We were thinking of entering MK after the fireworks against the crowds who are exiting. The park is open until midnight. Does anyone know how crowded the park is after the fireworks? Does it really thin out? Will we have a hard time getting in because of the massive exiting crowds? We're going to watch the fireworks from the Poly then head over. Does this sound like a good idea?

The crowds at MK on July 4 are massive, and while they will thin out a bit after the fireworks, trying to enter the park afterwards will be like trying to swim upstream against VERY strong current.

It could take you an hour to get from the turnstile, up Main Street and to any given Land. IMO, the night of J4 is not the night to try and catch a couple of rides after the fireworks.

I guess it depends on when you get there. We did this last year after watching both fireworks shows at MGM and EPCOT. We left EPCOT (took awhile to get out of there) and drove to the MK. The crowds for the monorail were HUGE, but there was hardly anyone going in. We had no problem at all getting in and it was nice to ride a few rides with no crowds. We got an ice cream and enjoyed having Main Street almost to ourselves. I'd definitely recommend it.

I think it would be A OK. The crowds are generally thin before the tunnels, then you get past the tunnels and it thickens up right there on main street. Time it just right and everyone will be browsing around in shops. Wait about 30 minutes after the fireworks and I think you could get in fairly easy.

This is our thought exactly. We are going to watch Illuminations which is now scheduled for 9:00pm according to the disney site. Since MK is open until midnight and wishes is currently scheduled for 10:00pm, we will try and arrive about 10:45 and catch a few of the major attractions before closing. ::MickeyMo

We do this every year. For the last few years, CMs were directing entering traffic to the right of Main Street, where they opened a gate (past Tony's) and allowed you to go "backstage." While it wasn't keeping with the Disney Magic behind the scenes, the path dumps you off through the Tomorrowland Theater in less than 5 minutes. You don't have to walk through the exiting crowds at all.

If they don't open this area this year, stay to the right, hold hands, and walk through the shops. It's never taken us an hour to get from the entrance to any of the lands.
