I just found out that the kids will have the Tuesday off after Columbus Day this year, so that got me questioning my DH about where we can go for a long weekend. My first choice was DL, but I threw in an island or Washington, DC, in case he wanted something closer. The kids want DL, too.

So, what do you think the crowds will be like that weekend? Is it worth going and doing just DL in Southern CA if we have to turn around so quickly to come home? That's probably a dumb question on this forum. :p

Crowds at DL on weekends are heavy year-round, but should not be bad on weekdays. It is a school holiday for many kids, though, so that will increase crowds on that Monday.

We were there last year the week before Columbus Day, we left the Friday of the three day weekend. It was plenty busy for us. It was also the World Series and the games were in Anaheim at that time so that might have helped.

Just remember if your kids have the time others do too and think the same thing.....but it wouldn't stop me from making a trip. Do you have AP's....if not it might be worth it to get the Park hopper plus tickets either thru AAA travel or Walt Disney travel. The are only a bit more than the regular park hoppers but come with extra fast pass privelages, plus other extras.

You might want to take note that local schools do not get Columbus Day off so you shouldn't see a surge of locals at the park. Now how many people from other areas that do get that day off and decide to take a little vacation... well, that's another question.
