Any ideas? DD11 washed her knapsack - pen exploded and dryer covered with blue ink.

I tried rubbing alcohol (helped with the bigger blots) and Goo Gone.

Then I washed out the inside with warm soapy water to remove the goo gone residue.

Still a lot of spots. If they did not come off with the above efforts, do you think I am safe to use the dryer? Planning to do a few loads of towels first I guess.

Help please, with any ideas.

This happened to me a month ago. We still have ink spots all over our dryer, but nothing has rubbed off onto the clothes.

Use alcohol! That is what works in the hair spray!

Alcohol and rewash in cold water - no heat!

My DD got red ink on a pink hoodie and I got it out.

Good Luck!!

:tink:

Been there. Done that..... :sad2:

Don't worry too much about the ink that is stuck in the dryer. It will wear off over time without leaving any noticable residue on your clothes. I know it looks horrible now but after several months you won't even know it happened.

Now the clothes are a different story. I had clothing from the pen incident as well as a crayon incident that were ruined. Some clothes will repel the stains and you can get the ink out but some fabrics are just impossible. You never know until you have tried and tried and tried until you pull your hair out and toss the clothes into the rags pile.

Good luck ;)

All that was in the wash load with the knapsack were towels, and I am not too worried about them.

I was more concerned about the rest of the clothes I have to wash today, ie, work clothes for DH and I. Would hate to ruin those.

thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't worry. This happened to us about two months ago, we cleaned as much as we could with the rubbing alchohol. I also tried nail polish remover in the dryer. Both worked. Anyways, did laundry next day and nothing ever. I did run a load of towels through just to make sure. I dry everything on high heat. Not a mark anywhere since.

Sigh...same here...been there done that...

What hasn't come off the dryer drum, probably won't...one last thing you could try is fingernail polish remover with acetone. Just use it on a paper towel to see if it budges what's left...if not I'd dry a load of jeans on cotton/hot...or a load of dark towels on cotton/hot. If nothing seems to come off on them, I'd put a load of "don't care much about them" whites (old tees, old sheets, old towels...socks) on COTTON/HOT until COMPLETELY dry (over-dried even).

If nothing comes off on these, you are safe...and everytime you look at your ink-stained dryer, smile and know you belong to a special society of wonderful, resourceful mothers who will be reminding their daughters someday NOT to groan too loudly when their daughter does this to their brand new dryer. (Lol, mine was a brand new dryer...sigh. I lived with those spots a looong time, but the family story...priceless)

You could toss a load of rags into the washer and dryer (that don't have ink on them) just to make sure the remainder of the ink doesn't come off on them before you wash your good clothes, just to be on the safe side.

Nail Polish Remover!!! 6 days before my wedding I left a pen in something. Brand new dryer, sat almost inside of it with a rag and nail polish remover. If you can stand the smell of the remover and not pass out, it should work. Good luck.

This happened to me just last week. I ran the dryer to keep it hot then scrubbed inside with cleanser then rinsed it well with a wet towell then popped a damp towell in there & let it run for a while to make sure the cleanser didn't leave a residue. This worked great.

Same thing happened here about a month ago.. Still ink in the dryer and not a speck of it has come off on any other clothing (and at least 2 loads of laundry are done here on a daily basis).. I wouldn't worry about it..

What about Mr. Clean Eraser? I live buy that. It got out red dye from a "wood" tv tray. Nothing else worked and I thought it was on there forever.

Now if only they would come up with an eraser for carpet and upolstry.

A friend had this happen not long ago. She used OXYCLEAN and it ALL came out like it never happened! Good luck!
