crowds during martin luther king jr. holiday

has anyone been to the parks over this weekend in the past? how were the crowds?

I'm really interested to know too since we will be there during MLK weekend and a few days before/after the holiday next month. Other threads have been split with whether people consider it crowded. We've been in the height of summer,during Spring Break/ Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas before, so I am hoping it can't be more crowded than those days!

Although we usually goin January we have always avoided MLK weekend. I think the Builders Convention is usually that weekend as well (I found a link to their site once - sorry.. forget what it was but had all the details for the convention & listed 100K members expected ).

That was enough to scare me off however, I know others have said the weekend itself can be crowded with locals but the week itself wasn't bad.

We were there this year over MLK holiday, with the builders convention in town for the first time.

I would plan to avoid MK on Saturday--we went in the afternoon and left quickly--it was as crowded as I have ever seen MK. However, Epcot and AK had no problems. The parks the days before were very manageable.

I wouldn't let the convention scare you off, there's always 100,000+ people in town for some type of convention. This time it's just one group though and they're not staying at Disney hotels. I would avoid MK on Jan. 14th and if you can also the 15th & 16th. The rest of the parks should be fine. We've been every January since 2001 and have only had problems with crowds on Saturdays. Have a great time, maybe we'll see you there.

I don't know about the parks, but we were staying at WL one year, right before that weekend, and the lodge itself went from dreamily empty to so hustling and bustling you couldn't get a TS meal - all in the space of one day. Yikes.

DW and I were there last year and did not think it was that bad.

We did MK on Saturday and the wait times were not bad and then EPCOT on Sunday and had no issues there either, pretty much walk on for everything.

I have been other times that were far worse than MLK weekend.
