You know, I feel bad for hating Seaver, because I know it's not the actress's fault that AJ was fired, but I can't help it. There are two things that really bug me about her coming onto the show. The first has to do with CBS. They fired AJ because of budget cuts, but then all of a sudden they have enough money to pay a new actress? I'm sure she's not making as much as AJ did, but still. The second issue I have is how fast the team got adjusted to her. When Rossi came on it took several episodes for the team to get used to him and there were a lot of issues. Seaver had problems the first episode she was in, and then all of a sudden they're all used to her being there. But it's strange because they really haven't done much development with her and she barely interacts with the team. It's weird She really just seems to be there to fill space, not to actually be a well developed character. I couldn't help but laugh tonight when she said "Is that blood?!" I'm like "Of course it's blood! You work for the FBI!"

What gets me is how the show made a big BIG deal with both Elle & Prentiss joining the BAU, and how not just under-qualified nobodies can get into one of the most elite units of the FBI. How everypolice officer & FBI agent wants in and those gals had to prove they were worthy to join the BAU.

Plus, this team is Hotch's team - being the Unit Chief of the whole BAU, you'd think there would be more pressure to be one of the best of the best to get in his team.

But, no. Prentiss wants to babysit a cadet, so they let Seaver in. Did anyone else notice, though, that when they split up into twos to work the case, Seaver was told to go with Rossi, not Prentiss. While Rossi is the better agent to train from, Prentiss was the one who said she'd be the one to train Seaver. So much for that. What's going to happen if Prentiss leaves the show?

I think they are just keeping her around in the background right how, hoping she will be like bland wallpaper, we'll forget FIVE years of J.J., and Seaver will just grow on us over time.


I found this article written on the Criminal Minds from TV Guide (Canada.) This article does NOT bode well. There is definite dissension among the original cast members toward the spin-off.

Shemar Moore wants ‘Criminal’ spinoff to fail

In less than a month’s time, Criminal Minds will shift from being a singular crime drama to a franchise brand. Feb. 16 marks the debut of its spinoff, Suspect Behavior, and to say the original cast is less than thrilled is an understatement. In fact, they offered up some rather frank opinions on the subject to TV Guide Canada.

“I’m flattered that we’ve done such a good job that they would like to do another show, but there’s another part of me that wants it to fail,” states Shemar Moore on the show’s L.A. set. “CBS, as far as I know, has never had a failed spinoff. I’m not gonna lie, I hope this is their first. Nothing against those actors, but because if it fails [CBS will] realize that this **** ain’t easy.”

“We worked with a guest cast and they used our resources and our crew, and we worked really hard to create this thing for them (and) we kinda got shafted,” continues Paget Brewster. “And it was what we were afraid of. We were afraid that we would be cannibalised for the creation of this next show and unfortunately, that’s a little bit of what happened.”

On the flip side, Thomas Gibson notes the whole Criminal brand would look bad if any part of it didn’t succeed and Matthew Gray Gubler says he’s “very curious” to see the spinoff; however, he does point out he prefers fresh ideas to Hollywood remakes.

Regardless, Suspect Behavior was the source behind the changes to the original, which was confirmed by CBS president Nina Tassler at the recent TCAs. Though the cast appears to have welcomed new addition Rachel Nichols with open arms, Cook’s dismissal threw them for a loop and sadly, it looks like Brewster may soon be following in her footsteps. This season, SPOILER ALERT! Highlight to read: the actress says her character will face a growing problem that stems from her past with a European organization, which “may or may not lead to my demise.” End Spoiler.

Those who keep abreast of Criminal news know that Brewster’s Season 6 deal includes a pilot out, meaning she’s free to film another television show should she so choose to. While she says nothing has struck her fancy to date, it’s very possible the BAU will have another spot to fill come next fall — yet another upset to both cast members and fans alike.

“I don’t even want to cross that bridge. I really don’t,” says Gibson.

Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Suspect Behavior debuts post-Criminal on Feb. 16 at 10 p.m. ET.

To be honest, I didn't care for the episode that showcased the spinoff last season. I didn't like the actors much at all or the way they acted. Maybe I'll change my mind. I'll definately give them a chance but I don't care for the NCIS spinoff either.

wow, that tv guide article really lays it all out, lol. if prentiss leaves, that'll be the end of criminal minds, i'm afraid. i've never seen a show lose two main characters in one season and survive, not for very long, anyway. i really don't like agent seaver, i just don't. her character adds nothing to the show. and i don't care how pretty the wallpaper is, they can throw as much of it up as they want to, praying it'll stick. i still miss JJ.

CBS actually was very lukewarm on the spin-off pilot, too. Suspect Behavior, actually had to re-tool. They changed executive producers, took the one from of our beloved CM to also exec produce that show, too. (I'll look for the article about that later & post it.)

I think that's one of the reasons the quality of decision-making and writing of this show has gone down. The producers panicked about this show and felt they needed to change it up, too.

The show is a franchise now and they each have their own budgets. But, where are they getting the money to pay Academy Award winner, Forest Whitaker? I'm sure he has quite an asking price. Yet, he's still untested in Suspect Behavior and the pilot wasn't that well received. Are they funneling money from CM, promising the money will be put back once Suspect Behavior, is up & running?

Did anyone else, besides Tink & me see the commercial for the spin-off? They ONLY mentioned Whitaker, and not the team. The BAU is made up of teams. Rossi & Hotch made a big point about that at the end of Rossi's first episode. That Rossi started the BAU when there was only a few of them, driving around on their own. No Team. But the spin-off commercial is only about Whitaker? They are really banking on him then.

Also, two (new) episodes ago, Thomas Gibson wasn't on the show at all. (Yeah, I notice things like that when it has to do with Hotch. ) Not even one tiny scene where he's talking to Rossi on the phone saying he has to stay with little Jack for a bit. Since the stars get paid per episode, and I've never heard of a major star voluntarily giving up air time - let alone a whole episode, (Gibson is the second lead,) I think he also, like Paget Brewster, was forced to give up a number of episode(s) he would be in this season. Only, he's staying on the down low about it. I can't imagine that's something someone would want to advertise. "No, I didn't get a pay raise after 5 seasons. Instead, they are giving the same or less money, in exchange for less episodes so I can spend more time with my family."

Paget & AJ Cook, both have openly said the show changes were due to money. If Thomas Gibson was also forced to give up episodes too, I sincerely HOPE it isn't just to pay Forest Whitaker.

Honestly, I may not even watch the spin-off at this point. I'm with Shemar, I want it to fail. I'm so mad about what it's doing to our show. I have no idea why every show needs to have a spin-off. Three CSI's, three(?) Law and Orders, etc. I love NCIS, but I don't really care for the spin-off. CBS and NBC put way too much money into spin-offs. I just checked viewers and CM dropped over 1 million between the previous episode and the most recent one

Did anyone here watch Shark when it was on? I absolutely loved that show and it only lasted two seasons, and the second one was short because of the writer's strike. James Woods was amazing. CBS killed that show when they moved its time slot three times in the same season and put it after football on Sundays. By the time the games were over, the show got pushed back so late that no one watched it. I've gotten so annoyed with CBS recently. They destroy their best shows.

Hopefully CM gets through this season, the spin-off gets cancelled, Seaver leaves(I don't care how, I just want her gone )and maybe AJ and Paget come back next year(I can dream right?) At least they didn't kill off JJ, so that's still a possibility.

The descriptions for the next three episodes seem to be foreshadowing Prentiss' departure...
"Two young lovers embark on a murder spree that sends the BAU team to investigate, and stop them before they kill again. Also, Prentiss receives news from her previous boss at Interpol."
"The BAU is summoned to Los Angeles to investigate a series of unusual murders, and Prentiss sheds some light on her past before she joined the BAU."
"After a mysterious disappearance occurs in upstate New York, Prentiss receives some disturbing news about one of her former colleagues."
