Crocs, The Unofficial Disney "Shoe" May Be Bad Choice

I love my Croc flip flops! Wear them every year to Disney and I've had no problems. I suggested them to my mom, who's also coming to WDW with us this year, yesterday while we were at the mall and she tried some on and loved them!

It is well-known that Disney fans love Crocs. I see them suggested on this page all of the time as one of the best shoes for the theme parks. Not according to this article....

(Don't shoot the messenger. I am just sharing since the question pops up on the TPAAS forum about shoes almost weekly)

This is really an article about a couple of podiatrists not recommending wearing ANY SHOE WITH AN UNSECURED HEEL OR THAT BEND IN THE SHANK for 8-10 hours a day. OK. :thumbsup2

There goes ALL my summer footwear! :)

My toddler had low muscle tone, braces on his feet and his physical therapists said crocs are the worst shoes for kids. I will agree I love them for water activities or wet rides and Disney

I have the classic clogs in black, blue, green and khaki, Mammoths which are toasty and comfy all winter, plus 3 pairs of flip flops and 3 pairs of Mickey Crocs. No matter what shoe I try, I always go back to those Crocs at Disney.

When I read the article, I got the impression that the criticism comes from wearing them every day, all day. I wear my flip flops all summer, and I wear the clogs to do gardening, etc. The others are packed with the Disney clothing and only come out on vacation.

Oh yeah, my husband agrees and wears his at Disney too. And we both wear socks!!!!

Oh and one more tip - do you know you can soften Crocs with a hair dryer to custom fit them to your foot? You can heat up the spot that might be rubbing, stretch it a little with your hand or foot, and get a perfect fit!!!

I don't mind the other versions of Crocs people wear, but I can't stand seeing those "classic" style Crocs. I hate those hideous things. I will say they've came a long way as a company from those things, but since day one I wish they'd discontinue those

That style is actually the best for comfort and support for me. They're wide, loose and square on my feet so they have very even support from front to back.

I have never owned a pair, and have vowed not to ever (at least the traditional ones that look like an old time hockey mask). I guess I am lucky, I can pretty much wear any(reasonable) shoe and not be dying at the end of the day. For this next trip I am bringing a pair of Reebok x-trainers, Aerosole wedge sandals, and flip flops.

I trust NO article when it comes to what my feet on my body like to wear.

(the treads on the bottom become smooth quickly with constant wear)

I had my maryjanes that I wore nearly constantly when I was much heavier, and they still haven't become smooth. Probably a matter of how a person walks and on what surfaces.

The "bad choice" shoe is the one that leaves your feet sore at the end of the day. If Crocs work for you, they work. Literally no one-size-fits-all answer to "what shoe should I wear".

Exactly.

You want them to be discontinued because you find them ugly?

Even though many people wear them because they are comfortable on their feet? So you want a shoe that works for many people to stop production b/c of your personal taste?

While the only traditional-looking ones I have are the lined ones, and the ones I wore in public were a smaller maryjane style, I would remind anyone that people wear them because those people find them comfy. :)

I can't wear crocs beyond my backyard. Most painful shoe ever. I have never gotten the hype. I prefer a shoe that actually has support!

YOU can't wear them.

The "hype" as you put it is because OTHER people wear them and find them comfortable.

I find that the arch is almost too high for me! There's nearly too much support for my feet! How's that for the opposite feeling?

People like them because *they like them*.

That's all that anyone needs to understand.

I don't like big built up shoes like Asics. I understand that *other people* find them to be comfortable. I don't necessarily like how they look, but get that others do, or maybe others don't but like how they feel. I don't need anything to be discontinued just b/c my feet and eyes don't like something. :)

Yea. I think the original crocs are one of the ugliest creations for 'shoes' that have ever been created. Plus there's no support on them and flimsy material. Comfort is fine, I just don't wear slippers out in public lol. But if people like them, wear them. Doesn't matter to me. I just dislike the look and material of them

We just got back from our week long trip. My husband wanted to try his Crocs on our first park day. By 4:00 he had a blister on the top of his foot from walking around Epcot. He loves his and wears them every weekend at home, but the rest of our trip he wore his tennis shoes. Same thing with my youngest son. He spend the majority of the trip in the stroller and wore his Avenger Crocs to keep him cool. A few days into the trip I noticed he had a blister/raw spot on the top of his foot too. After that Nikes for the rest of the trip.

My 16 yr old brother on the other hand wore his Crocs and tall white socks and had no problems. We didn't notice his feet until we got in the park the first day. When we asked him what he was wearing, he said he was dressed for "maximum walking comfort" :rotfl:.

I very stupidly wore a pair of sneakers I hadn't broken in yet on my first day at MK and paid for it with a huge blister. Luckily I had brought my Patricia Croc sandals and they saved my vacation so I'm a fan of Crocs! it is true that they will get slippery on wet surfaces when the bottom gets worn though.

I believe crocs and clogs to be an excellent choice of footwear. I'm sure they'll find a place in your collection. For most part, they are multipurpose, so you can basically wear them anywhere. They are comfortable, and come in a variety of designs

I have loved crocks from almost the very moment they appeared.
As a nurse I worked 12 and 16 hour shifts in the ED and ICU, so you know I wasn't doing any sitting! lol..
I have tried everything single kind of shoe recommended for nurses from the old Clinics (omgoodness-they were awful!) to Asics, and Nikes, earth shoes, and those dansko clogs (gave me shin splints) every nurse on the planet was wearing, and nothing is as comfortable and better on my feet and back as crocs! (yes, the ugly ones). I even had orthotics made after a nasty bout of tendinitis from wearing Asics gels and no dice. Cross are what's best for MY feet.
Are they ugly? You betcha!
Are they comfortable? Absofreakenlutely!
Lol
So, again, different strokes for different folks!

I average about 300 miles in my running shoes and take the pair that has about 50 miles remaining. Like walking on butter.

And this is a prime example of "Don't believe everything you read on the internet." No peer reviewed science, just 2 doctors, and they both say all sandals are bad, "but especially crocs! They're the worst!" If that isn't a smear piece, I don't know what is.

That article was from their "Men's Lifestyle Editor", not someone from their health or science department.

I love my Crocs, and I have recommended them, but with a caveat: although they say they're non-slip, if they're worn out (the treads on the bottom become smooth quickly with constant wear) they become very VERY slippery on wet, smooth surfaces. Just ask my left arm how that went after I shattered it because I slipped in a puddle on a wet, wood floor. :'(

I will concur, when I broke a bone in the bottom of my foot (yes, I'm a calamity) my podiatrist was good with me wearing crocs flip flops because of the support they provided, and because I couldn't fit them into sneakers.
Even if not worn out you will slip in the rain. It has happened to me more than once and I own literally over 30 pairs of crocs.

I have high arches and absolutely love my croc sandals. They have been my favorites for 3 past trips and I have had zero problems from them. Just ordered a new pair for my trip next month!

I wear my Crocs Cleos (sandals) at the parks exclusively. After a week my feet are only tired at the end of the day (like anyone's are anywhere) and I feel good to go the next morning.

But to each their own, YMMV. Whatever works for each person. There are nurses at the hospital where I work who wear Crocs all day every day. There are others who don't. And there are women in the office who walk around in five inch heels all day, too. That baffles me, but whatever works for your feet, go for it.
