Crowd Outlook

I agree with the premise that they should be doing more in terms of in park maintenance, that’s a separate issue in my mind.
I still believe that the condition WDW Splash Mountain closed in was one of the most embarrassing things in recent memory. More than 50% of the animatronics and lighting effects didn't work. A lot of audio cues were skipped over or too soft to hear too.

And that’s decades of neglect, not something that is a recent development.

Chapek had the parks division seriously undercut the maintenance as either head or when he became CEO he forced cost cutting wherever. It’s gonna take time to rectify that.

Indeed. But we get no indication from anyone that efforts to even start the process has begun. At least that I can tell.

Yeah true. It's been bad for the past 5-ish years but I was in shock at the state of the ride when I rode it Christmas week. I feel like for the price of a MK ticket rides shouldn't look THAT awful.

Dinosaur is looking rough these days too.

I would suggest that at this very moment, there are unmet maintenance needs in both personnel and supplies in ALL the parks. At least judging by the attractions downtime numbers. You can't operate that way over the long term.
Is that a product of the pandemic that Disney has been actively combatting though? I would argue that based on the fact that they are still investing in personal at the parks, and safeguarding them from cuts your argument doesn't hold much water. In fact a lot of people have talked how there have been a lot of improvements but room for more

I know I've said this many, many times before, but I just don't see the necessary focus from senior management on park issues. I just ain't there. Just yesterday, the entire earnings call was about DTC and linear TV. Not a peep from anyone about parks. None. That HAS to change.

Rant over.

what did Uni do in the years after HP went in. They can't be in a constant state of expanding, that's unrealistic at best
You should expect something new every 2 years at worst. It doesn't have to be an E ticket level attraction all the time. One year add a Moana level attraction and the next year add a major attraction. Keep doing it till DHS, AK and Epcot have a similar number of attractions as MK.

Yeah, it's because parks are generally doing well. It's unfortunate that they use them to cover underperformance of other areas. The parks profit should go back into the parks for the most part. I still think they generally do a good job with the parks, but they used to do a great job, and the decline is noticeable.

Which parks issues though, all of DPEP, or just WDW?

Major Shareholders aren’t curious about what’s going on in the parks. They’re still chugging along even in a “softer” period.

As some other posters have noted, I think there needs to be better focus on not just realizing maintenance, upkeep, wear and tear and staffing needs/deficiencies. But, there needs to be a better plan to address those issues in full and dare I say in a more timely manner.

For instance, I may be a lone wolf out in the woods here, but to me it is absolutely ridiculous that the central area of Future World (or whatever the heck they call it now) is still unavailable for guest traffic. You are razing a building and laying pathways and an interactive walk through and that is going to take 4 years or more? Just crazy stuff.

You would think that construction walls in the MIDDLE of the park for 4 years or more would be a source of embarrassment for a company that sell entertainment. Apparently, not at TWDC, after watching the EP construction project.
I can't emphasize this enough, the pandemic shook how the parks run/ran and they are still recovering. If you look to the past prior to the pandemic i think you would sing a different tune.

Wait...you're the one who opened this thread asking for opinions on attendance for the fall.

Now you are annoyed that forum members tried to answer the question YOU asked?
that was in reference to a rant that had nothing to do with anything except wanting to complain about how some still liked Disney, and i'm paraphrasing here, but also might "worship satan" by doing so

the parks aren't struggling so there isn't much to be addressed in an earnings call from your best earner.

they are doing that. You just don't like what they're adding. Here's the last 5 years
2017- Pandora
2018-Toy Story Land
2019-SW
2020-Mickey and Minnies Runaway (Pandemic year)
2021- Ratatouille (Pandemic Year)
2022-Guardians Cosmic Rewind and Tron

It could be argued that the last decade plus has been single handedly the largest investment in the parks they have ever made. The resounding answer to all that spending on these boards.... It's not enough

100% agree Brian. I don't mind paying a premium for a premium product but maintainence issues so bad that even the average guest notices it isn't very premium.

It's not so much that it's not enough, they need to continue with that pace as all parks other than MK need more attractions.

So imo those are valid concerns over how TWDC is operating in terms of construction of projects and maintenance in their parks, but to date hasn’t shown as large of an impact on the actual Crowds at the parks vs the prior year.
Again, I may very well be a lone wolf, but a significant reason that my DW and I are not traveling to WDW last year or this year is because EP remains under construction. It was (is?) my favorite park. I won't go back until and unless it's fixed. It is ugly. The barges were hideous. The construction walls are hideous. I'm not paying for an expensive theme park ticket to look at construction walls in the middle of a park.

I don't understand, at first it was they weren't adding enough, now it's that they aren't adding in the right places (HS was a 1/2 day park until recently mind you, and AK looks like they have more coming up on the docket). It seems like zeno's paradox to me
