Crowds, Heat, Rain, and Lovebugs-Only 5 days to go and how are the conditions?

leaving monday so more the info the better, I'm curious its as hot this year as in past Septembers, as its been cooler in some parts of the country this summer.....

I will never understand why people try to take the joy out of someone's vacation prep. We all get very excited in the weeks before our WDW trip, why ridicule someone for being excited? :confused3

BTW, i'll be leaving for the World in less than a month. You can bet that I will be asking about the weather and bugs and crowds too! ;)

We just got back yesterday. We never noticed love bugs. The weather was hot and humid. We're from Indy, and are not used to humidity, so we found it pretty bad. We were sweaty most of the day. If you have long hair, remember ponytail holders. I was much cooler with my hair off my neck! After it would rain, it seemed even more humid, more like a sauna.

However, we would endure every second of that heat and humidity because of the crowds we experienced. Oh wait, I should say DIDN'T experience. It was fantastic! On our DHS day, we got there at rope drop. My DH ran ahead to get fast passes for TSM while we walked the kids over. We met up, got in stand-by line, and walked right on. Our fast pass return time was 9:45, so we did the 9:40 Playhouse Disney show, then headed back over to use our FP. However, the stand-by line at 10:10 was still only 15 minutes, so we did stand-by again. Then we got one more set of FP after we got off. We used both of those sets later in the day, but even then, the stand-by wait was only 30 minutes. This was on a Wednesday, so no EMH or Fantasmic to bump up crowds. Hope that gives you an idea of how awesome the crowds were. We did not wait more than 15 minutes for anything, and all but 3 waits were less than 10 minutes. We did get FP even when the lines were short, and the great thing was that the return time was so soon we got lots and used them later in the day when lines were a little longer. If I didn't say it clearly enough, the crowd level was great!!!

Have a wonderful trip!

Just got back Sunday night from a short 4 day trip. The weather was humid, but not unbearable. We only got rained on once really, and it wasn't that bad. Crowds were low.....to give you an idea....Peter Pan's Fllight was only a 5 to 10 minute wait. Pretty much walked right on. That's a pretty good indicator of crowd size. Everything was pretty much a walk on....Dumbo had only about 5 people waiting. The characters were never mobbed, either. We saw the Fairies mid-morning and maybe waited 20 minutes. Went right in to see the Princesses with no wait whatsoever. Rode HM a few times in a row, Buzz was a walk on. It was amazing.

As far as the love bugs...saw some floating around, but never enough to annoy anyone. It was pretty humid and hot on Sunday morning, but the rains rolled in around noon. Not sure how long they lasted, as I was heading to the airport around 1:30 or so.

hi
came back sunday and found it very bearable yes a bit humid let's say around noon to 3pm but then as mid afternoon came I found it to be confortable enough sometimes the evenings had a little breeze :thumbsup2
as for crowds on our last few days most of the rides had a 5- 10 min wait max :thumbsup2 don't look at the thunderstorms probability as sometimes yes you may get one but it last most of the time a few minutes then the sun comes back :cool1: no lovebugs until sunday .
have a nice trip

Why do some people feel the need to Kanye West a thread?
I have no idea.

How many threads do I want to see about current park conditions?
As many as possible. We leave Sturday.

Thanks for the updates DISers. Keep them coming.
:thumbsup2

This is the funniest thing I have read all day. I have to totally agree. I love reading about current conditions because I am leaving next week. I just ignore them when I am not going.

We just got back last night.

I saw a total of 2 (or would that be 4 ;)) lovebugs on our trip, those were all on our first day. I was there in September of 2006 for the awful lovebug season, so I was pleasantly surprised!

It was HOT. I wore all tank tops and mesh Champion shorts, and never looked back. I also was grateful to have brought cotton wireless bras (sorry if TMI) and was very comfortable.

Our first few days were rain-free, but it did rain on Saturday morning while we were at HS, and then that evening the hour right before Spectro, and then again for one more hour Sunday at Epcot. We wore our ponchos and carried on. It never lasted more than an hour, it seemed.

Crowds were AWESOME. We went 9/18-9/24 a few years ago and thought THOSE crowds were great, but last week was even better. Waited all of 10 mins at 10am for TSM, walked on to almost everything else. For most rides our wait was just actually getting through the queue. The only 2 rides we FP'd were Peter Pan and Test Track the whole trip.

If you need to know anything else, let me know! :thumbsup2

I'm with you OP. We leave Saturday and I'm curious as to the current conditions. Not the conditions 2 weeks ago, not 1 week ago, not even 5 days ago - just CURRENT.

Next week's forecast shows thunderstorms each day!:scared1:

Don't worry, I don't think I've ever seen an Orlando forecast in September that didn't show thunderstormse everyday. Our trip did 2 weeks ago and it only rained one day about 10-noon (wed) and then another night for about 10-15 min around 7pm (sat). Just enough to clear out the parks.

I'm so sorry that I started this thread. This is the reason why I usually just lurk around message boards and I don't post. I just asked simple questions and I get my head chewed off. I guess it's not right that I'm excited to go on my trip. I have to hunt and peck thru hundreds of posts, and with the board loading so slowly for me off and on, it's hard to read sometimes. I got such lag sometimes. I wish that people would have some civility and would treat others with respect. This always seems to happen to me, I post a question and people jump all over me.

Thanks for anyone who had read this thread and posted support. I am almost ready to not read anymore or post anything else. I was really worried about the lovebugs, I know they are harmless and annoying but we had them the last time we went in Sept. and I wanted to know if I was in the clear this year as to missing them.

Also, I just wanted to know if there were afternoon thunderstorms. I'm from the West Coast and I'm not used to high humidity and thunderstorms. I have a really lightening phobia. Just hearing a thunderstorm has me crawled up in bed shaking. I guess I'm just a wimp about it. But I was worried, as we wanted to take the Sea Racyers out for a spin around the lake and I didn't want to get caught in anything unpleasant.

Thanks again for those of you kind folks who are supportive.

I'm off to try to get the magic back in my trip planning.

THANK YOU FOR THE CROWD REPORT!

That really made my day!:banana::banana:
:dance3:

5-10 minute waits is all I want to hear. Getting the magic back...:wizard:

Thank you OP for asking, I am leaving early Sat and wanted to know too! Have a magical trip and ignore the GRUMPYS on here.. You ask whatever you want, thats what the board is for..

Don't let one sourpuss ruin any of your fun and excitement. Some people look for any excuse to rain on someone else's parade. Most of us on here are more than happy to answer questions. Like I said, I got back yesterday, and I was thrilled to share how great it was there.

It did rain several of the days we were there. Friday it rained pretty hard for about an hour, then drizzled off and on for a while after that. Saturday it rained in the morning, then again at night right before 9 pm. Sunday it rained hard for 30 minutes or so around noon, then again later in the afternoon for a little while. I wouldn't worry too much about the thunder and lightning. Our experience was that when it did rain, oftentimes it was still relatively sunny, even as the rain was falling. Rarely did we see lightning or hear thunder. And it came and went really fast. I made myself crazy worrying about the weather before we went, and it was really a non-issue. I hope it is for you too!

Again, have a magical time!

THANK YOU for the current info. We are also leaving in a little over a week and I have been worried mostly about crowd conditions. DH is REALLY not a crowd person and I kept telling him it would be a great time to go. (Our first trip in May 05 had really great crowds, or lack of. Dec 07 we had Pop Warner crowds.) One more thing I can check off the list :cheer2:

I too send a big thanks or the info. We leave next Monday.(My trip report on the bottom is wrong and I am not sure how to fix it. Least of my worries) I hope the weather is good and the low crowds sound great. By the way dare I ask what a Luvbug is?

I too appreciate the updates, as I'll be standing on Disney property in about 44 hours or so!

I'll be driving up from South Florida, so one of the biggest things I am looking for updates on is the lovebugs. I need to know if I have to plan on exiting 1 turnpike exit sooner to stop at the carwash on 192 before heading in...because if they're all over your car, you have to get them off STAT!

By the way dare I ask what a Luvbug is?

It's a black, squishy, very amorous and quite harmless bug that flies very very slowly usually while attached to another love bug backwards (hence the name). They're much like lightning bugs, without the glowing rump. They do not bite, sting, or really do much of anything but float around waiting to land on a person or squish themselves as thoroughly as possible into the grill of a car. During heavy seasons of them, they can be thick as carpets. So far, this year seems slow - they weren't very heavy in May/June, and reports seem to be thin so far this month (which is their other biannual season).
