We are going to Florida in August with my parents. The DVC is all booked.

We saw good flight prices £559 each, with Continental on a VA plane back in January. Didn't book it as DM and DH were convinced the price would drop due to credit crunch etc.

Well they were wrong! They are going up and up. Not sure what to do now, VA and BA flights are about £800 each now

We wanted Gatwick to MCO direct, but are starting to think about other options: flying into Tampa, indirect flights etc. Totally confused because i am convinced that as soon as I book something the LGW-MCO prices will fall. Wish we had booked those nice prices in January......nobody would listen to me. Boo hoo.

So, 4 adults, 2 kids (3 and 6) LGW-MCO 12 Aug until -28 Aug (could alter dates a bit)

Any ideas????? Please somebody who knows where to look help me ! This is driving me mad. Don't want to book ADRS next month if we dont even have flights! Feel so stupid that we didn't snap up those flights in January.

Thanks so much.
Mandy :)

Even I would have paid £559 direct in August, only time we have beaten that price in past 3 years is Miles and Money or Miles only fares, full price have been £700-800.

Is it possible to fly from Gatwick but return to Heathrow?
travelpack.com (maybe others) fly out direct with CO(VS) and return indirect CO, £539pp

4 x Adult Tickets £ 462.00 £1848.00
4 x Adult Airport Taxes and Charges £ 106.30 £425.20
2 x Child Tickets £ 374.00 £748.00
2 x Child Airport Taxes and Charges £ 106.30 £212.60
Total: £3233.80

At least 1 way would be direct.

Good luck

Oh no....that is not good......

Not sure if there would be a deal during the easter break...generally the January ones tend to have the best deals......I know that BA ended some time last week....

Thanks Wayne- will look into that.
I knew the £559 quote was great but hubby and mum said (and are still saying) prices will come down because of the economy. Cannot stand the wait to see if they do. Need to book! Arghhhhhhhhhhh

We are hoping to travel out either the 13th or 14th and return on the 28th...depending on availabilty nearer the time. We go via Miami as we like to travel from LHR. But would love to have a direct flight.

If you are considering the option I found, openjet.co.uk I think are slightly cheaper GBP 3,161

We found Miami a nice place to visit.....we stayed there for only one night, then drove to Orlando it was fun as we went with friends. Another time we caught an internal flight which we are hoping to do so again....fingers crossed for the availability.

We booked indirect through US airways from Gatwick for August and saved about £100 per head versus VA and £120 versus BA. We booked about a month ago so not sure of current pricing. To compensate for the indirect flights we added another night at Pop Century. Hope that is some help.:goodvibes

We made the same mistake in 2007 and ended up flying into Miami (VA Miles + Money). What I would say is that, after we missed the boat initially, the prices didn't increase any further - I checked daily for months before biting the bullet - so you can probably afford to hold out in the hope that you might get a deal. Having said that, we were able to be flexible with dates, so you might want to keep an eye on availability.

orbitz.com have flight with Delta (one stop) on those dates for £3038 but maybe you could try dates either side too? My mum and dad have used this site twice before for transatlantic flight and both times were good value and no problems. They price in dollars so I used xe.com to convert.

Dont give up yet Mandy! I have been watching flights for ages and i finally booked with expedia through luck! Keep an eye on there, prices alter all the time! We are going 16th-30th august 2 adults 2 children 1 infant from man - mco direct £1,450 flying with virgin. :thumbsup2

we always have a benchmark price and if it hits it wee book.this year it was £500 for aug, while waiting for it to go to that price it droped to £380 from £650 1 stop for 15 nights.you bet we booked at that price.
most januarys direct comes out at £600-£650 as thats sale time.
You have to watch on web crawler sites like www.kayack.co.uk and wacht quite offten, there are bargins out there

I got Virgin for £501 + 2000 miles each on 11th to 28th August. Booked in November. Seems like a bargain now but at the time I was really worried that I was paying over the odds. I usually go in December and get PE one way for what I have paid for August. I have just been checking flights for 2nd August for a friend who wants to book the free dining but flights really expensive. anyone seen anything reasonable for that date.
Thanks

We were fortunate, i paid £475 direct from man to mco with opodo.co.uk flying with VA departing 18th aug for 17 nights , 4 of us going, also got the okw with fre dining booked with disney.co.uk, the offer is park on , more or less the same price but tickets more expensive!!

I had never seen £500 flights in Aug with Virgin before, so was amazed and delighted to find them on Greenbee for £498, cheaper even than we used to pay with TCD.We were going to book indirect flights with Air France which came out about £100 cheaper, so glad we didn't it's worth the extra to fly direct.

When Virgin were at their peak I had a £100 rule(£300 for 3 of us) I was willing to that for their better service and direct, unfortunately their service and quality has deteriorated but US carriers have improved so I won't pay more than a £200 (for all of us) premium now. Helps that we like going indirect.

Wayne- when considering going indirect to Orlando which cities and airlines do you find work best? Also how long ideally for lay over? Don't want to be rushing to catch second plane but dont want top have hours to kill either.

Seen so many indirect flights but not sure which are best!

Thanks!

Mandy :)
