for the same week- it was was our honeymoon- and we never waited for anything! We are hoping to go back that same week next year to celebrate our anniversary and our DS's 3rd birthday. Since we were there this year my DD thinks that is how we should celebrate her brother's birthday every year! :)

We were there Jan 21-28th this year, & the crowds were not bad. I am used to the September crowds, so compared to that it was a bit more crowded. I did notice a lot of brazilian tour groups. They did have some pretty large groups. The weather was nice, some of the days we wore shorts & the rest of the trip we wore sweats. It is a pretty nice time of year to go though.

We were @ Pop Jan. 13-22 and we had an awesome trip! The weather was great and the crowds were the best by far!! We are going Jan. 12-21 2007 again. I love wearing our disney sweatshirts and jeans. MLK weekend wasn't too bad. We were @ MK on Sat. and did AK on MLK day and it was fine. I can't help but go to MK the 1st and last day. Have fun. See you in Jan.

Well, got some good news today... :cool1:
My work has shifted all operations to November to free up Decmber for people to take vacations, so we can go on our original date. However thanks for all of the info. Ireally appreciate it and will keep it in mind for future trips. :sail:

I love going in December - can't beat all the decorations!

We have been in January a few times. Be prepared for anything, as far as weather goes. One year it was so cold and windy, I drank hot chocolate all day long at the MK. Lines were great for us, that was the best part :)
