Can the small (1 quart?) crock pot really be used for meals for one or two, or are they just for 'dips'?

Looking to save some money on food in a studio villa in January.

I think it would probably only work for dips and such. I think you would need at least a 3-4 qt. to get meals out of it.

It would really depend on how much you eat and what you plan on cooking. If it was pork for sandwiches it should be large enough. Other things you might need maybe a 2 Qt. for just 2 people.

I have a 2qt i got from Walgreens for $6 and it does plenty for 3 people. Can you do the crockpot thing and then store the leftovers in the frig? I usually do Chicken breast in mine and then use them in various other dishes like chicken salad, chicken tacos, chicken omletes.
If you want to use the 1 qt you could heat up soups, oatmeal.

DH uses one on travel, and he said it's really too small. We bought a 3 qrt one at Lowes. It's enough for me and DD with leftovers, or DH and DD without leftovers. The stoneware is removeable, so that's a big plus. For $10, it's working very well for us.

Wow, thanks for posting that!
Our mini crockpot gets a lot of wear and it was a hand-me-down to begin with. For $10 I'll just go get a new one. :thumbsup2

THANK YOU! For that price, I'll buy the 3 quart on my way from the airport, and discard it when I leave! You Dis-ers know EVERYTHING!

UPDATE

Well, THAT worked amazingly well!

Two people ate 1 cooking of Beef stew for two meals - beef, veggies from my veggie tray, 1 packet of beef stew mix, leftover coffee and water.

Two people ate 1 cooking of sauce for two meals of ravioli and 1 meal of sloppy joes. Sauce was 1 lb of burger and two hot sausages, browned and brought frozen, well wrapped in newspaper, 1 jar of spaghetti sauce, 1 can diced tomatos, chopped veggies from veggie tray. Part of sauce was removed after cooking, and a package of fresh raviolis from the deli case was put right in the sauce for the last half hour of cooking, sprinkled with mozzerella cheese. SERIOUSLY yummy.

One person had 3 meals of chicken and salsa.

I gave the crock pot and big plastic spoon to a local friend when I came home, but I would have had no problem leaving it for the housekeeper. The meals were way healthier and less expensive than even the best counter service.

Sounds like you need an "Owners Locker". Then you could store the crockpot and any spices/ utensils, or any other 'must haves' for your Disney vacations, and you wouldn't have to shlep it or buy it each time. :) I love my owners locker - never even thought of putting a crock pot in there - I think I'll look into a small crock pot just for that! Thanks for the idea! :goodvibes
