Crowds for last week of August?

Please remember that hurricane season will be upon us late August early September. The only thing that will spoil my vacation is a hurricane - not the crowds. So go and enjoy~!! :sunny:

If I were you, I would just plan on it being really crowded and really really hot. And then plan my days around that. It seems like getting to the parks EARLY and using Fast Pass is the way to go. And then leaving around 11am or noon, to go back to the hotel and swim, and then going back to the parks after dinner.

You might want to check out Tour Guide Mike's website. You can get a step by step plan for the parks which seems to reduce wait times in lines considerably.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

We go that week every year for the past 10 or so. It's fine, may be more crowded this year due to the free dining but I don't think it'll be that bad. With the exception of NYC and NJ most of the other states are all back in school. We don't go back till after Labor Day - WE ARE STILL IN SCHOOL NOW, our last day is not till Friday.

I would plan early mornings, have a nice rest/pool/relax in the afternoon and then do the parks again in the evening. Rain is generally 5 pm every day for about 20 minutes and then it really cools off.

Go, you won't regret it.

In 2002, my cousin and I went to WDW 8/17-8/24. The lines were really short, and the crowd was fairly low. That was the first time I have been there in years, and I could not believe how empty it was. Last year, we went from 7/4-7/9, oh boy was it a madhouse on the fourth!! It was so hot tooo, it is better to go at the end of august. It rains everyday, but it is much quieter. pirate:

We went last year from 8/31-9/6 and loved it! I have done Spring Break and this was nowhere comparable. We did not wait to get on rides and as Hurricane Frances drew near, the parks were even less crowded. We had a great time! And we planned our trip this year for the same week.

Thanks for all the great replies. I am so excited, I don't care if it is hot OR crowded!! NC has a new law that they have to have a 3 month break or we would be in school by Aug 3. This is the first year they get so much time. In KY, they will be in school early in Aug and I figure a lot of kids will be.

I did this two years ago and the crowds were very reasonable (much better than early June). Most schools everywhere go back to school BEFORE Labor Day. For the kids that don't, I really believe that most parents do not like to take vacation right before school starts. In 2003 there were very few school age children there. The only school age children I saw were from England. We won't be getting back to PHL from our trip until 9:30pm on Labor Day Monday and my kids start school the next morning. It will be a little rough, but the flights were so cheap it was a no brainer.

Labor Day weekend will have heavier crowds, but the mornings should be OK. The week of 8/22 will definately be busier than 8/29. Last year we spent part of that week at Universal Studios. Definately more crowded, but it didn't matter because we stayed on site and had the front of the line access.

I am a little worried about increased crowds this year because of the dining, but I really believe that the week leading up to Labor Day is not a popular vacation week anywhere. I say this because I have vacationed during this week for years (not just Disney/Orlando).

OOOOOOO! I'm so jealous of your two-week stay! We're doing 9 days this time, but I'd love to stay longer! Have fun!

I know we're crazy, but I've planned everything around the late night EMH's. DH and kids want to try it - so if it's crowded, it's crowded, I'm not gonna stress over it! LOL! - we want to relax during the day and stay out late.

I really can't wait!

We went a couple of years ago at the end of August and I didn't find it bad at all, but it sounds like this year may be different. We were just ther over Memorial day weekend and I was prepared for humungous crowds but again I was pleasantly surprised, not too bad. My kids and I are going back Aug. 7th through the 12th and I'm preparing once again for large crowds but once again I hope I'm pleasantly surprised! ;)
