Crocs Caution!

Can you honestly name someone you know who just tried them on and loved the look and feel of them who is not diabetic, overweight, has any history of foot problems, or is a child?
I find the neon green crocs nauseating and obnoxious. I can put up with the pink and red, I may not find them age appropriate, but I can at least stomach it. The neon green is just disgusting, I dont care if it's crocs, a backpack, a room, a chair I just hate that color. The black, blue and white are fine. The multi colored flip-flops are nice with the white and red/orange. and the high sandals look good too.

In case I didnt make this clear I am talking about the classic crocks and the tacky ones(the bootish ones that are 3 diffrent colors and camouflaged), not the wedgies, flip flops, high heels or sandals. Those dont look bad at all.

I ABSOLUTELY can!!! Have you looked around you??? People of all shapes, sizes, colors, and abilities wear them. I know, it's COMPLETELY SHOCKING that a thin woman or man with absolutely NO medical issues would wear them. The second coming must be near.

I really don't care if you HATE the other colors or just can't "stomach" them--you didn't pay for them and you're not wearing them so I don't believe its any of your business. End of story.

I dislike the nubs on the bottom of the shoes. It feels like sand....or nubs. Give me a good pair of socks and sneakers anyday.

I posted on another thread about how my 5 yr old DD was constantly falling during Tropical Storm Faye while wearing her crocs.... they are a little worn on the bottom. After 2 days of that, I forced her to wear her sneakers even though they got drenched after a day in the torrential downpours .....

 Wonder wear Crocs fit in? Seems like a few years from now there's going to be a whole lot of them in landfills...:confused3
Maybe they'll be recyclable?? A few years ago, I remember Nike running a program at a school, --where they were collecting old worn out athletic shoes to be shredded and made into a solid mat/turf for playground surface.

Me - I'm not overweight, not diabetic and have no foot problems. My 2 sisters-in-law. My mother-in-law. Several mom friends from my daughter's dance studio. I could name more.

And what makes you think that people who actually live around Orlando do not wear Crocs?? Where did you get that information?? :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: Hey maybe you have some inconsistent stats on that you'd like to share!! :woohoo:

ME. I'm not overweight, I'm not diabetic, I don't have any sort of debilitating disease.

I am a nurse, however...and spend 12+ hours per day on my feet. Crocs are the only shoe that I can wear for that long without having pain in my feet and legs after that long on my feet. I switched to them recently after only wearing Nikes for years.

I also wore them to WDW last week in TS Fay and didn't slip, but the 2 pair I took were fairly new with good tread left.

It's not about being thin or even being a woman, you brought that up. I if you like them, great, more power too you. If you need them, I wouldnt say anything negative about them. I dont know if either of apply to you, for all I know your a 135 lb 17 year old standing up against those that dont like Crocs.

Why are you so offensive about me not liking the color of Crocs you wear? I think of them as working shoes. I dont consider them shoes that you go out and about it. I dont believe it is any of your business? End of story.

I hate these

Thank you for answering, I was wondering why nurses used them. This is the 6th time I've read that tonight. (not just on the DIS) That really is crazy that you have to work for such long hours. I totally understand why you need them.

I would also like to thank you for truely kind post on the subject. In most I got :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :scared1: or sarcastic comments avoiding the point. Thank you for answering me without the sarcasm.

I'm glad you posted this. I did just buy my son a new pair this past week because he HAS worn them out!! Thanks for the reminder--its a good one!!

ITA! Thanks for the reminder. I was planning on trying to deal with the ones I have until the end of the season and get a new pair next year, but I realize that I've already slipped a number of times and wasn't considering that I might fall down at WDW!

I've already bought replacements for my Crocs Athens :)

We have many Crocs in our household for the 4 of us and they are slippery and not just in wet weather. We don't wear worn Crocs at all (we throw them out as we don't have the Crocs recycle program near us) and we find that they can be slippery on dry or wet pavement due to the nature of the material. They are soft soled, and soft soled shoes catch - I constantly catch my toes, as does my daughter. They are very comfortable which is why we wear them, but we don't allow our kids to wear them for playtime, riding bikes, on playgym or to school. I find they are most slippery and toe catchy at my school (I'm a teacher), mall and hospital - places with shiny floors.

This is a good warning, but for us, we find that Crocs are a bit slippery in any kind of conditions, even brand new Crocs, so we are very selective about what places we wear our Crocs.

Happy Croc wearing to all, Tiger :)

The possiblity of picking out tourists because they are wearing crocs would be news to the rest of my fellow Floridians. ;)
I've been wearing crocs since before they were popular, own them in many colors, don't have weight or foot problems, and haven't been 17 in 33 years (do the math:) ). I like them because they are comfortable to me, and I'm way past caring what my feet look like to a bunch of sweaty people.
That said, another don't-wear-your-worn-out-crocs place would be on the flagstone near the Haunted Mansion after it has rained. It wasn't my crocs' fault--it was mine! They tried to tell me they were worn out before we left the house, but I didn't listen. ;)

Like flip-flops, crocs are just not for walking all day. You should wear something that wont slip on wet pavement or come off easily (flip-flops). Wearing crocs around the house, for doing yard work, walking the dog, ect is fine. I would not use them to walk the parks though.

Also it is best not to make yourself stand out as a tourist. Orlando's crime rates are high and wearing crocs and fannypacks send off a red flag.

I have to disagree about crocs making you look like a tourist. People EVERYWHERE wear those thing ALL THE TIME. Being in the parks makes you look like a tourist. A Manchester United jersey makes you look like a tourist, a Jersey accent makes you sound like a tourist.. but CROCS? Naaa :goodvibes :goodvibes

And we like to match them to our scrubs.

Me! I wear a size 5/6 jeans and a small top. No foot problems, over 40 years old, not diabetic, no health problems, nothing wrong with me. I just think the certain crocs are cute and wild looking. I have a pair of croc flip flops in brown/cotton candy and a pair babydolls in a swirly pink and white design. I don't care a rats behind who dislikes them or who I offend. Don't look at them. I like them!

My kids love their crocs, the mary jane style.....and they definitely aren't overweight (more like under)....no feet problems...no disease. It was time to replace their crocs and I told them we'd try on some regular dress shoes and tennies if they wanted....they tried on a dozen pairs in several stores and never found any that they wanted, so we ordered the same crocs, but in two colors this time, lol.

I gotta say that I don't get why some people object to them so strongly....I mean, hey, you don't like em, fine don't wear em. But why do you care so much about what the rest of us enjoy wearing? Seems odd to me.

For those that defend them so strongly, and I guess maybe I'm one of those since I'm posting here.....does it really matter that they hate your shoes? Crocs are comfortable to me...just like blue jeans are, so I wear them exclusively. Ugly, yeah, but so what. Of course, I'm the type that could care less what someone thinks of me....I don't dress up for anything anymore...blue jeans and a top......I joke that if it's a really nice top that means I'm dressed up. Wear that to church, parties, and will be wearing it at the parks and any and all restaurants we go to in WDW. Don't like it, don't look, :rotfl2: I mean really, if what a stranger is wearing is that important to you to object so strongly....look deep my dear, look deep.

they're recyclable. that doesn't mean that everyone who wears them will recycle them, but the option is there. we'll be dropping off a few worn out pairs soon.

I have nothing of value to add to the Croc debate. I don't wear them, nor do I intend to anytime soon.

However, I was THRILLED to find out that LA ranks lower than the national average in

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Los Angeles. . . . . National
Forcible Rape: . . . . . . . . . 27.3 . . . . . . . . 32.2
Burglary: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 524.8 . . . . . . . 813.2

and
Larceny Theft:. . . . . . . . . 1539.2 . . . . . . 2601.7

w00t!

Carry on.

Wow, that's so cool. I'm in the sticks of Ocala, FL and they have recycle centers in Gainesville. I'll keep that in mind when it's time to recycle my six pair - thankfully, none in any GARISH colors :snooty: :rotfl:

The OP's caution is good - let my 1st pair get too worn down and did a slip-and-slide shin-bang with my shopping cart during a rainstorm while walking on a painted crosswalk.

BTW...as to the statistics of crime toward tourists in Orlando...isn't WDW located in Lake Buena Vista, FL? As a FL resident Croc lover, I can visit WDW without entering the boundaries of Orlando, so I guess I'm safe. Just have to pick up a fanny pack that shouts "ORLANDO RESIDENT - NOT A TOURIST". ;)

I have heard that someone put bathtub decels on the sole of their worn out crocs to stop them from slipping. Has anyone tried this? Will it work? I just wear my older crocs inside for slippers.
