CNN is reporting that crowds are celebrating the defeat of Saddam in the streets in Bagdad. Many protetsters of this war have been trying to label us as invaders. In think these people see us more as liberators. We are freeing the Iraqi people from an evil tyrant and made our nation safer from those who would harm us.

God bless the brave men and women of our armed forces who are putting their lives on the line to make this possible. Many of them have paid for the freedom of others with their own lives. May their sacrifices never be forgotten and may the death and suffering end soon.

Everybody chant together "No Blood For Oil!" ;)

while I am very happy for both our troops and the people of Iraq, our troops still have alot of work to do. Keep those prayers going strong!!!

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS!!!

I am awestruck watching this...I had to see if anyone else on here was watching this. This is really so amazing.

Thanks for letting me just ramble.

Oh but of course we all know that this is just an elaborate Hollywood production:rolleyes: (sarcasm intended)

Seriously, I'm praying hard for our troops and that the Iraqi people can truly live free now.

Thanks for posting that picture!

Another heart warming sign is "GO HOME HUMAN SHIELDS". The Iraqi's know who was there on their behalf and it wasn't the peace freaks and human shields.

I could not have said that better myself!

What heartwarming scenes as the Iraqi citizens prepare to topple yet another huge SD stautue (what an egotist he must have been). So true that there are probably still tough and dangerous days ahead for the coalition troops, always need to be wary and not let jubilation overtake caution, but it sure is nice to see these oppressed people able to rejoice in a demonstrable way like this.

This is absolutely amazing.... I am so happy for them. I also continue to pray and support the troops.

Reminiscent of watching the sheer jubilation of the smashing of the Berlin Wall back in '89, the joy of human freedom from oppression and bondage.

Freedom! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Dan I too thought of the fall of the Berlin Wall. What an incredible day!

Cnn.Com - Iraqis use sledgehammers to pound the base of a statue of Saddam in Firdos Square, Baghdad

CNN.COM - Iraqis get a rope onto the landmark statue of Saddam Hussein that dominates Firdos Square in central Baghdad on Wednesday.

:D :D :D

NBC reporting that this statue of Saddam was built to celebrate his 65th Birthday which is this April 28th! Somehow I don't think the statue will be here for that date.

Ah yes...time to bring out some nice "egg on your face" quotes from the talking heads:

"Barely a week into the war, with coalition forces sweeping through Iraq, ABC's Peter Jennings and CBS's Lesley Stahl decided to raise the ghost of the Vietnam quagmire. Jennings teased Wednesday's World News Tonight by hyping how “one Marine” told an ABC reporter that given the landscape, weather and guerrilla tactics, “sometimes” Iraq “feels like Vietnam.” The night before, on CBS's 48 Hours, Lesley Stahl asked a Vietnam vet: “You fought in Vietnam. Are you getting any feelings of deja vu?” -- Peter Jennings And Leslie Stahl on March 26 & 27, 2003.

- "The United States is going to leave Iraq with its tail between its legs, defeated.... Every time we confront Iraqi troops we may win some tactical battles, as we did for 10 years in Vietnam, but we will not be able to win this war, which in my opinion is already lost." -- Scott Ritter on March 27, 2003.

"...(W)e’re embroiled in a conflict that looks like a bad remake of Vietnam with an enemy that fights in civilian dress. The bravado of a week ago is gone. “It’s out of our hands,” sighs a White House aide. In an echo of Vietnam, military leaders say they are hamstrung by the rules of engagement. It’s a tough sell to a 21-year-old and even his commander that the political cost of shooting people who may or may not turn out to be civilians is too high. “It’s the price you pay when you’re a superpower going up against a fourth-rate military power,” says a Senate Democrat. “You have a higher standard to uphold.” -- Eleanor Clift in an editorial called, "A Bad Remake Of Vietnam" on March 28, 2003

"Clearly, the American war planners misjudged the determination of the Iraqi forces...And I personally do not understand how that happened, because I've been here many times and in my commentaries on television I would tell the Americans about the determination of the Iraqi forces, the determination of the government, and the willingness to fight for their country. But me, and others who felt the same way were not listened to by the Bush administration...That is why now America is re-appraising the battlefield, delaying the war, maybe a week, and re-writing the war plan. The first war plan has failed because of Iraqi resistance now they are trying to write another war plan." -- Peter Arnett in an interview with Iraqi TV on March 30, 2003.

- "(T)he fact of the matter is that the United States has got itself in a terrible bind here without regional allies” and suggested that “without UN legitimacy -- forget it, never work, Vietnam quagmire next stop." -- Arthur Kent on April 5, 2003

{{sniff}}

I watched it. Very powerful. They were trying to get the old Iraq flag up on the base...

I love the video they're showing on FOX.... they broke the head off the statue, they're dragging it down the street and one of the citizens is riding on it. Talk about a butthead! :teeth:
