Crocs and Foot Problems

I probably would if I wore them for ANY length of time. I have high arches. These things do not properly support my feet.

I wear Ecco sandels a lot and they are great.

My running shoes were fitted for me at a local running store and I have never had any problem there.

(NOTE: No blisters with Ecco or my Brooks running shoes. Several hot spots the one time I tried to wear Crocs in Disney. Now I just wear them to the pool!)

lil F.Y.I. I work for Brooks in Canada and our Tech Running guru's will be glad to read this post, lol!!

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but those Ecco sandals are an awful lot of money for some pretty unattractive shoes. So now that I have arthritis and *probably* PF (going to the doctor tomorrow), does that mean I'll never wear pretty shoes again? :sad1:

I agree with the other post on Brooks shoes. I have 5 pairs depending on what I am doing. Nice clean Brooks, horse Brooks, house Brooks, river Brooks, and exercise Brooks. Everyone always talk about their NB Tennis shoes but I love my Brooks!!!!! They are the best for PF and for people with flat or high arches and everyone in between. I dont work for Brooks but I should since I support them with several hundred dollars a year.

I did notice that when we walked the park the whole day and then came back to the room and I'd take my shoes off, my feet would hurt on the bottoms. But, that went away after getting home and not walking all day...etc. When I'm going to be on my feet (standing/cooking...etc) a lot I always wear my crocs and they don't hurt my feet at all. They are pretty ugly...but I just can't stop wearing them LOL

I have no problems when I wear them to stand for long periods of time but walking in them all day is another matter. I have skinny feet and extremely high arches and after a day of wearing them all day at WDW, my ankles had doubled in size and I hurt from my feet all the way up to my back. Not enough support for me.

My MD told me that Crocs are the best thing for my plantar faciatitis and me being on my feet 13 plus hours a day at work. Crocs are wonderful but I also wear born shoes they are awesome. so I will need to get a new pair of Crocs for my May WDW trip.

Tennis Sport Sandels have help my feet a lot. The come in several different brands. I have easy spirit, skectcers, and earth shoe. I also have sport sandel from K-mart that was 12.00 dollars which is great in the summer. Check Marshells and T.J. Maxx they have tennis shoe sport sandels all the time for a good price.

The first time I wore my crocs for a full day of walking at Epcot, by the end of the day I could barely walk. I had massive pain shooting through the top of my foot. That was the one and only time I ever wore them.

I still get a pain like that every now and then, especially if I wear clog type shoes. Maybe I need to look into pf and see if that is part of the problem.

And Crocs look good?:rotfl2:

I have some Eccos that look like Tevas if that helps.

I have a nice pair of Ecco dress shoes.....

Tell them I love the running shirt with the little pocket in the front too. It's just the right size for a hotel room key!:rotfl2:

I think my Ecco Cosmos look much better than Crocs and they are SO comfy. I bought them on Ebay for 1/2 the original price.

My only complaint though is for some reason they can get stinky!!

I just wanted to add, for anyone who's going to be taking a Disney or other 'lot of walking' trip soon...and who has PF...to consider a cortisone shot or shots in both feet. I had pf for a year and was living with the pain...tried everything, anti-inflammatories, ice, rest, special arch supports, etc...and they didn't heal. Finally gave in an got the cortisone and they feel awesome! I still wear shoes and don't go barefoot and the other things that my doc says to do not to have a relapse...but I am feeling soooo much better!

I feel I have to address this - cortisone shots for pf are NOT something to be done lightly. Aside from stinging a little when you get them:scared1: , they can destroy the fat pad on the bottom of your foot. Then you're stuck with walking pretty much on bone and that is, speaking from personal experience, excruciatingly painful. Not to mention that the fat pad cannot be restored, so it's not something you'll ever get over. And how many shots you can get is an individual issue. It happens on the first one in some people. So please, make every effort to resolve the problem with other methods first. Don't see cortisone as a "quick fix".

To the person who is looking for good sandals, I wear Ecco's. I also have PF, and I wear Ecco Cosmo II's. I've worn them walking throughout Europe, Disney, etc, and they are my favorite shoes. I'm bummed in the winter when I can't wear them, even though I still wear Ecco's - boots, though! My sandals are the best. Hope this helps.

I'm "Eccoing" your comments. :rotfl: These sandals are almost as ugly as Crocs but they are the only shoe I can wear all day long and not get a PF flareup. Like you I wear them til the snow flies and as soon as the snow has left the ground in the spring. Try Shoebuy for the best prices.

Oh My Goodness, a little!! :scared1:

I went through the shots for planter fascia a couple years back. It was so memorable, when I developed a problem recently with my foot, I chose to not go back to the podiatrist for about 5 months. I walked around in constant pain that became more and more severe. It wasn't my planter fascia acting up, it was something different. I knew it was bad but I was so afraid of the cortisone shots that I chose to do nothing.

Until a couple weeks ago. My problem was pain underneath my 2nd & 3rd toes. I had worn the Croc Athen flip flop crocs for months before this happened and continued to wear them even with the pain because I didn't want to give them up. I tried wearing my gym shoes, which didn't help any either. Neither did the beach style or mammoth crocs.

Turns out I had an inflamed nerve - a neuroma and yep, the treatment was cortisone shots, on the top of the foot this type instead of in the bottom. It didn't hurt nearly as much as in the bottom of the foot and within hours I started feeling some relief. By the end of the first week, I was feeling so much better with a pain of 1 compared to the 7 when I first went in. The doctor did the second shot and then started the impression process of inserts for my shoes. I'll have the 3rd shot tomorrow night and then hopefully all of this will be a thing of the past.

As well as my days of wearing crocs. :sad1: As much as I loved them, I can't go through the pain of this again. I'm lucky that I responded to the injections as the next step would have been surgery.

I think what works great for some, may not work for others - we trust the professionals to guide us, right?

I also think we should mention that plenty of people have foot problems who dont wear crocs - regular flip flops with the thin bottoms (you know like the ones you get at old navy) cant be good. But hey, my mom was wearing Asics and Reeboks when she got her PF!! And they are supposedly good shoes. She had a very high arch though - I think thats maybe why crocs are better for some than others. Like for me, I hardly have an arch - so the crocs, especially the Off Roads and the Scutes give me a lot of support yet I dont blister, while sneakers (New Balance, Nike etc) give me a TON of blisters, even though they were fit for me at the store by the professionals.

We can take advice from each other, but until you try it yourself, you just wont know. But we all want "Happy Feet", right??:dancer:

Let me be the first to say, that I love my Crocs!! I have all the styles in several different colors:thumbsup2

But for months I have wanted to ask others, do they find that their feet are starting to change by wearing their Crocs so much.

Im to the point I cant wear anything else for any length of time. I can't even go barefoot, because my feet hurt if I am not wearing Crocs.

I cant help but think of Steve Martin in THE JERK where he invented that eyeglass handle and it made everyone cross eyed and they all sued him.

Are Crocs making our feet dependent on Crocs?:scared1:

My mom is a podiatrist and she says Crocs are not good for your feet, but are better than flip flops, which I used to live in. They make your feet pronate too much (turn into the body) and do not have enough arch support. I now wear the Croc Mary Janes, which are the only thing I can wear now from arthritis so bad in my feet, but I put a store-bought arch support liner inside and my mom says that makes them a LOT better. Just something to consider for those who want to keep wearing them....

I am a runner and have PF my right arch. I got a pair of crocs for Xmas and I wear them like slippers at home and my PF has almost gone away completely !! Love my crocs and am not going to over analyze this.Running season is coming fast and I feel great.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. Crocs are making people dependent on Crocs....it's World foot domination LOLOLOL

I have gotten to the point that I wear them when I'm standing in the kitchen for a long time...etc., my legs don't hurt nearly as bad when I wear them around the house (instead of going barefoot).

No. I'm not crazy about the Crocs either? I only wear them around the house to keep from going barefoot. Outdoors I rely on sneakers (Avia is my brand) or hobble with low heels for work. I'm not sure how much longer I can keep up wearing the heels, but I haven't found any "supportive" shoe that looks professional.
