CRISIS...DCL freezes reservations

The first DVC Member Cruise, which was in 2003, sold out the entire ship in one day.

The one for this year, Sep. 4-8, sold out in 6 hours.

DCL was very accomidating in rebooking anyone affected by these cruises.

They need to hurry up and stop taking soooo long to tell us what's going on. The suspence is worse than the knowing. I've been trying to get this cruise together for 2 years now. Trying to find the right date so my whole family could go. It will take a while to get another date together.

DVC is the Disney Vacation Club. It is a timeshare of sorts for Disney Resorts. You can check out the DVC board here on the DIS also.

So, has anyone heard anything. We were going to skip cruising next year, but we can't wait to see Castaway Cay? We're leaning towards September 3, but I'm partial to September 10 if it opens up. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jennifer

I have no problem with DVC or large groups booking, but why can this not be done earlier so that early planners like myself are not put out.

For instance, the 2007 dates are not out. Why can't DCL pick a time before the dates come out and say, this is the DVC trip. The solution is sooooooo simple.

For "important" groups who want an entire trip, they need to get in touch with DCL and set up something ahead of time as well. I think that if they call to set something up and there are already ressies done, they should only be able to get the rooms available.

I wonder what the time frame for this is? Will they only do this a certain time out?

The reason I ask is air flights. What if I book my flight 330 days out and then they turn around and tell me at day 300 that I have to change my cruise date? We buy the cheapest flight without refunds or switches. Will DCL pay for this?

The idea of a whole boat charter is that the cruise experience can change.

A chartered cruise can and does make changes for the group chartering the ship. DCL doesn't do a lot of whole boat charters but other cruiselines do. This can mean entertainment changes, menu changes, activity changes etc. You could find yourself onboard a special interest cruise that you have no interest in.

DCL and other cruiselines typically do compensate for extra charges you incur when you have to change travel arangements.

As of today (only, Disney & DCL can change anything at anytime!!!). We spoke to Megan in reservations that said that she showed that DCL has for now just stopped selling the rest of the inventory on those dates but have not given the reservationist any specific reasons or when they will reopen the dates. She even reconfirmed with her supervisor.

So we can speculate, but for now there is nothing in cement yet.......

You can always call direct to DCL 800-511-1333 and try to get to customer
service or the best way is to email the guest relations department at DCL
and see if you can get an answer of some sort.

Hopefully they will reopen the dates soon and release the information ""IF""
there is some sort of change going to happen far enough in advance for
guests to make new plans, if needed..... The sooner the better................

But the one thing to date that is in every brochure almost, is that a cruise line can change anything at anytime............................I have always felt that ""IF"" they are going to do this and guests are already booked then
let those guests still get to go and then close the rest off for future bookings on that specific date. Especially if it is a charter. "BUT" usually
if it is a charter it would not be for so many 4 day cruises closed for the
entire month???? So there has to be some other inventory issue or something else that we just have not heard about yet. The dry docks are
usually in October and pre set, unless there was some sort of schedule change???

I guess we will know soon enough, just hang in there..................

Maybe they are adding a re-trackable roof, so when they go to Alaska in 2008 they will be all set..... :rolleyes1

Yeah, that's it! That way you will be able to sit on deck 9 and watch a movie even if it is raining out. :)

I just got off the phone with DCL and they said the Sept. cruises have been frozen because they're in the middle of making a deal with a certain company who plans on reserving the entire ship. However, this company has not done a very good job of getting back to DCL with an answer so next Week on 07/22 the cruise will be re released for the general population to begin booking! :::happy dance:::

Yay!

THE REAL ANSWERS ARE OUT :)
