Using the following criteria and your experience, what would you say is the best room/building location at POR?

1. Room view
2. Overall atmosphere of the resort grounds near the building
3. Proximity to main pool, and other pools
4. Proximity to bus stop
5. Proximity to food court and restaurant
6. Dated room versus refurbished (at this time)
7. Proximity to lounge (entertainment)
8. Distance from parking lot

etc.................................

Thanks!!!

Personally, I wouldn't put view as no. 1 at any of the mods since they all have outdoor corridors, no balconies, and your view will be of the walkway outside of your door. If it is still important, then you may want to request a corner room as they will have two windows as opposed to one.

The bayou atmosphere is a little more rustic, while the mansions are more stately, so I guess it's just what appeals to you the most. ABayou has several small buildings set up in clusters, while the mansions are very large single buildings with more formal gardens surrounding them.

The main pool is on an island in the center of the resort that is accessible by bridge. Since the mansion buildings are so large, your distance is mostly due to where you are in the building and how close the building is to one of the bridges. This also holds true for distance to bus stop, food, parking lot, etc. AB section is more dependent on the building. I know that bldg 14 is popular. I think 27 and 18 are also pretty close. Parking is easy for all, since everything is spread out and parking is located at each building. There are quiet pools near all of the buildings.

To me, at this time, the biggest factor would be a refurbed room vs. a non-refurbed, as I think there is a big difference between them after recently staying in both. Second priority would be location. Because of this, I would recommend Magnolia Terrace for location to main pool, main buildings, and the bus stop - and wouldn't pay extra for a preferred view.

If you've never been there, it might be helpful to see a resort map

Let me know if you have other questions on POR - it's a great resort.

Building 27 was great for us this summer.

It is close to the pool, food court and the main building. It is surrounded by other buildings and has a side facing the water so there wouldn't be any parking lot views. We had a first floor corner room and it was nice to have 2 windows. One looked out onto a walking path and the other into a grassy area. It was very nice. This is a non-smoking building in the AB area. I haven't seen refurbished vs not refurbished so I can't comment on that.

In '99 we stayed in bldg. 35 in AB. It had a nice quiet pool right there, the bus stop was about a 3 minute walk away and the parking lot was one bldg. over. I loved the quietness of it and the walk to the main pool (about 4 minutes) or the Food Court (5 mins) was so peaceful and relaxing.

Then we stayed in bldg. 85..Magnolia Terrace. It also had a nice quiet pool and the laundry area was right at the pool!! Very stately, formal type bldg. Both times we requested a water view and in AB we got a view of the quiet pool and at MB it was a 'peek' at the river!!! I wouldn't pay the extra again.
The walk to the main pool from MB was about 2 minutes, the food court about 3 minutes. We always used the main bus stop by the food court but there is a bus stop at the rear of the bldg past the parking lot.

If I were to stay there again, I think I would stay in AB but either one is nice. Just different.

Is Magnolia Terrace recently refurbished and is it non-smoking? Do you happen to know the building number, please?

Thanks!

It is bldg. 85, just checked on my map from our trip. Our rooms were both non-smoking. I think the whole bldg is non-smoking, but could be wrong. And I think this bldg was one of the ones that was refurbished. Anyone know for sure??

I think they are completely finished refurbishing the mansion rooms, and they are still working on the AB rooms. Anyone know more? :D

As of last week when we were there, CM's told me all mansion rooms were finished, but some were still in the process of getting the fridges. They were working on gutting some AB rooms when I was taking a stroll around the resort. It seems like 2 of the buildings were being worked on, but I can't be for sure. One of them was right on the walkway near the river, I'm thinking bldg 18.

I think only 1 mansion bldg has any smoking rooms. It's either Acadian House or Oak Manor. All other rooms are non-smoking.
