Anybody out there do alot of crock pot cooking? I am just getting into it and was told that I could purchase a full size turkey, but have the meat cutters cut it in half.

Once it is cut in half I would be able to cook it using my crock pot. My question basically is:

If you have done this....what do you do? Just put a little water and let it go for a period of time, or is there prep work that is required.

Any assistance would be great.

thanks,

try asking this on the scrapbooking & restaurants board, there are many crock pot fans on there - and I believe there has been some discussion of cooking turkeys.

(I'm afraid I just stick to the scrapbooking posts myself)

There are dozens of crockpot recipe sites online, do a google search. My favorite thing to cook in the pot is "pot roast" . I just throw the cut of beef in the pot with a can of beef broth, set it on low, and leave it for about eight hours. During the last two hours, you can throw some veggies and potatoes in if you wish. I normally just mash up some spuds and make gravy with the drippings. It's my DS favorite entree. The house ends up smelling delicious and it's sooooo easy.

Steph.......thank you so much.....that sounds so easy.

I'd assume that a pork roast can be done the same way ?

I just received a crock pot, so I just want to have some fun
with it.

Thanks,

Rick, we use our slow cooker all the time. We just throw in whatever we've got(poultry or meat) , cover it with water and a packet mix as appropriate (Colemans caserole mixes) ,add sliced/chopped veggies to taste and come home to summat like yer Mam used to make.

MMMmmmm lovely :D

Haven't done turkey but we do whole chickens with just enough water not to have it boil dry while we're out (3/4 pint's fine in ours for a 3lb chicken).

Remember to leave it on low if yer gonna be out a long time to stop it boilin dry.

Thanks everybody......

I also did not realize that we had a board called "scrapbooking & restaurants board".

That also had a whole bunch of recipes......

thanks again for everything
