Crofton reviews "Dreams" promotion in address to amusement-park industry

Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton told more than 400 leaders of the amusement-park industry, gathered for a convention in Orlando this morning, that their work is not just a business but a worthy cause.

Crofton's keynote address to the owners and general managers at the annual conference and trade show of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions was billed as a review of Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams" campaign and a look at the company's vision for the future.

But while Crofton detailed the "dreams" promotion, she offered the gathering no new hints of what Walt Disney Parks and Resorts might have in mind for Walt Disney World.

She noted new attractions in the works in Hong Kong and Paris, the company's planned overhaul of Disney's California Adventure in California, the recent order placed for two new cruise ships, an announced new resort in Hawaii, and the growth in Adventures by Disney package-vacation tours.

The only new item she mentioned for her own resort was the current construction of the Toy Story Mania ride at Disney-MGM Studios. Instead, as she reviewed the experiences everyone at Disney World had while participating in the "dreams" campaign, she drove home the point that the business's strength may be in tapping into visitors' dreams on a personal level.

"Our job is to amuse and to entertain, and our product is to make people's wishes, hopes and dreams come true," Crofton said. "This is a worthy cause."
